Retaining file name in <input type=file...
by Simon Blandford 17 Sep '01

Hi, I have a form with a bunch of text boxes and a file browser. I have a Python function which scans the file selected and fills in the text boxes with the result when you press the appropriate action button. Then with the text boxes filled in for you, you just press the submit button. Problem: the selected file name has disappeared. I acheive filling in the text boxes in the Python function by using... REQUEST.set("description", what_i_want_to_go_in_it). Each text box in the DTML form looks something like this... <textarea name="description" cols="55" rows="4" wrap="virtual"> <dtml-var expr="REQEST.get('description','')" html_quote></textarea> This works OK, the problem is I would like the file name to stay put when I come back to it. It keeps comming back with a blank box right now. This is the present DTML... <input type="file" name="file" size="40" value="<dtml-var expr="REQUEST.get('file',')" html_quote>" ...and in the Python function... REQUEST.set('file', REQUEST.file) ...and I have also tried... REQUEST.set('file.filename', REQUEST.file.filename) ...neither of which works. Any suggestions on how to preserve the file name would be most welcome. Regards, Simon B.

Just in case someone runs into the same problems sometime I want to post the code I use now. ---------- <dtml-call expr="REQUEST.set ('working_folder', gallery_id)"> <dtml-with expr="galleries.restrictedTraverse([working_folder])"> <dtml-in expr="objectValues('Image')" sort=bobobase_modification_time reverse> <dtml-var title><BR> </dtml-in> </dtml-with> ------------ Maybe this will provide help to someone else in the future Now, one last question (Well, maybe not THE LAST ;-) ): Where the heck can one find stuff like that? I mean where can I learn that? Is that Python already and I should finally open up my Python book? RE: [Zope] how-to: dynamically create a list for the Value of a zClass multiple-selection Type?
by Trevor Toenjes 17 Sep '01

after a couple days of posting...finally SOLVED with lots of different input from others.!!! Thank you to the community. I still cant get it to work in DTML (any guidance on this?), but have successfully created my first Python script. very cool. Python script 'the_list' # create a multiple selection list for a zClass Property, by calling the ID's of a different zClass('anotherZclass') in a folder(folder_of_anotherZclass) within the site. myList=[] for id in context.REQUEST['PARENTS'][1].folder_of_anotherZclass.objectIds('anotherZcla ss_meta_type'): myList.append(id) return myList PARENTS controls where the target folder is in the site. (alter as necessary) >From within zClasses, it has to be hard-coded from what I have been told. There is no way to do sloppy acquisition, dtml-zope-like. Enter 'the_list' as your Value in the Property Sheet, and it should work. Use caselet: From "edit" in a zClass, dynamically render a selection list of related content(other zClasses) from a folder. The other zClasses can now be linked to this zClass using the 'ID' in a list of related links. one more step ahead, -Trevor

how-to: dynamically create a list for the Value of a zClass multiple-selection Type?
by Trevor Toenjes 17 Sep '01

Or put another way! how-to: make the Value of a zClass multiple-selection Type property call the ID's of other zClasses in a Folder. i searched the boards and zope.org, but couldnt find references to using multiple-selection in zClasses. specifically: What is the syntax for the Value of a multiple-selection Type? -to build from the instances of a different zClass The DTML below generates the list I need, but what is the syntax that makes sense to Value in zClasses? is this DTML generating the right type of list? ###the_list DTMLMethod <dtml-with folder_of_anotherZClasses> <dtml-in expr="objectValues('anotherZClass')"> <dtml-var "id"> </dtml-in> </dtml-with> When I instantiate myzClass, one of the myzClass properties is a multiple-selection list of all the instances of 'anotherZClass', in a specified folder. I want the 'id' because a method of myzClass is to create hotlinks to related 'anotherZClass'. Thanks again for the support, -Trevor

And now there's a problem that the object can't > be > found - for whatever reason. Take a look at your zope online help, you find it in the ZMI, under Zope Help/Api Reference/ObjectManagerItem: restrictedTraverse(path, default=None): Return the object obtained by traversing the given path from the object on which the method was called, performing security checks along the way. If an object is not found then the default argument will be returned. So the first call should set working_folder to 'galleries/'+gallery_id '/' instead of '.' - it's literally the path! Be aware that restrictedTraverse is a method of an ObjectManagerItem, so that admin.restrictedTraverse('galleries/gallerie1') == admin.galleries.restrictedTraverse('gallerie1') i.e. you call it on another object. restrictedTraverse also does acquisition wrapping, ie admin.restrictedTraverse('galleries/gallery1/gallery2').aq_parent.title_or_id() == 'gallerie1' while admin.restrictedTraverse('galleries/gallery2').aq_parent.title_or_id() == 'galleries' You can also traverse down from the root folder, in order to rule out surprises: restrictedTraverse('/admin/galleries/gallery1') cheers, oliver

Python Shell access
by Curtis Ruck 17 Sep '01

How can I get into Zope with a python shell? I am wanting to learn the API better and I figure if I can get inside Zope and perform dir() on objects I can learn the objects API better. Btw, I prefer getting inside to learn than to read documentation, especially when the documentation is terrible. Yours in service, Curtis W. Ruck

Trigger open/download of file object via script
by Andy Bulka 17 Sep '01

How do I trigger open/download of file object, whose id have had their .filename extensions removed? My file objects (that have been uploaded into zope via a form) are not given Id's that are the same as their original filename (cos of possible duplicate filename & other issues), thus clicking on a hyperlink genjerated with zope code like this: <a href="&dtml-absolute_url;"><dtml-var id></a> ain't gonna trigger a open/download dialog box (cos IE sees no file extension is present, I guess) Note that I *do* keep the original filename with extension - as the *title* of the file object (rather than as its Id) ) e.g. file01 has a title "fred.doc" e.g. file02 has a title "another letter re news.doc" EXAMPLE WHAT I WANT: I want to be able to click on a hyper link entry for say, "file02" and get a open/download dialog box prompting me to save/open that zope object as "another letter re news.doc" thanks for any help on this, -Andy Bulka

Browser/Zope interaction
by Horst Wald 17 Sep '01

17 Sep '01

Hi, is it possible do damage your Zope when something's wrong with your browser? A few days ago I noticed that my Internet Explorer displayed views of Zope-Pages that were clearly out of date even if I relaoded the page. When I emptied the cache and restarted IE the Problem was gone first and then reappeared. Shortly after I encountered problems with my Zope: file structure tree on the left displayed different subfolders of certain folders than the content frame on the right. These folders could neither be exported nor accessed via FTP. I had this problem with two Zope-servers going nuts this way one shortly after the other, and the only thing I can think of they have in common is the browser with which I accessed them. And there's something wrong with it, because I get "access-violation-errors" (or whatever "Zugriffsverletzung" is in english) several times a day. But can a damaged browser damage Zope? This theory seems a little weird to me, but I have no other. Any other explanation?
