Newbie: One location for SQL-methods site-wide

I got a folder called SQL in the root-folder containing SQL-methods I use site-wide. I got a DTML-method, taking two parameters, also in the root-folder I call site-wide using SQL-methods in the mentioned folder. When I try to use the DTML-method in a DTML-document in a sub-folder I get an error, saying "global name 'SQL' is not defined". The sub-folder contain a SQL-folder also, with SQL-methods used in that part of the site. I call my DTML-method like so in a DTML-document in a subfolder : <dtml-var expr="dmViewComments(com_object=1, com_object_id=coi)"> The DTML-method dmViewComments in the root-folder look something like this : <dtml-call "SQL.sqlmViewComments(REQUEST)">  I need a way to store DTML- and SQL-methods in the root-folder and call them site-wide. Can I somehow make a special folder that makes it contents available site-wide, while being defined one place for easy maintenance? Best regards, Thomas

Bizarre, Frustrating Browser-Specific Behavior?

I have been using Zope part-time now for almost a year. I've built some simple stuff and some moderately complex stuff. Over that time, I've kept notes about things I didn't understand, deleting those notes as I've learned more (mostly from this list). But now I'm just at a point where I have to make a decision whether to make a *big* commitment to Zope over the next year or so on behalf of my two biggest clients and I'm experiencing some weirdness that gives me a bit of pause. I'm really looking here for an indication whether these are things others have encountered as well or whether there might be something I'm either doing wrong or not understanding. 1. Working in IE5 on Macintosh OS X, I often encounter what look for all the world like corrupted or scrambled files. Python Script objects appear particularly vulnerable, but I've seen this with DTML docs and methods as well. The symptom is that some number of letters at the beginning of the file appear to be replaced by stray and often unprintable characters. When this happens, the rest of the file becomes scrambled and sometimes unreadable, always cut off before it ends. I can switch to Windows at that point, e.g., and open the same file, and all looks normal. 2. Working in Netscape 6 and/or Mozilla 1.0 on Win2K, I had the same thing happen twice tonight. I edit a PythonScript object, Save Changes, get an error, click the "Back" button, and I'm on the page where that script is supposed to exist but the editing area is completely blank. Browser refresh does nothing. I lose the work. 3. Only annoying, but in IE5 on Win2K, the object editing area in the ZMI is too wide for the space and cannot be adjusted using the "Narrower" button to come within range. Result: a significant amount of horizontal scrolling. I'm running Zope 2.3.3 against Python 1.5 on my ISP-hosted Zope sites. I would upgrade to 2.5 (which is available on my ISP) now that I'm no longer using Squishdot for discussions, but I've not read anything here that indicates such a change would have any impact on these issues. So is *anyone* else running into this kind of bizarre behavior? I have lost substantial productive time both tracking and dealing with these and other issues over the past few months. Zope is still faster and better than anything else I've used but I am loath to risk my clients' time and money on it if the substrate is still as quirky as my experience would *seem* to indicate it may be. I am using your CatalogQuery Product and I have a dubt to how make a expression to pass to the method query. If I write aexpression mixing "and , or " operator does it works? What I want: ------------ - I'm trying to make my links as flexible as possible. - I'd like to have all links together in one folder. - I'd like to have all texts together in one folder. Reasons: -------- - Later I want to impliment multi-languages (for everything, so for links too). - I don't want to change every link implemented in my pages when some mailto- or http-address changes. - I'm lazy. I just want to make it once and let others maintain the textfiles if something changes afterwards. Hallo, It's never happened while doing anything via ZMI, but I had similar problem when I tried to save Polish characters in the Python product - due to Python GUI restrictions. Each time I lost all the content. As I said - PythonProduct worked fine all the time, but it's just an idea. Pawel

Add an object and subobjects in a single pass?

Hello, I'm working with the Kube Product, and I have a situation where I would like to add a Kube (for those who are not familiar with it, it is basically a folder) and then add another Kube within the first -- but do it during a single pass. Currently, I have the following: (foo and bar are specializations of Kube -- they have the same interface, tho) id1, id2 = 'f', 'b' f = foo() f.id = id1 f.title = 'Foo Object' self._setObject(id1, f) f = self._getOb(id1) b = bar() b.id = id2 b.title = 'Bar Object' self._setObject(id2, b) b = self._getOb(id2) From here I have tried f.bar = b, f._setObject('bar', b) Both of these create a bar object that is a subobject of foo. I can go to http://host/foo/bar and I see bar. However, when I look at foo, I can't see bar as a subobject (like a folder would normally show a subobject.) Also, I add properties to bar, but I can't seem to get at them anywhere through the management interface. Any help? Thanks, VL

Multi-Developer Zope Setup

Hi. We just decided to use Zope/CMF for a large non-profit site that the agency I work for is building (wahoo!). I am trying to set things up correctly off the bat, and am struggling to understand how to incorporate version control with the Zope server. I have (re)read the chapter in "Web Application Development and Content Management" and am mostly sold on the idea of using ZCVSFolders (if its stable), but I am unclear on how to set them up (the docs here are minimal http://www.zope.org/Members/sspickle/ZCVSMixin/) Correct me if I'm wrong - I suppose the way I should do this is to add the VHM to Zope, creating a container folder underneath the Root Folder, creating folders for each of our developers below the this project folder container, and then adding the CVSFolder to each of their respective folders. (Next step will be to front Zope w/ apache to send everyone straight to their own "sandbox"). I downloaded ZCVSFolder 0.2.5 and copied it into the products directory, checked out my zopeObjects module in $ZOPE_HOME but it does not appear in the add product dropdown (I made sure to startup Zope as nobody, and nobody is in the cvs group). I Any suggestions? Am I on the right track? Thanks, Jonah

No offence, but maybe you misunderstood me or maybe I wasn't clear enough. So, let me retry to explain: I want to center the pages I've made in a similar way you have when you'd use frames, like: *,800,* (or even like: 10%,80%,10%). In other words: I want my page to be displayed in a fixed width in the middle of the browser. Resulting in a variable width for the left and right side. As far as I know the <center>-tags are not capable of doing something like this. Therefore I asked the list if there is something in DTML that can take care of this. If I HAVE TO use frames: so be it, but... I'd rather not. That's all, folks! ExternalEditor and IDLE on windows

Has anybody managed to use IDLE as editor with ExternalEditor? I tried setting: editor = C:\Python21\pythonw.exe "C:\Python21\Tools\idle\idle.pyw" But on Python Scripts I get syntax error in the shell because the Script contains a "return" but not a "def".
