Hello, I'm looking for advice related to the following question: I set up a store full in zope. I'll have 3000 articles wich are all the same (DVD). Each one has got a lots of acteurs. my question is; Do I have to store acteurs objects in on folder allacteurs or those objects have to be store in each DVD folder. In other word, the strucuture should be like this: -Root- l--DVDS- l l--DVD1 l l--DVD2 l l--allacteurs- l--acteur1 l--acteur2 or: -Root- l--DVDS- l l--DVD1- l l--acteur1 l l--acteur2 l l--DVD2- l--acteur1 Important things is that acteur objects hold 4 properties like sex, star or not star .... Then when a user look a a DVD, acteurs (wich are in the casting of this DVD) are listed and should be sort on star properties for example. I don't know when the most efficient way is all acteurs in a folder or instances of acteur object like subobject of a film. At this point my DVD instances held an thisdvdacteurs property (lines) with Ids of acteur object in lesacteurs. then i make a restricted traverse to access the name of an acteur folders. I got problem ti sort results by this way. the second important point is that I'll have to import a csv file wich contain all the base. For importing I think it wil be easier to have acteur object store in each DVD folder. Thanks for your advice§. When something is not enough clear ask me explanation (my english does not allways reflect my french mind !!) src=url does it have to be (ftp,http,file...) can it be scr="<html> whoohwoo </html>"

Lets say one wants to design a web page top = html_function(x) side = html_function(y) main= html_function(z) <html> <frame set .....> <frame src=top> <frame src=side> <frame src=main> </frameset> </html> Now I the src tag expects a registered url type, but is there a type that allows parsing of text. I know I could pass the parameter through <frame src=top?x> But this is a far less elegant solution when dealing with lots of parameters Or maybe I should get some sleep :) Chris

problem/missunderstanding?? with refresh
by Robert Rottermann 13 Nov '01

I created a product that adds new rules to structured text. To this aim I base a class on Structured Text and add to the rules of the base class like so: class DWIClass( StructuredText.DocumentWithImages.__class__ ): text_types = StructuredText.DocumentWithImages.text_types text_types.insert(1,'doc_named_linkEx' ) text_types.insert(1,'doc_inner_linkEx' ) text_types.insert(1,'doc_redPicture' ) My reasoning is that as text_types is a class variable it exists only once. However when I refresh the product after a change the above lines are added each time anew. Now my questions: Is my code wrong from a python view of things, or should refresh clear the whole thing? Does Python create an instance of the base class and an instance of my class?? Robert

Zope Error Logging
by Arun Joseph 13 Nov '01

Hi, We have developed a product (a mini ECRM) on Zope/Python/Mysql and the product is currently used by a few customers. Off late on our production server, we are getting zope error messages on the linux console. We believe that this is affecting the performance. I have turned on detailed error logging, when zope is started using the -M switch. When I read the resultant error log file, I find a lot of information, some of which is not quite clear. Can anyone please tell me, what the data in the error log file means? A sample of the text from the error log file is given below. Cannot Import DateTime
by Ben Ocean 12 Nov '01

12 Nov '01

Hi; I'm trying to install EMarket and I've run into this problem: >2001-11-12T19:11:58 ERROR(200) Zope Could not import Products.EMarket >Traceback (innermost last): > File > /apache/ZopeInstallation/Zope_software_home/lib/python/OFS/Application.py, > line 558, in import_product > File > /apache/ZopeInstallation/Zope_software_home/lib/python/Products/EMarket/__init__.py, > line 12, in ? > File > /apache/ZopeInstallation/Zope_software_home/lib/python/Products/EMarket/EMarket.py, > line 23, in ? >ImportError: cannot import name DateTime Now, that line in the complaining script reads thus: from Globals import HTMLFile, MessageDialog, Persistent, DateTime So, apparently, it's importing all the other modules from Globals, why not DateTime? Or, how do I install DateTime? Or check if I have it? TIA, BenO

ZSQL caching question
by Schmidt, Allen J. 12 Nov '01

12 Nov '01

We have a section of our site delivering online classifieds which are imported from text file into a Microsoft Access2000 DB and retrieved using ZSQL methods connecting to Access with a ZODBC adapter. Works fine. Most of the expensive ZSQL methods are cached in the Advanced tab. To make the switch to MySQL, I copied the whole Classifieds folder and renamed it. Then created a MySQL connection to the new database and went into each ZSQL method and pointed them to the new MySQL DA. I checked the caches and they are still there. Problem: Even for one user while testing, the site section is VERY SLOW. Our admin says while monitoring the MySQL DB the connections go way up and it loads up the server. Question: Are the caches 'moving' along with the ZSQL methods when the DB connection was changed? Grasping at straws but it should be faster than using Access. The other site we converted to MySQL from Access did not have the problem and never thought to check the caches...it just worked and was much faster. Any ideas or am I just missing something? Thanks Allen -----Original Message----- From: Jason Earl [mailto:jason.earl@simplot.com] Sent: Monday, November 12, 2001 2:14 PM To: csnorville(a)fedex.com Cc: zope(a)zope.org Subject: Re: [Zope] File I/O in Zope csnorville(a)fedex.com writes: > Hi Everyone, Hello > I am fairly new to Zope and I need some assitance on something that > I know is fundamental so please don't beat up on me too bad ;-) I haven't been a member of this list for too terribly long, but the folks here seem to be pretty darn friendly. > I am try to open a file with a Python Script in Zope for content > manipulation. This is a text file, I basically want to read a > number, operate on it and write it back out. However when I try to > get my file handle I get; You are going to need to use an External Method (or a Product) for this. The Zope based Python scripts only offer a "safe" subset of Python. Opening files on the filesystem is not a part of this "safe" subset. > file=open("/home/chris/misernumber", "r+") > > Zope Error > > Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. > > Error Type: NameError > Error Value: global name 'open' is not defined > > I tried creating the file as a Zope object but I get the same error. > Again I know this is fundamental. If ya'll can help me with this, or > at least point me to some documentation it would be deeply > appreciated. There probably is a way to do this with Zope objects, but it wouldn't be using open(). There is a whole slew of methods for manipulating Zope objects, check the Zope API section in the Zope Book. Depending on what you are actually trying to do there might be a more Zope-like way of accomplishing it than with the External Method hammer, but without knowing what you are trying to do it is hard to guess what that more Zope-like thing should be.
