Java Applet?? - File compression and upload

problem: Client side: 5 files should be found automatically, then be displayed in order to be accepted by the user, then they should be compressed to a gz-File and afterwards uploaded to a server. 1)Does it make sense to use a Java Applet? 2)Java Applets and DTML? 3)Could you describe me a way how to solve this problem? Well, if compared to PHP, you mean the ability to come up with solutions using Object-Oriented methodology, design patterns, and the like, then yes. If you mean you want to leverage existing Java class libraries and APIs and are comfortable with the benefits and limitations of something like JPE, then yes. If you want to go to sleep every evening with the knowledge that all your Java skills transfer quite well to Python, and that a Python solution will take much less effort and time, then yes. If you want to write a lot of Java code, then no. A brief closing thought: Java has nice frameworks, but is a crappy language. Zope has nice frameworks and a beautifully engineered language. Authorization by Hostname or Address

I have read and applied the Zope "How-To" concerning authorization by Hostname or Address at : http://www.zope.org/Members/muesli/AuthByAddress It works, but I would like to be able to open up access for a whole domain without having the user being requested to type in a login, even if there is no password control. Is there a way to create a kind "anonymous" user in a "User Folder" who would only have a domain restriction and no "login" atached to it? It seems that any user has of course to be created with an id and hence this id is being requested as the login. Pierre Godefroy

Thanks, but we do not want to use Apache as a front-end, at least for the time being. We are looking for a "purely" Zope solution. Joust to navigate Wiki ?

Hi, Has anybody tried to use Joust (http://www.ivanpeters.com/) to show the Wiki topic pages in a hierarchy ? I am aware of http://www.zope.org/Members/Ioan/WikiForum but it shows Wiki pages all at the same level in Joust, whereas I want to show the actual Wiki pages/nesting. Basically a global view of the wiki tree, just like the "contents" page in a ZWiki, like http://zwiki.org/FrontPage/map#FrontPage for example thanks, marcio

By creating the "uploads" folder myself, manually, ZWiki now puts all files in this "uploads" folder (a bit better, but still not ideal as conflicts may happen). So, it probably did not have permissions to "Add Folder" I guess. But it still does not create the [page-name]_files folder under "uploads", despite the fact that I said "Add Folder" is available to "Authenticated User". Not sure why it is still failing. Anybody ? I guess the ZWiki site could have a page explaining this setup in detail. thanks, marcio

While I'm no fan of DTML (except when it annoys ChrisW), I think everyone knows it's not going to be killed off any time soon. Gods, I'd hate to think how much stuff we have in DTML - some of it's still in  format. (there's no point going and changing stuff that works)...
