Customizing administration pages in exUserFolder
by Per Hörnfeldt 22 Apr '02

22 Apr '02

Hi, we're building a product with user management and want to associate a number of properties and roles with the users. We would like to use exUserFolder but not use the management pages that comes with exUserFolder, but rather create our own pages that correspond to the layout for the rest of the product. Our pages shall not have any access to the Zope management interface. Has anyone an idea on how this is achieved in the best way? Opening MSWord Document via WebDAV from <a href="..."/>
by Thomas Guettler 22 Apr '02

22 Apr '02

Hi! Is there a way to open a MSWord document via webdav from a link? It is unfortunately too difficult for most people to download the document from zope to a local directory, change it, and upload it again. Since Zope supports WebDAV it should be possible to open it via webdav by following a link (<a href="magic"/>) But what does "magic" need to look like? If I use magic=="http://zope-host:8080/foo.doc" "WebFolder" don't show up at drive letters. At least I didn't get it working. Since I need it for an intranet application it would be possible "mount" the webdav from zope to e.g. "z:" on all clients. Then a link to file:///Z|... should work. I heard that only Windows-XP is able to map webdav to UNC-Names An other solution would be to run a samba-server on linux which mounts the webdav. Someone on this list has reported that he got this working. But I don't like this. Would be nice if the server could be Windows, too. And I don't know if authentication works this way. According to http://www.zope.org/Documentation/Articles/WebDAV you need to use commercial products to map a webdav server to a drive letter (Webdrive, Teamdrive costing 39$ per client). Has someone experience with these products? Are there free alternatives which map a WebDAV-Server to a drive letter? Opening the word document with the windows explorer and editing is no problem. Has some hints? thomas

Folders with the same name (newbie question)
by Marie ROBICHON 22 Apr '02

22 Apr '02

First of all, thanks for your patience for reading this long post.......I posted it a while ago but had no replies so am trying again...... Our development site has approx the following structure: index_html - About | Guided Tour | Machine - Jobs - Beamlines - Machine | Parameters etc Inside each folder is a contents_html document. The index_html is at the root and displays this content under a generic banner with drop down menus (Javascript) with links to the top level folders and their subfolders. Local navigation is generated via a treemenu in each top level folder with the name attribute as the id of the top level folder, and which generates absolute_urls. However we get the following error when clicking a link in the treemenu, to http://mysite/About/GuidedTour Error Type: KeyError Error Value: Parameters Traceback (innermost last): File /zope/Zope-2.5.0-solaris-2.6-sparc/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 150, in publish_module File /zope/Zope-2.5.0-solaris-2.6-sparc/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 114, in publish File /zope/Zope-2.5.0-solaris-2.6-sparc/lib/python/Zope/__init__.py, line 158, in zpublisher_exception_hook (Object: GuidedTour) File /zope/Zope-2.5.0-solaris-2.6-sparc/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 98, in publish File /zope/Zope-2.5.0-solaris-2.6-sparc/lib/python/ZPublisher/mapply.py, line 88, in mapply (Object: index_html) File /zope/Zope-2.5.0-solaris-2.6-sparc/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 39, in call_object (Object: index_html) File /zope/Zope-2.5.0-solaris-2.6-sparc/lib/python/OFS/DTMLMethod.py, line 127, in __call__ (Object: index_html) File /zope/Zope-2.5.0-solaris-2.6-sparc/lib/python/DocumentTemplate/DT_String.py, line 473, in __call__ (Object: index_html) File /zope/Zope-2.5.0-solaris-2.6-sparc/lib/python/OFS/DTMLMethod.py, line 120, in __call__ (Object: javascript) File /zope/Zope-2.5.0-solaris-2.6-sparc/lib/python/DocumentTemplate/DT_String.py, line 473, in __call__ (Object: javascript) File /zope/Zope-2.5.0-solaris-2.6-sparc/lib/python/DocumentTemplate/DT_With.py, line 76, in render (Object: Machine) File /zope/Zope-2.5.0-solaris-2.6-sparc/lib/python/DocumentTemplate/DT_With.py, line 60, in render (Object: Parameters) KeyError: (see above) I presume that Zope moves up to the root to pick up the index_html then moves back down until it finds the first "Machine" folder, which is not the one we want then raises an error. Does this mean that in Zope no two folders can have the same id? This would cause problems when our contributors edit their parts of our site. Is there a way around this other than naming the folders differently? TIA Marie Robichon Web Task Force European Synchrotron Radiation Facility Grenoble France

DCWorkflow -worklists, expressions, roles -- is this a bug?
by Heimo Laukkanen 22 Apr '02

22 Apr '02

Hi, I was playing around with DCWorkflows worklists and wondered how the expressions work. I thought about the possibility to give owners the 'Review portal content'-permission in Members-folders. In worklists I first set the permission, but that did not work. Actions from transitions did come visible, but not this new worklist. New worklist came visible for manager-users though! I tried the same with expression: python: here.portal_membership.checkPermission('Review portal content', here) And same happened. Manager or everyone else, who had the Review portal content set in the portal root, saw this ned worklist. No one else. This raises question that are transitions' and workflows expressions evaluated in different contexts- or what migth cause this? Zope 2.5.0, DCWOrkflow 0.4 , CMF 1.3 b -huima

Re: [Zope] Problem Creating Instances Mysteriously Solved
by Dan Shafer 21 Apr '02

I spent some time this afternoon after my last post on this topic messaging back and forth with my friend and colleague Kevin Altis of PythonCard fame. I think I understand better now how to proceed with this project, at least *one* way to proceed better. I was making the classic programming error of letting implementation drive design. I don't *need* objects here. I can store all of the data I need stored in standard Zope objects and then use Python and DTML to manipulate their contents. I had allowed myself to become convinced that to "create a new clearing" of necessity meant creating a new clearing *object*. But a Clearing could be a structured document (XML), a collection of SQL database records or, as it turns out after only a little experimentation on my part, a collection of folderish Zope objects and documents manipulated directly through DTML (setting properties, etc.) IOW, no need for custom classes, just extend the built-in classes via properties which can be set in DTML methods and Python scripts. This is clearly no less OO than my original approach, but it will be several orders of magnitude easier to write and maintain. I'll probably finish this project now in about 10%of the time I've already spent just trying to get ZClasses working to my satisfaction. Lesson learned. If it seems too hard, it probably is. Thanks to Chris Weathers, Dieter Maurer, and others on this list for their help and insights. This is a fantastic community demonstrating once again why Zope rules.

Problem with date in Zope 2.5.0

Why does this line works in Zope 2.3.3 - win2K but not in Zope 2.5.0 - win2K? <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('startDate',_.DateTime('1970/01/01'))"> I just get the following error: Error Type: IOError Error Value: [Errno 22] Invalid argument Traceback (innermost last): File C:\PROGRA~2\ZOPE-2~1.0\lib\python\ZPublisher\Publish.py, line 150, in publish_module File C:\PROGRA~2\ZOPE-2~1.0\lib\python\ZPublisher\Publish.py, line 114, in publish File C:\PROGRA~2\ZOPE-2~1.0\lib\python\Zope\__init__.py, line 158, in zpublisher_exception_hook (Object: Zope) File C:\PROGRA~2\ZOPE-2~1.0\lib\python\ZPublisher\Publish.py, line 98, in publish File C:\PROGRA~2\ZOPE-2~1.0\lib\python\ZPublisher\mapply.py, line 88, in mapply (Object: test2) File C:\PROGRA~2\ZOPE-2~1.0\lib\python\ZPublisher\Publish.py, line 39, in call_object (Object: test2) File C:\PROGRA~2\ZOPE-2~1.0\lib\python\OFS\DTMLMethod.py, line 127, in __call__ (Object: test2) File C:\PROGRA~2\ZOPE-2~1.0\lib\python\DocumentTemplate\DT_String.py, line 473, in __call__ (Object: test2) File C:\PROGRA~2\ZOPE-2~1.0\lib\python\DocumentTemplate\DT_Util.py, line 159, in eval (Object: REQUEST.set('startDate',_.DateTime('1970/01/01'))) (Info: REQUEST) File <string>, line 2, in f File C:\PROGRA~2\ZOPE-2~1.0\lib\python\DateTime\DateTime.py, line 642, in __init__ File C:\PROGRA~2\ZOPE-2~1.0\lib\python\DateTime\DateTime.py, line 1014, in _parse File C:\PROGRA~2\ZOPE-2~1.0\lib\python\DateTime\DateTime.py, line 833, in _calcTimezoneName File C:\PROGRA~2\ZOPE-2~1.0\lib\python\DateTime\DateTime.py, line 395, in safelocaltime IOError: (see above) I could solve this problem by replacing 1970 for 1980. But imaging what would happen if I implement a functionality to search persons who were born on that date. Thanks in advanced, Josef.

Mixing ZPT and DTML in CMF
by Heimo Laukkanen 21 Apr '02

21 Apr '02

I know that ZPT and dtml-should not be mixed together, but I am moving old site from dtml to ZPT in CMF and wanted to test around, a couple of things. I stumbled into a strange behaviour when I wanted to use portal_url-tool in on of my dtml-piece that was later on included into a ZPT-template. In ZPT I include the file in the following way: <span tal:replace="structure container/navbar">Navigation bar</span> navbar is a DTML-method, in which I state: <dtml-let osoite1="portal_url" path="_.str(osoite1)+'/'" > Which makes no sense, since osoite1 will be an istance or URLTool. Meaning when I view the DTML-method it will show something like <URLTool instance at 906d7a8> But when that is included into the ZPT it will transform into the absolute url. Great. First I tried to use in dtml portal_url() which actually made it work in the DTML, but caused TALES-error in ZPT. ... Now my question is, that can anyone share any wisdow from where this behaviour comes from? I will be moving from the DTML later on, but for now it would be nice to know. -huima

Zope Booth at Apple's WWDC
by lozinski＠jobmart.com 21 Apr '02

21 Apr '02

I am thinking of sponsoring a Zope booth at Apple's World Wide Developer Conference in early may. Would anyone else like to share the booth with me. It costs $3,000 for the booth, so for three of us, that would be $1000 each, cheaper than the $1500 conference registration. Please let me know if you are interested. I know that in Europe people pooled together to exhibit at the big German CeBit conference. Regards Chris 1-510-795-6086 lozinski(a)openstepnews.com lozinski(a)jobmart.com
