ZODBC connection in NT
by montagne＠debian1.localdomain.fake 04 Sep '01

I finally got my zope to start as a service in NT and now all my Z ODBC connections are broken. Probably because they were defined as user DSNs. So I redefined them as System DSNs and now they all return "invalid connection string". Is there a trick to this? Any other way than DSN to connect? -- Michael Montagne montagne(a)boora.com http://www.boora.com

Re: [Zope] MySQL or PostGres
by Oliver Bleutgen 04 Sep '01

> Hi, > Which out of MySQL or PostGres would work better with Zope? > Which has the more stable DA and what one should I use in each case? I'm running zope 2.2.2 (previous 2.1.6) with postgres/PoPy as a loginmanager backend for an extranet with 500 users. And zope 2.3.3 for a low traffic portal where all the content comes from postgres and is updated via foxpro/odbc by the client. Both run without any problem since about 10 months - the zopes were update since then. One minor thing with Zpopyda is that I'm not quite sure about which and how the different versions of postgres/popy/zpopy/zope will work together and so updating postgres on a server with multiple zopes using zpopyda could get a bit of a headache. I like postgres very much, so I'm not neutral, but anyway, some advocacy might be in order. There's virtually no limitation of field sizes in postgres 7.1 btw (64 TB table size, 1GB field size, 1600 cols/table ;-) ) > (kinda OT for Zope, but which has the better full-text search capability?) Do you mean fast or flexible? With postgres you can do regexps on text-fields for flexibility, and for speed there is a fulltext tool in the contrib directory of the postgres source. It works in form of a trigger, and uses the same method as zope's catalog (inverted text indexes + stopwords) - I haven't used it myself, though. cheers, oliver

Dear responsible for the zope.org webpage whoever you are, Would it be possible to get to know how many downloads I have on my products? A quick sweep of the log file would tell. No, not just once for me, but it would be an interesting feature for the community to see how many times certain products have been requested. Please please pleeeese. Peter

OpenFlow workflow engine
by Vincenzo Di Somma 04 Sep '01

04 Sep '01

Icube is pleased to announce the availability of OpenFlow 0.4 http://www.zope.org/Members/vds/OpenFlow, the open source workflow engine. Openflow includes the ability to specify multiple maps of activities, support for conditional splits and parallel executions. Each activity can be implemented using every Zope object. A web based management interface completes the engine itself. -- Vincenzo Di Somma - Responsabile Ricerca e Sviluppo - Icube S.r.l. running Zope without an internet connection ...
by ian＠mulvany.net 04 Sep '01

I am trying to learn Zope, and I got the following error when running the startup script: ------ 2001-09-03T23:37:16 PANIC(300) z2 Startup exception Traceback (innermost last): File /usr/local/Zope-2.4.0-linux2-x86/z2.py, line 757, in ? IOError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/usr/local/Zope-2.4.0-linux2-x86/var/Z2.pid' Basically I am a complete beginner and don't know what the problem is, I was wondering if I could run zope devorced from the internet connection so that I could get a handle of running cgi scripts from my own directories and the like before making the work world readable. Any help or pointers to relevant discussion threads or documentation would be really appreciated. -Ian |Ian Mulvany ;0| www.mulvany.net|

Re: [Zope] Disabiling tracebacks

If I examine the HTML source of >that page, I see a Python traceback of the error. > >I would like to disable the Python tracebacks when I would use this >software in production. > I went to zope.org and searched for standard_error_message Two documents which seem helpful: http://www.zope.org/Members/JohnC/StandardErrorMessage seems to be saying that there is no way to stop the tracebacks. Debug mode only makes a difference by showing the traceback or hiding it in HTML comments. If this is true, I figure you could still get around this behaviour by digging around in the source and finding out where the traceback is being sent out. http://www.zope.org/Members/dparker/tracebackcontrol seems to say that you _can_ stop tracebacks, by setting the OS environment variable BOBO_DEBUG_MODE=0 So, I guess I would try that, search the mailing list archives for something (this has probably come up before), hope for a more definitive answer from the list, and finally dig around in the source by grepping for error_message, error_tb, and the exact text that surrounds the commented out tracebacks in your HTML error pages. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp

"Maybe it is time to patch Zope so that it is RFC standards conformant ??" I've posted a small patch on the list yesterday (http://lists.zope.org/pipermail/zope/2001-September/098965.html) manage_workspace verifies the roles against an Anonymous user and thus, it doesn't challenge the browser. The only method I found is to force manage_workspace to verify against an Authenticated user and the problem is gone. I think that it make sense to check the roles of the Authenticated user because by definition, the user must be authenticated to access the ZMI. But on the other hand, I don't know if I've done something wrong.

FWIW, whenever mozilla regresses in this fashion it's called "a bug" and gets fixed pretty quickly.
