creating instances of products "programmatically"
by greg landrum 21 Feb '02

21 Feb '02

Hi, I've got a Product question that I just haven't been able to answer using the documentation I can find. I've developed a Product called RDJM_JobImpl following the general procedure in the Developers Guide. The product class is defined so: class RDJM_JobImpl(Implicit,Persistent,RoleManager,ObjectManager) I've got enough stuff working so that I can add the product from the manage screen and the guts of the product itself work swimmingly. What I'd really like to be able to do is create instances of this class programmatically (either through scripts or DTML methods or whatever) instead of through the management interface. This I cannot figure out how to do. Pointers to the appropriate documentation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, -greg -- greg Landrum (greglandrum(a)earthlink.net) Software Carpenter/Computational Chemist

Planning a zope application: maximum size, performance issues
by Scott Wilson 21 Feb '02

21 Feb '02

Hi, I'm currently working on a recruitment processing system that aims to handle both applicant submissions and the management of the process by HR staff. The intention is to use a ZOPE-only solution with Zserver, ZODB (no external DB), Zclasses, and we have a successful prototype running (yay!). An important issue for us is how many applicants a single ZOPE server instance can handle, and what the total number of applications that a single instance can store, without suffering severe performance impairment or instability. This is important for doing forward planning (i.e. how long before the need to buy another server, split up the recruitment campaigns onto separate ZOPE instances etc.) I know its not a simple issue - there are considerations of how large an individual item is, how much processing an application requires once its submitted to the system (quite a bit) and how its all coded (mostly Python scripts called as methods on ZClass isntances) etc. But that said, are there any metrics that can be used to get some ball-park figures? Re: [Zope] adding user to exUserFolder, how
by Tobias Lang 21 Feb '02

It works :-) Are there any documentations about those interface-calls, or do i have to look into the code? Now i wanted to delete a user and tried this python script: ------------------------ request=context.REQUEST request.set('name',username) container.acl_users.manage_users('Delete',request) return username ------------------------ but this don't work and i don't know why? Is it possible to get an return value on failure, like: if container.acl_user.manage_users(...)==false ??? ZCatalog: Possibly corrupted Date Field Indexes in Zope 2.3.3
by Johan Carlsson [Torped] 21 Feb '02

21 Feb '02

Hi all, We have just experienced a strange phenomena in the ZCatalog of Zope 2.3.3. Everything seems to work alright except for searches using range:min, range:max and range:min:max on field indexes indexing dates. Using ranges on field indexes with dates result in empty result sets. To solve the problem we just had to remove the ZCatalog, re add it and re index all items. The it worked perfect again. The web master for the site claims that the error occurred sometime during the night. (This might be a false observation from his account.) Anyway, undoing all transaction one day back past the supposed "event" that might have triggered the corruption didn't solve the problem. So I wonder: 1. What could have happen? 2. Could it be that something not of Date type had been indexed? 3. How could I investigate what did happen? Is there any logging capability that might trap this kind of failures? (I'm currently waiting for a CD with all log files and the corrupted Data.fs.) Re: [Zope] Zope and SSL

thierry, please keep this exchange on the list so that other people might benefit from it. i can't advise you on specific setups involving site roots or access rules. i personally use nothing but a virtual host monster in all my setups because that is the easiest. with a VHM setup it would not be hard to add rewrite rules to apache that deal exclusively with manage-pages. maybe someone else using site roots/access rules can help. jens On Thursday, February 21, 2002, at 11:34 , Thierry Florac wrote: > > Hi... > > Well, I've tried to do what you say, i.e. installing apache-ssl and > creating a few rewrite rules, but I also have SiteRoot objects which > transform links URLs to "http://...". > So I think my problem can't be solved so easilly, as long as I'm not an > expert with SSL or mod_rewrite... > > Should I have to use "Access rules" also ?? PANIC (300) upgrading to 2.5.0
by Paulo Eduardo Neves 21 Feb '02

21 Feb '02

Hi, Zopistas! I'm trying to upgrade from 2.4.3 to 2.5.0, but I'm getting the weird error below when I start Zope: /home/samba/zope.temp# python z2.py -D ------ 2002-02-21T15:05:40 PANIC(300) z2 Startup exception Traceback (innermost last): File z2.py, line 495, in ? Can anyone help me? Some more info: 1. Zope 2.5 seems to work fine with the original Data.fs, the problem just happens when I substitute it with my own Data.fs 2. Everything seems fine with 2.43 3. How can I call a ZSQL method in <dtml-if> tag?
by Jin Chen 21 Feb '02

21 Feb '02

Hi there, I am a newer to zope application. I met a problem of calling a ZQSL method in the DTML if tag. Here is the example: I have a ZSQL method called "CountCrew" which has no input parameter. the query is: select count(*) from crew 1. I test it looks good on the ZSQL method "CountCrew" page. If the table crew has no data, it returns 0, if has one record, it retuens 1... 2. I call this ZSQL method in a DTML method, code likes: <dtml-if expr="CountCrew == 1"> <dtml-call "AddCrew(ptime=time1,name=name2,pemail=email1)"> <dtml-else> <dtml-var Error> </dtml-if> But the <dtml-if ..> test is false and show the Error message no mater there is one crew or none in the crew table. If I test it like this: <dtml-if "CountCrew">//or <dtml-if expr="CountCrew"> <dtml-call "AddCrew(ptime=time1,name=name2,pemail=email1)"> <dtml-else> <dtml-var Error> </dtml-if> the <dtml-if ..> test is always true and add the record no mater there is none or one crew in the crew table. You know, I want to add the record in the crew table only if there is at least one crew exist in the crew table. I don't know what's wrong with calling the ZSQL method in DTML if tag. Please give me any advice if you have time. Thanks in advance!
