module UserFolder problem

I am adding users to an acl_users using userFolderAddUser. What I can't figure out is that after I add a new user, I cannot log in using the username and password used when calling userFolderAddUser. If I manually set the password in acl_users.properties for that user, everything works great. Oh, I am using CookieCrumbler. Has anyone run across this? UTF-8 conversion

Hi, We are running zope with ISO-8859-1 as the encoding for HTTP responses. In term of Zope objects, all the properties are lines, string, etc (not ulines, ustring, etc). Now, we have been asked to support Japanese (with UTF-8). So my question is: what should I need to change (in configuration) and do I need to migrate any ZODB data? Thanks. Pascal

hi! i have a writeen am framework where objects have unique ids and instances are stored in btreefolders, one per class. if i want to retrieve an instance based on id, i lookup it's class name and the get the class' container path from my metadata manager (f.ex. "/app/data/Appointments/instances"). now i traverse to this container and get the object with given id from there. the process of traversing to the class' container folder is done on each object get. a cool optimization for me would be to cache class container folders in a python dictionary (much faster than traversal), but this doesn't work. the main problem is that objects retrieved from these cached folders have broken acquisition. actually i asked a similar question some time ago and was told: "don't store persistent objects in python dicts." i changed my code back to traversal and everything works, but now i finally reached the optimization stage and profiling indeed shows a huge improvement in object lookup with class container caching enabled. so can anybody tell me why this doesn't work, or what to respect to make it working? btw. the cache dict is implemented as a volatile attribute (_v_classContainerDict) of a singleton object in the db. best regards, jürgen herrmann _______________________________________________________________________ >> XLhost.de - eXperts in Linux hosting << Jürgen Herrmann Konrad Adenauer Allee 43, DE-93051 Regensburg Fon: +49 (0)700 XLHOSTDE [0700 95467833] Fax: +49 (0)721 151 463027 WEB: http://www.XLhost.de

Scalability

This is probably falls under the catagory of FAQ but I couldn't find a good answer through searching, so I'll ask. Are there any size limitations on file system storages? At what point can things become very slow? I'm wondering as much about the number of objects stored as well as file size for a Data.fs. And what about zeo storages. Is there on the number of zeo storages that can be connected to zope clients? As far as number of objects, I'm thinking in terms of 10,000,000 or more folderish and content objects. While I'm talking about it, are there any performance limitations on the zcatalog? Will it perform well even with this many objects? Thank you in advance, Kevin

Running scripts after zope startup

Hi, I'm working in a configuration module for other products I'm developing. The idea is that the user first has to make an instance from this product, then define there where the other products instances will be created, what header, footer, and style sheets they will use, etc.. The configuration product has to detect which of my products are installed, then load some xml Formulator forms. I just created a registry class that to do the detection process: import Products JM_PRODUCTS = ['JMConfigurator','JMPlace','JMPerson'] class JMRegistry: def __init__(self): availableJMProducts = {} for productName in JM_PRODUCTS: productModule = getattr(Products,productName,None) if productModule is not None: availableJMProducts[productName] = productModule self._AvailableJMProducts = availableJMProducts """More methods come here ... """ JM_Registry = JMRegistry() The problem here is that if I import this in the initialize method of my configuration product, the _AvailableJMProducts dictionary is empty because at this point the other products hasn't been jet registered by zope. I just thaught about something like the StartupScripts products does: running this after zope starts. My workaround was to call this in the __setstate__ method of my configuration product as follows: from Products.JMUtils import JMRegistry class JMConfigurator(ZCatalog): #__init__ and other methods come here #... def __setstate__(self, state): ZCatalog.__setstate__(self,state) if JMRegistry.JM_REGISTRY is None: JMRegistry.JM_REGISTRY = JMRegistry.JMRegistry() #After having initialized the registry, I can call the methods to #load the Formulator forms self.LoadFormulatorForms() This works well, but I think it is not the better place to define this kind of things. Accessing ZPT properties from another page

I've got a page template that I'd like to display some information contained in the properties of another page. Can I do this? I'd like to do something like: <div tal:content="context/otherpage/template/propertyname"></div> Though that obviously doesn't work. :) Does anyone know if something along these lines is possible?

Uploading photos into newly created objects

I'm trying to upload a Photo into a newly create object in my product class. The code looks something like this:: def manage_addSomething(dispatcher, id, title, photofile): destination = dispatcher.Destination() instance = Something(id, title) destination._setObject(id, instance) obj = destination._getOb(id) # at this point, is 'obj' wrapped in aq stuff??? _adder = obj.manage_addProduct['Photo'].manage_addPhoto _adder(id='', title='', file=photofile) class Something(Folder): def __init__(self, id, title): self.id = id self.title = title The error I get is: File "/home/peterbe/zope/zope285/Products/Photo/Photo.py", line 664, in manage_addPhoto dest._setObject(id, photo) AttributeError: _setObject I'm using Photo product 1.2.3 but I don't think it matters if it's a Photo I'm trying to add or any other product. If I add the photo after the transaction has been completed in a separate request it works fine to add the photo to the recently created object.
