RE: [Zope] Newbie Question

Within a DTML method, I have two forms, each having their action point to back to itself - the DTML method. The query to execute is determined by a dtml-if statement, looking for the NAME from the form. The DTML method id is 'atp_search' <FORM METHOD="GET" ACTION="atp_search"> Enter any character to search by Model #: <INPUT TYPE="Text" NAME="model"> <INPUT TYPE="Submit" VALUE="Go!"> </FORM> <FORM METHOD="GET" ACTION="atp_search"> Enter any character to search by Mfg Part #: <INPUT TYPE="Text" NAME="mfg" > <INPUT TYPE="Submit" VALUE="Go!"> </FORM> <dtml-if model> <dtml-in atp_model size=50 start=query_start> display stuff from the atp_model ZSQL query </dtml-in> </dtml-if> <dtml-if mfg> <dtml-in atp_mfg size=50 start=query_start> display different stuff from the atp_mfg ZSQL query </dtml-in> </dtml-if> -Scott -----Original Message----- From: Lynn Mayes [mailto:LMayes@advpol.com] Sent: Friday, November 02, 2001 1:08 PM To: 'Zope(a)zope.org' Subject: [Zope] Newbie Question Hi there, Looked through many archived mailing lists, and I don't see specifally what I want - or I didn't look in the right place. In any case, if this is an old question, please forgive me. Couple of things: 1) Working with SQL tables through Zope - Have created queries, and they work fine. However, I would like to create one area (DTML method), where I can have 3 different submit buttons, querying 3 different queries - I am sure this is possible, I just am not too sure how, as this is still new to me. Want to have the user be able to pick what ever he/she wants to query from one location. 2) If I run query A, I get results, but when I try to edit the results page, I can't. I need to edit the query results page, how do I do this? 3) In the SQL table, I have values 1-4 from a option box in an Access from. I want to substitue the 1 for the word use in the query results - how do I do this? Thanx so much for your time. For example, > people can put in a description and date of the image produced. Stuff like that, do > you think manage_addImage is a solution for doing that kind of stuff? Thanks. I gave also some hint how to do it... Several options: * make a ZClass inheriting from "Image", give it a property sheet with your additional meta data make a constructor form that lets your user specify all data (especially the image) make a constructor action that creates an instance of your ZClass, adds the meta data and the image (with "manage_upload") The Zope Book should tell you more about ZClasses. * make your own add (and edit) form and action. The add form lets the user specify all meta data and the image. The action creates a new image (with manage_addImage), adds the required properties (with "manage_addProperty") and then gives them the required values (with "manage_editProperties"). * make a Python based product inheriting OFS.Image. Give it additional properties. Make add form and action similar to previous option (but you do not need to add the properties as they are already there). The second approach is the easiest, but also the one that is the most difficult to maintain (in case you should want to add an additional property, for example). The other approaches are similar. ZClasses support you via a Web based interface. This is missing for Python based products (you need to read the Developper Guide...). Python based products are more efficient, but some people think there are easier to maintain (I do not belong to this group). Next time: To the list! Plain Text! Dieter

External methods returning multiple variables?
by Doyon, Jean-Francois 02 Nov '01

02 Nov '01

Hello, I would like to have a DTML Method call an External Method that would set a bunch of variables that could be used further in the DTML using a simple <dtml-var myvariable> where myvariable was set by the External Method. The trick is the name and number of variables isn't fixed. So far I've managed to get all my name value pairs into a dictionary that I return with "return dictionary", but I'm not sure how to properly call this external method in order to make sure the dictionary gets returned ... can I even do that? And once I get this dictionary accross, how do I use it in DTML ? Am I on the right track here? Re: [Zope] Howto convert ZSQL results
by Julián Muñoz Domínguez 02 Nov '01

Thanks a lot !!! The query I am doing is: select MAX(CliCodigo) from ClientesTabla And the column that is returned by zope is named 'Expr1000' (a bit strange :-)), and doing: I=int(container.last_customer()[0].Expr1000) Works !!! Thank you, I was becoming fool :-) On Fri, 2 Nov 2001, Casey Duncan wrote: > On Friday 02 November 2001 11:21 am, Julián Muñoz Domínguez allegedly wrote: > > How to convert to integer the the result of a ZSLQ method ?? > > > > > > > > > > I call a ZSQL method with: > > l=int(container.last_customer()) > > > > > > The field I query is has the type "VARCHAR(10) with Null" > > I am doing this query through ZODBC DA, to an Access .mdb file. > > > > I am digging many hours in the Documentation, and doesn't find the answer. > > > > > > I get this error: > > > > > > Zope Error > > > > Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. > > > > Error Type: AttributeError > > Error Value: DatabaseResults instance has no attribute > > '__int__' > > > > It sounds like you are trying to convert the whole row or recordset to an > int, which obviously won't work. Re: Threading, dtml and performance?!

Well I've tested your script with an old backup of Zope 2.3.2 on an Win NT SP 5 machiene. There are no problems. The script runs in one window and in the other I can surf the management screen. My Solaris can't do that. On Solaris and on NT I could see your second problem. When I press cancel on the Browser the process/thread doesn't stop. Thats really a problem. I started your script twice and the machiene (NT) is nearly not usable anymore. But thats better than Solaris - there I can't start the process twice! For me I've prooven that there is something VERY WEIRD with the Solaris Zope. OK it might not be Zope but Python. As for me I need an answer / solution desperately! Any ideas anybody? My primary guess is, that Solaris doesn't relese the threads after using them. I've tried a threaded Python script on my Solaris machiene and that had no problems. But I must confess I have no clue on how Zope Threading works. Therefore my test doesn't proove anything really. By the way...it also shows how fast Zope really is because if I run "singlethreaded" and Zope can still serve a few thousand requests a day thats really not bad. problems with security with file objects
by Robert Rottermann 02 Nov '01

Hi there, I have word documents on my site. When the user wants to download them she is presented with a authentication dialog. It is enough just to cancel it. However this is very distracting, and a user normally assumes she has hot the appropriate rights. This even happens when I am logged in into the ZMI and want to download the document. Help will be very much appreciated! thanks Robert

Xron 0.0.9 / Zope 2.4.1 / Python 2.1 win32-x86 install problems.
by Jos Yule 02 Nov '01

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello all! I've gone through all the zope and zope-dev archives (via asdn) looking for references to Xron and my problem. Lots of posts (181), but none that seemed to deal with this issue. I patched XronDTMLMethod.py and Dispatcher.py with the import DateTime fix, so the product now does not appear broken in the Products folder (as it did before i patched these files). However, it does not appear in the 'Select type to add...' drop down menu. I've re-compiled the files, to make sure they were importing correctly (by removing Xron from the product dir, del'ing the .prc files and restarting the server). I've restarted the server multiple times. I'm sure its a Zope 2.4.x vs. Xron 0.0.9 issue... Oh ya, i've also set the STUPID_LOG_FILE (or whatever its called) env variable, and there is no file in the var directory (which is where i set it to point to)... so i cant give you any info about that. Any suggestions? Any more info i could provide? Calling DTML from a python script
by Chris Meyers 02 Nov '01

02 Nov '01

My situation is this: I have a form that users fill in any or all textboxes. They then click the submit button which calls a python script which gets the information from context.REQUEST and builds an XML statement along with some other stuff. The script then calls a ZSQL method which inserts this XML and other stuff into a requests storage database table. I would then like my python script to call a DTML Document which will display the results of a query of a different table based on the info the user had input, which is where I am running into problems. My calls to the DTML Document are failing. I have tried the method suggested on this list a couple of days ago: return context.zopeObject(REQUEST=context.REQUEST) but that isn't working for me because the DTML document I am calling is one folder down from my python script so the document gets lost when it tries to get some of its necessary information in the parent folder. I have also tried using setVirtualRoot, but that isn't working either. So now I have to ask for help. How do I call a DTML Document from a python script when the Document is in a subfolder of the folder holding the script? Strangeness with Zope and Postgres
by Chris Kratz 02 Nov '01

02 Nov '01

For months now, we have been noticing that every once in awhile zope just appears to freeze up. I go and look at the zope processes and they are all sleeping. The only way to fix the problem was to restart zope, hence I didn't think about the fact that it might be the database. I have been monitoring it and assumed it was something funny in Zope, but something that was mentioned on this list made me start thinking that it could be something funny happening with the database. We use postgres as our dbms and our site is heavily database instensive. Sure enough, when ever the site appears to freeze, I go and look at the database threads and one thread has a status of "UPDATE WAITING" and the the others are sitting in the normal idle in transaction status. The server is idle (2% or less cpu) and the drives are as normal, silent. The server is doing absolutely nothing. I also found out how to lock it up every time. I have a specific page that does some intensive database work including some updates to some preference tables as well as some reads of some large tables, etc. If I go to that page and then hit F5 twice in succession, it locks up the system every time requiring a zope restart. Now I am starting to think that we are running into a concurrency issue with postgres and transactions. I was wondering if anyone with a bit more experience might be able to shed some more light on the situation and/or where I might look to further debug the situation. My hunch is that the following happens: 1. First request comes in. 2. User presses F5 before the first transaction finished. 3. Browser drops first connection and reconnects. 4. Zope starts to write to the socket, notices that the browser is no longer connected. 5. Zope aborts the transaction. 6. BUT, the database never get's a rollback and simply waits in the transaction for ever. 7. Unfortunately, this must also cause some locks that don't allow any other thread to do any work. 8. Restarting Zope closes those db connections and postgres roles the transaction back. Does anyone have any further suggestions on how to debug this further or to stop the problem? -Chris RH 7.2 Zope 2.4.1 ZPoPyDA Postgres 7.1.3 ------------------------------ Chris Kratz chris.kratz(a)vistashare.com
