zcatalog and versions
by Oliver Bleutgen 21 Sep '01

Can somenone briefly explain what exactly gets locked in zope 2.3,3's catalog when it tries to index an object which is hold in a version? The whole catalog? I found some answers which indicate that it has to do with the catalog when we see version lock errors where there shouldn't be any (from a naive pov), but I would like to know how far reaching these problems are, because when doing a rewrite of that application, I might be able to work around that. Do these problems still persist in zope 2.4.x? cheers, oliver

RE HELP -> Non-Transaction Tables couldn't be rolled back
by Chris Keyes 21 Sep '01

21 Sep '01

Hi Brian If I remember correctly I had this problem last week, and Andy Dustman who helped us out in the Zope-DB list had this solution... If your using the ZMySQL database adapter, start your conection string with a "-". This disables transactions :-) so -database(a)server.domain username password ..... Putting a space after the - caused problems... Anyway hope that helps ;-) ChrisK

Best performances setup ?
by Thierry FLORAC 21 Sep '01

21 Sep '01

Hi, I recently discovered Zope, and a few questions came to my mind... - what is the best performance setup for Zope : is it better to use only a native ZServer or Apache with PCGI mode ? What are the benefits of each mode (security,...) ? - how many objects can the Zope database containt without any huge loss of performances ? Is there a file size limit for this database ?? Thank you for any advise... Thierry -- Les LOGICIELS LIBRES ?? Y'a moins bien, mais c'est plus cher !! http://gpc.sourceforge.net

Re: [Zope] zope hosting

Just a hint, in germany there's http://www.hostsharing.net/ (german only, google might give an idea) It's a "Genossenschaft", they use a certain juristical construct to build a community where everyone pays an entry fee and monthly fees, but owns part of the whole thing. Perhaps they would even be willing to set up zope in exchange for manpower. Or it's possible to adapt the idea for an eurozope hosting. They use debian iirc. cheers, oliver

Re: install problem: "Protocol wrong type for socket"
by Dave Still 21 Sep '01

A little more data. I ran strace on the startup script. The failure seems to arise from trying to open a socket connection to /dev/log. See below. I verified that /dev/log is world writable. And lsof and netstat report that syslogd has the socket open. [pid 22357] close(3) = 0 [pid 22357] socket(PF_UNIX, SOCK_STREAM, 0) = 3 [pid 22357] rt_sigaction(SIGPIPE, {SIG_IGN}, {SIG_IGN}, 8) = 0 [pid 22357] connect(3, {sin_family=AF_UNIX, path="/dev/log"}, 10) = -1 EPROTOTYPE (Protocol wrong type for socket) [pid 22357] send(5, "<9>z2[22357]: Startup exception "..., 81, 0) = 81 [pid 22357] close(3) = 0 Dave --- Dave Still <davestill(a)yahoo.com> wrote: > Hello, > I just obtained the latest Python & Zope RPMs and > installed them on two different linux boxes. I want to use dtml-in on the dictionary to get something like <dt>KEY<dd>VALUE for each entry in the dictionary. What's the recommended idiom for this?

Importing HappyDoc
by Anders Eriksson 20 Sep '01

20 Sep '01

Hello Zope, I'm using HappyDoc to document an application and I would like to have this documentation inside Zope. The application is an ongoing project which means that the documentation will change. Is there some clever way to import a 'whole HTML site'? -- Best regards, Anders mailto:ame@swipnet.se The more you cry, the less you have to pee

list summaries?
by kellan 20 Sep '01

20 Sep '01

I've played a little bit with zope, and recently decided to start figuring out how I would make it work for a real project. So I subscribed to this list, and also the CMF and Announce lists. And was quickly swamped by the amount of email.(of which there is a lot, much of which is very very specific to one person's problems) I've been on the list for 2 days now, and I've managed to save about 20 messages, or conversations, which I'm really glad to have seen, and read, and deleted what must have been hundreds of others. So I was wondering, does anyone do a summary for these lists? A summary like the Daily Python(http://www.pythonware.com/daily/), or eclectic (http://weblogs.userland.com/eclectic/) for XML-DEV Another project I've involved in that has a huge number of high traffic mailing lists, has one dedicated only to sending out summaries of other lists. (http://lists.indymedia.org/mailman/listinfo/imc-summaries) I'm sorry if I'm asking for a resource that everybody knows about, and already exists. And if no one is doing this? Would somebody be maybe interested in starting? It would make these lists much more approachable. getting the URL of the request....
by Rustad, Aaron 20 Sep '01

20 Sep '01

Can anyone tell me how to get the URL that was clicked in order to get to a certain page? What I mean by this is, I have an edit contents link that points to: http://address/medicine/clinical/folder_contents (Obviously in CMF, this brings up the contents of the "clinical" directory). However, when the page is rendered, the id absolute_url is just http://address/medicine/clinical and for functional reasons, I need to know if the page was rendered with "folder_contents". Any suggestions? Thanks! Aaron.

Python 2.1.1 won't compile
by Jan Lentfer 20 Sep '01

20 Sep '01

Hi all, so I just decided to lear Python I wanted to install Python 2.1.1. I got the tarball from sourceforge and tried to install it. This is what happens: fileserver01:~/Python-2.1.1 # ./configure --prefix=/usr creating cache ./config.cache checking MACHDEP... linux2 checking for --without-gcc... no checking for --with-cxx=<compiler>... no checking for c++... no checking for g++... no checking for gcc... gcc checking whether the C++ compiler (gcc ) works... no configure: error: installation or configuration problem: C++ compiler cannot create executables. fileserver01:~/Python-2.1.1 # The strange thing is that I could compile Python 1.5.2 and 2.0.1 without any problems. I am using SuSE 7.1. Can anyone help me. Are there libraries missing, something like that?
