how to create brain instance in python???
by mlilly＠tinorb.com 15 Jun '02

15 Jun '02

Greetings, I have need to create a brain instance in a python script. How do i do this? The reason is, that i want to return to a page template from a python script a brain instance that is either the result of a catalog query, or an empty/default instance. Then, the template can fill a form field with either the retrieved values or defaults. The Catalog currently contains only objects of a single Meta Type. get_transaction() ?
by Richard Wesley 15 Jun '02

15 Jun '02

I am trying to call get_transaction() from a Python script in Zope 2.5.0 but I just get the error that global name 'get_transaction' is not defined. All the docs I can see say that it is built in, so how do I convince my script to call it? The > report class can then be mixed with a presentation class. Or just used > in a Python product, depending on what you want/need. Maybe, maybe not. It's really not clear. We need to use the DCOracle2 Product for authentication (the Zope DA/authentication story is a whole 'nother issue), so we really want to use ZSQL methods. Even if I can use the DCO2 product from Python without ZSQL method objects (which I probably can, I'd just have to figure it out), there is the issue of customization of report data. Splitting presentation and content will make it easy to provide new faces over the same data, but I also need to specialize data. What would be ideal, in pythony/zopey terms: class GenericData: def __init__(self,): def table1(): def table2(): def support_query1(): ..... class WhizzoCorpData(GenericData): def __init__(self, ): pass def table1a(): # Whizzo specific ..... class GenericPresenter: def __init__(self, GenericData datasource): self.datasource = datasource def index_html(): # generic report navigation screen def report1(): # display table1 ..... class WhizzoPresentor(GenericPresenter): def __init__(WhizzoData datasource): GenericPresenter.__init__(self, datasource) # modify something to register report1a with index_html def report1a(): # present Whizzo specific report Then, in some zope folder: self.add_instance(WhizzoPresenter(WhizzoData()) Wonderful and all python but not exactly easy future customization. It will all fall back into my lap, since it's all python (and therefore "real" code requiring a "real" engineer to modify it). Each new customer will require subclasses of the presenter and data classes. Even more confusing to me is what kind of python would this be? A product? 4 products? External methods?

simple var
by Paz 14 Jun '02

I'm sorry to have to post this request, but I'm lost behind python syntax again. This works: <dtml-with "folder1.folder2"><dtml-var index_html></dtml-with> This doesn't: <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('sName', 'folder1.folder2')"> <dtml-with "_[sName]"><dtml-var index_html></dtml-with> Nor does: <dtml-with "_.getitem(sName)"><dtml-var index_html></dtml-with> What am I missing? Thanks, Paz

CoreSessionTracking problem with <dtml-return>
by Aseem Mohanty 14 Jun '02

14 Jun '02

Hi all, I have the following peice of DTML code : <dtml-let error_list="forms.validate_core_user_form"> <dtml-if "error_list != []"> <dtml-let data="session_data_mgr.getSessionData()"> <dtml-call "data.set('error_list',error_list)"> <dtml-var error_list> </dtml-let> </dtml-if> </dtml-let> for which I get the following error: Error Type: InvalidObjectReference Error Value: Attempt to store an object from a foreign database connection The function "validate_core_user_form" basically sets up a list: <dtml-let error_list="[]"> and populates it. and the return it with : <dtml-return error_list> I had to that because it seems session variables don't survive folder jumps (set in one / access in another and poof they disappear). Maybe a new session object created for a folder jump (I have to look into that) the <dtml-var error_list> faithfully prints out the right results. So what am I doing wrong here...??? Document Library & TextIndexNG... general search headaches.
by Matt Gregory 14 Jun '02

14 Jun '02

I'm having trouble with Searches. 1.) Will TextIndexNG work with DocumentLibrary? 2.) Why does DocumentLibrary always return results for searches in the genral search and the advanced search always returns nothing. 3.) Why are the same results always returned, reguardless of what I search for? 4.) How can I reindex the indexes? 5.) Why can't I add TextIndexNG indexes to ZCataloges since upgrading to TextIndexNG 1.0x (all the RCs and 1.1 are still broken). There is no errors in the logs and the product shows up in the product list, but I can't find the index type in catalogs...)

Stuffing file objects into my objects
by Damon Eckhoff 14 Jun '02

14 Jun '02

I have no concrete idea of what I'm doing, but I've managed to get pretty far... I have a product class that has an attribute that is an OFS.Image.File object. I have setter and getter methods called setFile() and getFile(), respectively. So far I can upload files and they get stored into my product, and I can even get the File objects out (via scripting). But what I'm not sure how to do is to access the file objects via a web path. Something to the effect of /stuff/product_instance/getFile. At this point /stuff/product_instance/getFile almost works. It works fine with images, text files, pdf on the Mac... But word documents don't seem to work, as if the content-type isn't being recognized by the browser on the download, i.e. Word docs are rendered as text files in the browser window. I have had this problem before, but my solution was to attach a file precondition that set some response headers: hdr_name = "content-disposition" hdr_value = 'attachment; filename="%s"' % filename context.REQUEST.RESPONSE.setHeader( hdr_name, hdr_value ) But now I have the File object embedded inside another object. How could I attach a precondition that would get called if the file is accessed via /stuff/product_instance/getFile? When I tried passing the name of an external script to the File constructor, but that doesn't seem to get called. Any ideas or help? Damon.

I tried to concat there but no luck. I can only see > the variables I passed. Functions are unable to change strings in the callers context. You need to return the concatenated value. And you must not use "dtml-call" in this case, as it discards the return value. Dieter

DTML ques
by Aseem Mohanty 14 Jun '02

14 Jun '02

Is there a DTML equivalent for this: Globals.MessageDialog(title ='Bad E-mail', message='The email is not in the correct form', action =REQUEST['URL1']+'/form', target ='') I basically have a form at the end of which there is a call to a validation script. If the validation fails I would like to present the form page again with some messages on top. I do the session storing the form vars stuff, but havent been able to figure out how to insert the error messages at the top of the page without storing all the stuff in the session var and all. Any ideas??
