ZCatalog inside ZClass - AttributeError when adding index
by Juergen R. Plasser / HEXAGON 31 Jan '02

31 Jan '02

Hi all, when I create a ZCatalog instance inside my ZClass container (as described in http://www.zope.org/Members/Zen/tips/tip_ZCatalogInZClass) I get an AttributeError. Here is snapshot of my code in the myclass_add DTML method: >>> <dtml-call "manage_addProduct['ZCatalog'].manage_addZCatalog('Catalog','','create_defa ult_catalog_',REQUEST)"> <dtml-with "Catalog"> <dtml-call "manage_delColumns(['summary',],REQUEST,RESPONSE,URL1)"> <dtml-call "manage_addColumn('test',REQUEST,RESPONSE,URL1)"> <dtml-call "manage_addIndex('test','FieldIndex',REQUEST,RESPONSE,URL1)"> </dtml-with> <<< The problem seems to be the manage_addIndex method. What am I doing wrong? When I change the given dtml-call into <dtml-call "manage_addIndex('test','FieldIndex',None)"> everything works fine. Am I missing something or is this the right way? Here is the trace: >>> Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. transactions not supported by this server?
by Greg Conway 31 Jan '02

Hi all, I've just reinstalled MySQL, hopefully upping it to a later version, as I had some library problems (I have previously posted these, but have just managed to get it sorted!) Now, my Zope site (previously working) comes up with the following: Error Type: NotSupportedError Error Value: transactions not supported by this server Can anybody please tell me what this means so I can fixed what worked five mins ago!!!! thanks, Greg Conway. -- +-----------------------------------+ | Greg Conway, Technical Director | | GML Networking Technologies | +-----------------------------------+ Email/MSN: mailto:greg@gmlnt.com ICQ#: 100219981 mobile tel.: +44 (0) 7974 666 967 mobile fax: +44 (0) 7970 087 935 GML support: +44 (0) 1255 851 999 Internet: http://www.gmlnt.com office tel.: +44 (0) 1255 672 103 office fax: +44 (0) 1255 679 909 +-----------------------------------+ | GMLNT ** Sensible Smart Solutions | +-----------------------------------+ *********************************************************************** This is a confidential communication between sender and addressee. How to share CMF-Skins
by Jo Meder 31 Jan '02

31 Jan '02

Perhaps this is a stupid question and perhaps this isn't even the right place to ask it. So: sorry if I'm all wrong. I'm in the process of setting up a number of CMF-based sites and one thing is increasingly annoying: Whenever I make a change to my customized skin (german translations, quite different layout, a number of special functions) I have to manually copy all the changed DTML-Methods and -Skripts to all the CMF-Sites. This is all within one Zope-Server. Is there any way to set up a common folder for all the CMF-Sites to use? Best regards, Jo.

Link between object
by Dominique Jouniot 31 Jan '02

31 Jan '02

Hello all, This is perhaps a newbie question (i am a newbie !!!). I am looking for a solution to link an object (an image or a file by exemple) present in a zope folder to an other folder (like the ln command in unix). The idea is to have the possibility to destroy the original object and all the link in the same action. Is it possible with the ZODB ? Thanks for your help Dominique Jouniot

Architecture Suggestions?
by Richard Gordon 31 Jan '02

31 Jan '02

hi I last played around with Zope maybe 18 mos. ago and didn't particularly care for it, but have recently gotten interested again- either it's improved greatly or I have or maybe both, but in any case I'm seriously considering it for use in a rather peculiar project and would appreciate any suggestions that you may care to offer. Briefly, a client of mine has an intranet web site that contains its ISO-9000 documentation. The content is almost entirely in native Word, Excel, etc. format (not because that's a good idea, it's just the way things had to be and have to remain as a practical matter). There are over 1600 documents and around a third of them have 2700 hyperlinks embedded in the text flow that use relative addressing. As you would expect, the file sizes are huge- the largest is 9.4 megs and the average is 181k- if you throw out the largest 50 and smallest 50, the average is still 114k. Anyway, this has worked better than it should for about a year in spite of being served by the miserable IIS on NT and I've used python scripting to handle the menu maintenance and to do some fairly arcane reporting. The site is actively used by maybe 150 people a day and something significant changes at least 2-3 times a week. Suffice it to say that there have been regular problems as well, about 80% because of IIS (i.e., mystery file and folder locking for weeks at a time and other functionality that you can read about in the M$ bug database) and the balance because the IT guys are slackers who apparently have very little understanding about how NT works. The upshot is that now there is talk of migrating the whole thing into Lotus Notes (using a web interface) and actually storing the files in Notes mainly to obtain better reporting. This strikes me as absurd given the file sizes and the need to reset all of the embedded links in the documents among other things, so I am thinking more along the lines of a) getting this site moved onto its own server, preferably either bsd or linux, and b) using apache to serve the static files from the file system and c) using Zope to handle the interface, any DB connections that are appropriate, and managing things via ExternalFile. I would assume that the internal links will work without any changes since the file system is still the same. Does anyone see a big problem with this approach? And does anyone have experience with Lotus Notes in this type of project? I've never heard anything good about Domino server except that it was appropriately named, but.... Thanks & sorry to ramble on for so long. Richard Gordon -------------------- Gordon Design Web Design/Database Development http://www.richardgordon.net

RE: [Zope] Zope Logout
by Keith Alperin 31 Jan '02

31 Jan '02

Todd, thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, my host is running Zope 2.3 on top of python 1.5.2 and thus will not support ExUserFolder. Cookie User Folder may work, but I would at least like to hear from others who have attempted to get around this problem. I'm particularly curious to know why the try/finaly scheme didn't work. I did notice something strange. When i navigate to my dtml document that has the logout code, i am presented with the http authentication dialog. However, providing my credentials still yields the Unauthorized error message. Has anyone been able to log out of a session using the standard user folder without displaying the error message??? Thanks so much, Keith -----Original Message----- From: Todd Graham Sent: Wed 1/30/2002 8:27 PM To: Keith Alperin; zope(a)zope.org Cc: Subject: Re: [Zope] Zope Logout Take a look on Zope.org for Cookie User Folder, or ExUserFolder these products give you more flexibility when handling authentication. Hope this helps, T ----- Original Message ----- From: Keith Alperin <KAlperin(a)ignitesports.com> To: <zope(a)zope.org> Sent: Wednesday, January 30, 2002 12:33 PM Subject: [Zope] Zope Logout Greetings Zopistas! I'm currently working on a site where I have one requirement left to fulfill before I can release. I need to be able to allow users to logout and sign in as someone else. After doing some research I came up with some DTML that looks like this (I don't have the code in front of me, but it's pretty similar): <dtml-raise Unauthorized> You are not authorized </dtml-raise> This does log the person out, but also generates a pretty ugly error message. If possible, I'd like to use a redirect. However, this still raised the Unauthorized error: <dtml-raise Unauthorized> <dtml-var expr="RESPONSE.redirect('/')"> </dtml-raise> Finally, I tried a try/finally block which still errored out: <dtml-try> <dtml-raise Unauthorized> You are not authorized </dtml-raise> <dtml-finally> <dtml-var expr="RESPONSE.redirect('/')"> </dtml-try> Any advice that anyone can provide would be MOST appreciated. Thanks so much! Keith R.
