Xron Security help
by Peter Bengtsson 23 Apr '02

23 Apr '02

Dear all Xron masters, I have a Xron method that works fine as Manager. If I hit the Trigger id does what it is supposed to. But as cron script it doesn't work; probably because you need to Manager or something. If I visit the Xron not being logged in like this: "mozilla http://host:8050/gskolan/Style/2002/suckImage_xron/manage_triggerXronEvent" It asks for authentication but the method itself doesn't require it. I double checked that by dtml-commenting the whole script and replace it with "HELLO WORLD". Still asking for authentication. What security settings do I need to do? Zope 2.5.0 linux python 2.1 Xron 0.0.10 Cheers, Peter

Help with Page Counter (Python script), please
by Uwe Schuerkamp 23 Apr '02

23 Apr '02

Hi folks, please bear with me for now, I am an all-out Zope/Python newbie and only recently converted from Perl/CGI development ;-) I'm trying to implement a simple page request counter by checking for a property named "requestCount" in a DTML method, adding the property if not found, incrementing it otherwise and returning the new value. I'm using the following python script: from Products.PythonScripts.standard import html_quote request = container.REQUEST RESPONSE = request.RESPONSE o = container.index_html if (o.hasProperty("requestCount")): print "request count property found, incrementing" count = o.getProperty("requestCount") o.manage_changeProperties(requestCount=count+1) return o.getProperty("requestCount") else: print "request count property NOT found, incrementing" o.manage_addProperty("requestCount", 1, "int") return o.getProperty("requestCount") this script lives in the top level of my Zope installation. When I try to get a hit counter by including the script output as a DTML-var like this: <dtml-var incRequestCount> in any subfolder the property of the Zope root folder is incremented (where the Python script lives), but not the container of the current object / container / folder whatever. Say I have two index_html methods in subfolders, each using the <dtml-var incRequestcount> statement, there is only *one* counter associated with those methods instead of two which get incremted separately. Sorry for any confusion, I hope I have made myself clear! Cheers & thanks in advance for any help / slaps on the forehead, uwe -- Uwe Schuerkamp Tel: +49 (0)5241 / 80 10 66, FAX: - / 6 23 38 Uwe.Schuerkamp(a)nionex.net Nionex GmbH, IWN5 (http://www.nionex.de/) GnuPG KeyID: 5887047D Avenwedder Str. 55, 33311 Guetersloh GnuPG Fingerprint: 2E 13 20 22 9A 3F 63 7F 67 6F E9 B1 A8 36 A4 61

Problems with Zope and Apache
by J.C.Mcnulty＠open.ac.uk 23 Apr '02

I was wondering if someone could help me. I am running Zope 2.5.1b2 with CMF 1.1 (python 2.1). I want to upgrade to CMF 1.2 but when I do and try to publish an item I get the following error: Error Type: TypeError Error Value: hasReplies() takes exactly 2 arguments (1 given). Publishing a document works fine on CMF 1.1 but this error occurs under 1.2. I have got one step further to solving the problem. The error message does not appear if you publish through the management screen (Zserver) but does occur is you are running it through a browser (Apache). Has anyone else had this problem? Any help or guidance would be a great help. Thanks James

Re: [Zope-dev] Separate staging and development areas for a product
by A M Thomas 23 Apr '02

I mentioned this in a follow-up message I just posted to an earlier question of mine, but found this thread and wanted to mention: I'm an independent very small web developer, and my clients are small, too. I have in-house machines, but only one Zope web server (an iMeme account). It just isn't possible for me to have separate machines, or even an additional account. iMeme may let me set up a separate Zope instance, but it would be _very_ nice if I could work on a single Zope instance and have a development and production version of my product. I have machines at my home office that I can install Zope on, including one with Zope already installed, but I really need my development version accessible to the internet, too. And it would be nice to have three versions so I could have a separate testing version public, as well. What should someone like me do in order to develop a product that is also in use on my server? What do other independent developers do? Thanks, Am -- http://virtueofthesmall.com

Hello Tres, >> If you would, please try the attached patch and see if it helps. Thanks a lot for your help : i don't really understand how it work... but it works !! I'll put this bug into the tracker ASAP. But there's a another little problem : the "MetaDataTool.py" with your patch doesn't still works with the ZMI. >> Votre anglais est tres superieur de mon francais. :) Not so bad ! ;-) Thanks. Fred. Why ? The ZMI version is a class method, and hence operates as "trusted" code; it doesn't surface the bug you found. The 'getElementSpec' method returns the ElementSpec instance without wrapping it in itself, which means that your DTML method cannot do the security checks properly. path notation
by Dennis Allison 23 Apr '02

23 Apr '02

There ought to be an easier way .. Suppose I have a folder structure A-B-C-D | E-F and an object in D needs to reference an object in F, the reference is resolved by writing a set of nested dtml-with statements, first referencing B, then E, and finally F. B is found by acquisition, but traversion the path has to be explict. It's a pain to write and puts information about the site organization more deeply into the methods than I would like. I'm sure there's a better way to manage things, but I have not a clue. Can someone point it out? A related problem arises when some of the path is computed. For example C-D-E A-| C'-D'-E' is a fairly common structure in one of my sites. I compute the choice between C and C' and then try to construct a path, but it keeps giving me referece errors, I suppose because the thing I compute is a string and not the object (duh...). I suppose I need to use getattr() to find the associated object :-) -d
