Hi Peter: I test ur solution, but still does not work, i just rewrite the code in stand_html_footer.(also put <dtml-var url> debug code before and after that essential code ------- <dtml-in "test_for_page_count(url=url)">) still "test_for_page_count" zsql method could not handle URLO parameter <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('url', URL0)"> <dtml-var url> // it appears url here <dtml-in "test_for_page_count(url=url)"> <dtml-var url> // but it does not appear url here <dtml-if "count>=1"> <dtml-call update_page_count> <dtml-in getPageViews> <center> This page has been viewed <dtml-var count> times. </center> </dtml-in> <dtml-else> <dtml-call initialize_page_count> <dtml-in getPageViews> <center> This page has been viewed <dtml-var count> time. </center> </dtml-in> </dtml-if> </dtml-in>

strange, works for me... is the url parameter listed in the zsql method test_for_page_count (should appear in the "Arguments" field)? does it work if you set url to some fixed string eg. <dtml-in "test_page_count(url='some_url')"> ... hth peter. Stupid question: How do I add a Formulator form as an element in a DTML Document? Is there a way to treat it like a DTML Method and include it somehow? TIA, BenO

over head from zope server for a html file request...
by Sreekanth S Rameshaiah 27 Oct '01

Zope parses all dtml object requests. Hence even if we have static html in a dtml object zope server parses every request of that object. Can we make a html page and include that in any part our dtml documents to reduce server parsing overheads? Thanks for the reply, - sree

Hello, I have a very weird problem. I am appending to a list a piece of data that I have retrieved from a ZSQLMethod within an external method. That piece of data happens to be type date. This is with Zope 2.4. Not if you put that "left bar navigation system" object in a RAM Cache. For example on zopezen I cache the entire right hand navigation. This is briefly mentioned in: http://www.zopezen.org/Members/zopista/1003550055 Please keep the messages on the list so other people can see. ----- Original Message ----- From: "sree" <sree(a)indiacares.org> To: "Zopista" <zopista(a)zopezen.org> Sent: Friday, October 26, 2001 11:39 PM Subject: Re: [Zope] over head from zope server for a html file request... > Dear friend, > Nice to hear from you, > as of my understanding the cacheing can be done for a complete > web page.... > What if i require only one small part of the page say "left bar > navigation system" to be kept static. Security question
by Bocquillon Philippe 27 Oct '01

27 Oct '01

Hello, I have defined a new role. Zope is refusing me to add an object (of my own Python class), even if I check on all the permission settings for that role in the Security tab of the container folder (in a first step I turned only on some obvious permissions that role should have, but as Zope refused access to that role, I decided to try with setting on all the permission settings: it does not work better). Can someone help me and give some hints of why Zope is requiring that role to give password even when all permissions are checked on for that role ? Thanks in advance, Philippe Bocquillon

How can I let ZSQL method know the variable i define.
by Python 27 Oct '01

27 Oct '01

hi all: I red an article about "SQL Page Counter" in "Zope how-to", i implement it with Z gadfly database connection instead of POSTGRES database. but i found the "url" varible defined cound not forward to let ZSQL method know. <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('url', URL0)"> <dtml-in test_for_page_count> <dtml-if "count>=1"> <dtml-call update_page_count> <dtml-in getPageViews> <center> This page has been viewed <dtml-var count> times. </center> </dtml-in> <dtml-else> <dtml-call initialize_page_count> <dtml-in getPageViews> <center> This page has been viewed <dtml-var count> time. </center> </dtml-in> </dtml-if> </dtml-in> but "test_for_page_count" ZSQL method could not "url"'s value. how could this happen? here is his implementation : First set up a database, and a database connection. Then create your table. I called mine "countpages": --- SQL METHOD "create_table" --- CREATE TABLE countpages ( count INT4, url VARCHAR(255) ) Then, you'll need a few SQl methods: --- SQL METHOD "test_for_page_count" --- ARGUMENTS: url ---------------------------------------- SELECT count(count) FROM countpages WHERE url = <dtml-sqlvar url type=nb> --- SQL METHOD "getPageViews" --- ARGUMENTS: url ---------------------------------------- select * from countpages WHERE url = <dtml-sqlvar url type=nb> --- SQL METHOD "update_page_count" --- ARGUMENTS: url ---------------------------------------- UPDATE countpages SET count = count + 1 WHERE url = <dtml-sqlvar url type=nb> --- SQL METHOD "initialize_page_count" --- ARGUMENTS: url ---------------------------------------- INSERT INTO countpages ( count, url ) VALUES ( 1, <dtml-sqlvar url type=nb> ) Then, place this DTML in your standard_html_footer (or whereever you want the count to show up. <dtml-comment> ### PAGE COUNT TOOLKIT ### ### Test to see if this page exists in the database ### If it does, update the count and display it. ### If not, create a record for it, and display that. </dtml-comment> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('url', URL0)"> <dtml-in test_for_page_count> <dtml-if "count>=1"> <dtml-call update_page_count> <dtml-in getPageViews> <center> This page has been viewed <dtml-var count> times. </center> </dtml-in> <dtml-else> <dtml-call initialize_page_count> <dtml-in getPageViews> <center> This page has been viewed <dtml-var count> time. </center> </dtml-in> </dtml-if> </dtml-in> <dtml-comment> ### END PAGE COUNT TOOLKIT ### </dtml-comment> I found that

Nested properties
by Lars Heber 27 Oct '01

27 Oct '01

Hello, Zopistas, I just had a (for me) fantastic enlightenment, and I wanted you to participate. Long time ago, I (like so many other people here around) wondered whether it was possible to nest properties. I never solved the problem. Now, I had the same problem again, and I found a very simple solution: Say, we have two properties, prop1 and prop2, and I want to refer to either of those two props in a document. I want to determine to which I want to refer in a property of my document. So I simply create a document property myDocProp (string) and give it the value either prop1 or prop2. And here's the key: Instead of referring to myDocProp by <dtml-var myDocProp> do a simple <dtml-var "_.getitem(myDocProp)">. The only thing I still couldn't find out was how to put constant values in the property myDocProp. I tried 'my constant value' and some other things, didn't work. One non-optimal possibility could be to create a second doc prop, which carries the static value and then refer to that second doc prop from the first one. Perhaps somebody has a better idea? I would be happy about some feedback - perhaps this topic is even worth a mini how-to? Hope, I could help the community, and sorry, if that wasn't new anyway to some of you, but I thought it could be useful to a few people, 'cause I still remember how long I was looking for the solution for that simple problem... -- Lars Heber, mailto:Lars.Heber@t-systems.de T-Systems, debis Systemhaus GEI GmbH, Geschaeftsstelle Sachsen

the battle of pcgi
by Tom Deprez 26 Oct '01

26 Oct '01

Hi, Found some more info! You better don't install Personal Web Server on your NT workstation when trying to get Zope running behind a web server through pcgi... (if your NT is running on NTFS)... Instead install the Peer Web Services of NT Workstation... (yes also a PWS). Urg, this I found out only recently... Now, I got most things done... the only strange thing is that when I try to access Zope through http://localhost/cgi-bin/Zope.pcgi I receive a Zope Site Error telling me that it can't find the resource : cgi-bin GET Why does Zope looks this up in it's ZODB and just doesn't displays the password dialog? Somebody an idea why Zope gives this error? Or where I might look for the problem? Thanks, Tom.
