ZClass edit with a PythonScript
by Tim Wilson 23 Apr '02

23 Apr '02

Hi everyone, I've built a more user-friendly edit form for a ZClass-based product. Now I'd like to use a PythonScript as the action of the form to actually process the changes. I think I'm 90% there, but I can't figure out how to refer to the object that needs to be changed in the Script. In the current version (included below), I'm referring to the object as 'newsitem', but how to I connect that name with the object itself? Here's the code: ## Script (Python) "doEdit" ##bind container=container ##bind context=context ##bind namespace= ##bind script=script ##bind subpath=traverse_subpath ##parameters= ##title=Edit a NewsClass instance ## REQUEST = container.REQUEST newsitem.propertysheets.Basic.manage_changeProperties(REQUEST) if REQUEST['body'] != '': newsitem.propertysheets.Basic.manage_changeProperties(readmore=1) else: newsitem.propertysheets.Basic.manage_changeProperties(readmore=0) newsitem.reindex_object() RESPONSE = REQUEST.RESPONSE if REQUEST.has_key('DestinationURL'): return RESPONSE.redirect(REQUEST['DestinationURL']+'/manage_workspace') return RESPONSE.redirect(REQUEST['URL2']+'/manage_workspace') Any hints would be appreciated. -Tim -- Tim Wilson | Visit Sibley online: | Check out: Henry Sibley HS | http://www.isd197.org | http://www.zope.com W. security issue!
by Iago 23 Apr '02

23 Apr '02

The setting: I have a folder (call it foo/bar), on which I've unchecked Acquire Permissions Settings and checked Authenticated, so logins should be enforced when attempting to access that folder. In foo, I define the index_html method. In foo/bar I have file.txt The issue: If I try to access foo/bar, I do not get authenticated -- it _seems_ to be going by the permissions govering foo/index_html, instead of foo/bar (before accessing) foo/bar/index_html (and then, lacking that, inheriting). If I try to access foo/bar/file.txt, I get asked to authenticate. This is wholly counterintuitive to someone who first did his authenticating years ago using .htaccess files -- permissions on a folder should affect attempts to acquire any resource within that folder, *regardless* of whether that resource is inherited or not! Is there a fix to this that doesn't involve the (less scalable) notion of copying the index_html method from the top into this directory? Thanks -- Fred Hicks <iago(a)iago.net>

login as member and manager with one browser on CMF
by Florian Konnertz 23 Apr '02

23 Apr '02

Hi to all, Is it possible to login as a user and manager in two windows with the same browser on CMF? To login as a certain user I shutdown my mozilla completey, and call CMF with the users homepage URL. Then I open a second window as a manager and login. If I do anything in the user window, I find me logged in as the manager in the reply window. How can I avoid this? Switching off cookies? No - Then I have to enter the pword everytime, haven't I?? Thanks, Florian

Inserting a variable in a context.manage statement in Python
by Dan Shafer 22 Apr '02

22 Apr '02

Is it possible to insert into a context.manage* statement a variable previously assigned in a Python script? If so, what's the syntax? I have the following: c = REQUEST.get('clearing_id','') context.manage_addFolder(c) # this works # Now what I want to do is add a document to the folder # If I include a hard-coded value for the folder name I just created as a test, it works # But this doesn't: context.c.manage_addDocument('NewDoc') I always get an AttributeError on 'c' which, if I understand correctly, is telling me that internally Zope is trying to do a getattr() on something to resolve c and not being able to do so. I'm guessing I need some kind of delimiter around the variable c here but I'm darned if I can figure out what that might be! I have tried every combination I could come up with after perusing the HOW-TO and Tip files for Zope, to no avail. Assuming the manage_addDocument method ends up calling addDTMLDocument in DTMLDocument.py, II can't see for the life of me why what I'm doing doesn't work. But it doesn't.

Problem Creating Instances Mysteriously Solved
by Dan Shafer 22 Apr '02

22 Apr '02

While we have no idea why this is the case, my incredible Zope hosting dude, David Elkins (hurrah.com) and I managed to get my code working so that I can now create instances of my own ZClasses reliably. We only did two things. We took the code that should have worked and didn't, copied it, and pasted it into a new DTML Method object with a different name (we called it 'test' instead of 'startClearing'). We restarted the back end of the Zope server. Now it works. It even works in its original form and name. No clue why. Frankly, only mildly interested in the reason. It works. I must, however, say that this has shaken my confidence in Zope a bit even though I am acutely aware that there could be dozens of non-Zope reasons for this to happen. This was just too weird and it cost me 21 unbillable hours. Weird.

ERROR: id already in use (deleted item)
by JP Glutting 22 Apr '02

22 Apr '02

Hi all, I am having a problem with the following error: Error Type: Bad Request Error Value: The id "MHC" is invalid--it is already in use. The item in question used to exist, but was deleted. The database has since been packed (at least twice). The origin of this problem seems to come from a bad Version, which locked a series of objects, and would not allow them to be modifed, nor accept version changes (it reported that there were no changes to save). I deleted the objects and started over. They now seem to be "phantom objects", and undeletable. I had this problem with "phantom objects" going back as far as Zope 2.1.x, but I had hoped it was fixed. Any pointers to tools for debugging the ZODB, or tricks for orking around this (other than chaning the object's name - which I have alredy tried successfully, but it does leave these "blocks" in the database) woudl be very welcome. Cheers, JP Glutting

changing property in __call__ without undo log entry (counter)
by Marcus Schopen 22 Apr '02

22 Apr '02

Hei, how to change counter's value without getting an undo log entry: def __call__(self, client=None, REQUEST={}, RESPONSE=None, **kw): [...] self.counter = self.counter + 1 It's not a counter product itself, but just a feature I want to put to an existing product without using one of the existing counter products (eg. FSCounter, ThreadSafeCounter etc.) Any ideas? Thanks Marcus -- ,---- [ Marcus Schopen ] | (0> | //\ P.O. DTML to create a product instance (ExternalFile)
by davis marques 22 Apr '02

22 Apr '02

I'm new to Zope and am having a lot of problems figuring out how to do something in DTML which I expect should be relatively simple. I have a product called ExternalFile installed. I want to be able to create a new instance of this object based on information supplied by the user in a form. I presume DTML is capable of doing this, but my searches have turned up nothing of help to date. I found this snippet of code from a Job Board HOWTO on the Zope site, but am not clear if I can reuse this model for ExternalFile, and what the method name might be to add a new instance of the product. <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('ts', ZopeTime())"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('id',_.str(_.int(ts)))"> <dtml-with "job_board_entry.createInObjectManager(REQUEST['id'], REQUEST)"> </dtml-with> I can surmise from this that REQUEST is an array that is passed to the object's createInObjectManager method. Is this method common to all objects that reside in folders? How can you find out the names of the available methods for a product? Also, the with construct is looking quite mysterious to me right now. If anyone has a sensible explanation for it that would be appreciated. Any help would be appreciated.
