Question about ZClass Tabs/Views (How do you make a custom edit_properties screen?)

I have a ZClass (derived from Folder). I want to be able to edit the properties in the ZClass, to wit, I have created an index_html file, a manage_editDoctrineFolderForm, and a manage_addDoctrineFolderForm that are stored in the ./doctrineFolder subdirectory. All of the above-identified files, as well as the ZClass file itself, are attached. I have a purplexing problem. Every time I add the ZClass, the proper add form appears and I am able to add the ZClass Folder derivative to the current folder. However, My "Edit" view table does not appear. Moreover, when I click on the Properties tab, only the Title property is shown, and not the other two properties of the object, i.e., a default manage_properties is being used, not the one I designated. I'm also having trouble getting Zope to recoginize my manage_editForm rather than the default forms. I suspect it is inheriting something, but it won't let me override those settings. Another problem is that Zope won't seem to For example, in the attached code, there is an index_html file that is to be invoked when you press the "View" tab in the manage mode. However, doing so presents an error message saying that the variable "status" isn't there. Well, I corrected that error, but it still shows up. (Incidentally, no errors were present when I restarted Zope). This problem is driving me nuts! I'm about to junk Zope altogether because you can't make a proper ZClass work without wiping out zope entirely, reinstalling the thing from scratch, and then installing the corrected class (it seems to be the only way to get Zope to forget the previous mistake). Zope has a memory like an elephant -- but only for your mistakes, not for what you want!. Surely there is a way to make changes in a ZClass show up in Zope. Surely there is a way to get the ZClass to have a decent edit screen other than the default? Diter, I implore you to write a section in your book with examples of products that have custom edit screens/properties/methods but in a way that you don't need a Computer Science degree to understand. Something along the lines of the Minimal product (great idea, but the code didn't always work, and he finished the Sequel before he got to custom Views/property sheets). The files are attached. dynamically creating ZSQLMethods in python

I found it a pain to manage ZSQL Methods inside Zope, too many mouse clicking for my taste. Besides, I felt it was "safer" if I could hide the ZSQL calls within python. Someone recently posted a solution using a ZSQLMethod's manage_edit function. However, every time the method is called, the Data.fs file gets updated and continues to grow until you do a purge. Below is snapshot of what I've done. It does not modify Data.fs, nor do you have any ZSQLMethod objects stored in Data.fs. The only thing you need is a sql connection object. Python Script control flow question

Hello, This should be terribly simple, but i just don't see how it should be. I have a python script, it handels the output of a SQL statement with a SELECT COUNT in it. It tests the case that the count is zero (and that there is no record in the SQLresult). This is my idea how it should be: SQLresult=container.SQL_statement() if (not SQLresult): resultcount=0 else: resultcount=SQLres[0][0] return resultcount This doesn't return a value if the resultcount is 0, nothing seem to happen during testing the python script. It works fine if the resultcount>0 This however is a working script SQLresult=container.SQL_statement() if (not SQLresult): resultcount=0 print resultcount return printed else: resultcount=SQLres[0][0] return resultcount It is ugly, but it works. Is it possible to remove the print resultatcount and the return printed somehow? context VS container : newbie question

Hi all I don't see really what is the difference between "context" and "container" in Python Script. In external method, context is a tacit argument, but how to refer to "container" ? Thanks for help Sylvain

ZCatalog searching again!

Thanks to the people who replied to my last question.I think the way Dieter told me to do it is the best way for me,that is,putting double quotes around the name before i search it.This however is a problem.The name is taken in from the user as a variable 'au'.So,for example,if the user enters 'paul dunbar',this is entered into the catalog search by au,not by the actual name.So,the problem is how do i enclose the au varaible in double quotes to be able to search the catalog.I have tried the following: <dtml-let fullname=-.str('"'au'"')> i was hoping that then fullname would be in the format "paul dunbar" and then i could enter fullname in to the catalog and not au. programmatic manipulation of Property Sheets

Could someone please show an example of the programmatic manipulation of property sheets for an instance of a Python class (not ZClass) derived from PropertyManager? I've looked at http://www.zope.org/Members/michel/Projects/Interfaces/PropertySheets and the pages it points to, which provide most of the information, and I'm sure I can read the code enough to figure out the rest, but it would be really helpful to have an example of some interesting manipulations. Specifically, I want to add a few property sheets, then define a few properties for each of those sheets (with initial values). Ideally, I'd like to do this generically somehow as part of my class -- especially the initial values -- rather than having to initialize every property of every sheet for each instance.

Your Help is seriously needed : retrieving Dtml Documents with user input filled from the form

Dear Zoptistals, (I am very sorry for the inconveniences that might have caused then i seriously need your assistance) I am having one serious problem which I will like you to assist me. I am keeping archives which is reference by the users by typing the file name into a form displayed on the web. i stored the user input into a var name called date_code. <input type="text" name="date_code">. The action on this form is pointed to a folder that contain an index_html file, which reference the file that bear the actual name stored inside the variable date_code. <dtml-var expr="_.getitem(_.string.lower(date_code),1)"> to render the file. This work perfectly when a user type in the value for the date_code var. My problem is this. I have some other links on the index_html page which suppose to use the date_code value which the user typed to display their contents as well, and i have already stored those content in their various folders, but to my surprise when clicked on these links this is the error message i got: Error Type: NameError Error Value: date_code despite the fact that i set the path to those folder that contain the files. Please i need your assistance as soon as posssble. This is the url of the site :http://www.champion-newspapers.com On the home page clicked on archive button, when a newpage is displayed ignore the instruction and press logon button . Another page will be displayed asking you to enter the date code, for the purpose of this test type friday_1008_html and click view button. This will display the teaser archive for the news item, there after try to click on editorial on the left navi you will then see the error, despite the fact that i have the copy of friday_1008_html in the editorial folder. My impression is that since i have been able to use the date_code to display the teaser for the news item, then i should be able to use for all other link items on this page. thanks for your care.
