install problem: "Protocol wrong type for socket"
by Dave Still 20 Sep '01

Hello, I just obtained the latest Python & Zope RPMs and installed them on two different linux boxes. Both installations are exhibiting the same exact startup problem, even though they the Linux versions are very different. Running '/etc/rc.d/init.d/zope start' results in the following syslog output: Sep 19 12:01:07 wwwin-irv-tmp zope: zserver.sh startup succeeded Sep 19 12:01:10 wwwin-irv-tmp z2[21050]: Startup exception : error: (91, 'Protocol wrong type for socket') Status check: # /etc/rc.d/init.d/zope status zwatchdog dead but pid file exists zserver is stopped The RPM packages I used are: python2-devel-2.1.1-3 python2-2.1.1-3 Zope-2.4.1-1 Zope-zserver-2.4.1-1 Does anyone have any idea what's wrong? There are a couple of folks posting the newsgroup with this very same issue. Dave __________________________________________________ Terrorist Attacks on U.S. - How can you help? I still didn't get that. This is about the namespace, right? I read the part in the Zope Book, but somehow it just didn't get in to my brain cells ;-) Many thanks in advance, Jan PS: Maybe some can explain it to me in german? Maybe it is a language problem of mine... again, thanks Jan(a)Mountainbikehq.de http://www.MountainbikeHQ.de - Your home for DH, DS and CC Mountainbiking

If you are a python person, think of _ as a dictionary. _['content'] returns the value that corresponds to the key 'content'. _[content] first evaluates content and tries to return the value that corresponds to the key stored in 'content'. Was that confusing ?! Now I'm confused :) Troy > -----Original Message----- > From: Jan Lentfer [mailto:Jan.Lentfer@web.de] > Sent: Thursday, September 20, 2001 11:53 AM > To: grizel(a)mouli.net; zope(a)zope.org > Subject: Re: [Zope] Newbie question... > > > At 18:31 20.09.2001 +0200, you wrote: > > >You're not so far from the solution... > > > >Just try > > > ><dtml-in expr="_[content]"> > > <dtml-var whatever> > ></dtml-in> > > Thanks, > could someone please explain to me when and why to use the underscore? > I still didn't get that. Anyone know what's happened to joyful.com and/or zwiki.org? It seems to be down and I was looking to grab the latest version of zwiki. -- Edward Muller - edwardam(a)home.com - edwardam(a)handhelds.org "Ignorance is bliss." (Cypher, The Matrix)

RE: [Zope] Zope / Apache conflict

I generally will use the -X option to disable all servers that I do not _explicitly_ enable. Something like -X -P Zope.cgi -f 8021 Disables all servers, uses Zope.cgi for PCGI through apache and port 8021 for FTP. You can do the same for anything zope can serve with an external method. Troy

I mean it's clear that hitting a server with a _client_ program (i.e. my browser) can have unknown - to me - side effects like generating log-entries or formatting bill gates harddrive. But we are talking about a document format here which is generally seen as "passive", as an "offline" format and its application as an not net-aware application - not a network client. When I tried it a was stunned that even that innocent pdf-format has the capability to phone home. cheers, oliver

RE: [Zope] navbar - highlighting activated link

You need cascading style sheets look at the pseudo properties for anchors See http://htmlhelp.com/reference/css/structure.html and look under the header for "Anchor Pseudo-classes" Troy > -----Original Message----- > From: Aruna Prabhakaran [mailto:aruna_prabhakaran@hotmail.com] > Sent: Thursday, September 20, 2001 9:23 AM > To: zope(a)zope.org > Subject: [Zope] navbar - highlighting activated link > > > hi, > can anybody please tell me how to highlight a particular link on the > navbar/infobar when it has been clicked.I want it to work the > same way a > hyperlink works on any ordinary form.I've tried it but all > the earlier items > clicked also get highlighted. Please help > > Thanks in advance > > > Aruna Prabhakaran > ZeOmega Infotech Pvt Ltd > Bangalore > India. > > > _________________________________________________________________ > Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at > http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp > > > _______________________________________________ > Zope maillist - Zope(a)zope.org > http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope > ** No cross posts or HTML encoding! ** > (Related lists - > http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-announce > http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-dev ) >

This is really strang IMO. I already have a working zope 2.4.0 install on this machine, but I am installing a new/seperate zope 2.4.1 When I start up the new zope install I get the following error when I surf to it. Oh, and the other zope is stopped when I do this.... > Has anyone thought of using/modifying a text editor (or word processor!) > to send > HTTP request statements? Yeah, prominent examples being microsoft and adobe. http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/overview5.html I didn't find the right link for word, but www.yet2.com has a word file online which you can presumably (I don't have word) use to submit your information online after filling it out offline. Btw, http://office.microsoft.com/assistance/2002/articles/oPlanForNewBaby.aspx wtf is that? Oh my I tried adobe's solution a little bit, and it works well. One should know that these capablities can be used for really privacy intruding things. It's possible to create hidden forms on a pdf-page which submit on pageview in acrobat, really scary. cheers, oliver
