wtf, Getting MySQL working for Zope is a tramatic experience, I think I need therapy

So here is what I have tried: I installed the Python-MySQLDB mod, but was using an old version of python, then I upgraded python and re-installed it. then I banged my head against the wall trying to figure out how to use my python executable and not Zope's. Finnally figured that out (basically undocumented) So then ZMySQLdb showed up as functional but gave the following message and restarted the server whenever I tried to use it: WARNING: Python C API version mismatch for module _mysql: This Python has API version 1010, module _mysql has version 1007. I have no idea what this means, so I tried making a symlink between a directory in my lib/python and lib/python2.1 directories to the directory containing the Python-MySQLdb .so file and using the Zope provided interpreter (to no avail). It can't find the module. I think one of my problems may also lie in that I don't know how to uninstall the old python, I didn't really upgrade, I just installed the new one and overwrote the python executable, with the new one, I know this probably wasn't too smooth, but this is a learning process. NEway, any help would be GREATLY appreciated. And if any Zope Dev's are reading this. PLEASE make MySQL and PostGRES connectivity standard with any Zope installation. Thank you Jacob Singh

Gadfly

Hi; I'm implementing a product called zCommerce for the development of a simple shopping cart. The author (who is probably enjoying the weekend and not checking his email) recommends using Gadfly for the backend db and I've followed his advice. However, I can't figure out how to get the data out of Gadfly! If I were in MySQL, I'd run show databases and then show tables to figure out what was going on. But I don't even know how to get *into* Gadfly. What do? TIA, BenO

login methods

Hi everybody. I've asked some questions in the past about login methods and the answers I got were pretty confusing / over my head. So I've taken some time here to research this and want to see if I've got this down and then I have a couple more specific questions. Okay, so we have the following: 1. Basic HTTP authentication 2. Cookie authentication 3. URL rewriting with something like Cookieless Session. I imagine you could use a session variable like UserID taken from a user database? I don't know if this is a typical authentication method and I've just started looking into this. So I'm still learning about this, but my understanding is as follows. 1. Basic HTTP authentication is out if you want a customized login page. 2. I get mixed reactions to cookies - some people turn off cookies, etc. So maybe this isn't a great authentication method. Which would bring me to option 3. At this point, I don't have a specific problem/solution in mind, I'm just trying to learn about this so I have the appropriate tools in hand when I need them. So, finally, my questions: 1. Is there a way to do authentication without the use of cookies and without url rewriting? 2. How does Zope.org authenticate it's users? I've noticed that I can log in as more than one user at the same time from a single computer. I don't see a URL rewrite and I didn't think cookie authentication allowed you to do that. I'm not sure if that is clear, so here's an example of what I mean: I created a practice site using mysqlUserFolder and cookie authentication. If I login to that site and then open up a new browser window and go to that same site, it shows me as being logged in already. Zope.org doesn't do this. Thanks again everybody. -Jeremiah

Hi; I've built a site with inline frames. Each page has one inline frame that bears the same name as the page calling it with the tag *_frame*. I want to code into my template a way to call the dtml document and render it within a noframes tag in the calling document. I have created a Python method called concatFrame.py: import string def concatFrame(str): frame = string.join(str,'_frame') return frame I'm trying to call it thusly: <dtml-var "concatFrame(title_or_id())"> It ain't working. What do I need to do? TIA, BenO

Zope 2.4.2 crashes, and crashes... help is needed!

Ok, so my crashing problem has not gone away. I updated from 2.3.2 -> 2.4.2 about a week ago and since then Zope has been crashing every 15 minutes or so! Since it is a set of live sites I thought to try another one sitting by itself and yes, it runs for hours. Hi; I'm trying to concatenate a <dtml-var> with a string. I have this poor attempt: <dtml-var expr="_.string(title_or_id.'_frame')(_,_.None)"> where *title_or_id* is (of course) the <dtml-var> and *_frame* is the string. How should I do this? TIA, BenO
