by Sylvain Boureliou 04 Sep '01

04 Sep '01

Hi all I would like to create a thumbnail from a jpeg file. Here is the fonction i use : def ThumbNail(self): import Image, os, sys texte = "ok" img = Image.open("essai.jpg") img.thumbnail((50, 50)) img.save('essaiThumbnail.jpg', "JPEG") return texte The file "essai.jpg" is in the Zope directory. It works very well from the Python command line, but it doesn't work when i use it in an external method. Zope finds the file but this error is raised : (i'm using Zope 2.4 win32 - Python 2.1 - PIL 1.1.1) Error Type: IOError Error Value: cannot identify image file .... Problems in updating ZClass instance property sheets
by Per Hörnfeldt 04 Sep '01

04 Sep '01

Hi, In general, the problems concerns updating properties in propertysheets belonging to certain ZClass. We have a dtml-document called "UserRegistration" and a python script called "registerUser". The dtml doc is a form that is filled in with user data. Then the script is called to proccess the data. We are using the standard acl_users for storage of user data. Because we want to have some additional information in the user object (and the acl_user can not be extended with more properties), we are using a product called "userinfo folder" found on www.zope.org. For each acl_user, there will be a zclass instance of UserInfo class in the userinfo folder. So when acl_users.manage_user(...) is run, a userinfo for this object will also be created. The problem appears when we want add the additional information in the userinfo object with the method manage_editProperties. The property belongs to a propertysheet. We get the following error message "you are not authorized to access propertysheets" even though our user is a manager with all rights. And the funny thing is that if we restart the server it executes one time but following attempts fail. The code that breaks looks like: Note that the data is in the request ======== # create the user and save user data context.acl_users.manage_users('Add', request) # save the additional properties for the user in its userinfo instance for object in container.data.user_info.objectValues('UserInfo'): if object.getId() == request.name: object.propertysheets.get('student').manage_editProperties(request) // student is the propertysheet name, it breaks here ======== We are running: Zope 2.4.1 beta 1 UserInfoFolder-1-0-0 http://www.zope.org/Members/did/UserInfoFolder on Windows NT ZClass UserInfo (UserInfo.zexp) and script and DTML-doc (createUser.zexp) are attached. hope you guys can help us. A UserInfoFolder data.user_info instance must be able to aquire in order to be able to execute the code. The entry point is the "userRegistration" DTML Document. /Johan Parmar and Per Hörnfeldt <<createUser.zexp>> <<UserInfo.zexp>> _ _ _ _ _ __________________________ _ _ _ _ _ - - - - ReachIn ---------------------- - - - - ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ ¯ ¯ ¯ Per Hörnfeldt Reachin Technologies AB Årstaängsvägen 24 117 43 Stockholm Sweden Direct: +46 (8) 556 766 19 Phone: +46 (8) 556 766 00 Fax: +46 (8) 556 766 01 mailto:per.hornfeldt@reachin.se Web: www.reachin.se

ZClass derived from Folder, quick question
by complaw＠hal-pc.org 04 Sep '01

04 Sep '01

I have a ZClass that is derived from the Folder object. The product loads into Zope correctly, the meta_type shows up, the manage_add form comes up and loads the object into Zope correctly. However, when I click on the hyperlink to the folder-derived object, I cannot paste objects into it. All it has is the Import/Export button. Not cut, copy, paste, rename, etc. Even when I have objects in the Zope clipboard, the paste button is still not visible/available. Is there some trick to getting this capability? TIA, Ron

When Does ODB Run Out of Steam?
by Dan Shafer 04 Sep '01

I have a client who has an application he wants me to build. I'm going to use Zope. The question is whether I should use the built-in object database or an SQL database. I _vastlly_ prefer the former; I tend to think in objects. Each client object in the system has potentially 350 separate properties. These are entered, reported, and managed through a series of about 12 forms. Some of the forms can be used by the client to create multiple entries of the same type. I can see exactly how to architect this. But my question -- which I can't seem to find an answer to -- is whether there's a practical limit (or a built-in limit) on the number of properties an object can/should have in the Zope built-in object database. (I'm using MetaPublisher to create the interface and the objects if that makes any difference, though I'd be OK with not using it if it turned out that it had a limit.) -- Hire a world-class ghostwriter to create your entire information product line! GUF & SQL login problems
by Milos Prudek 04 Sep '01

04 Sep '01

Hi, I want to set up not-encrypted SQL login, using GenericUserFolder README, a walkthrough and GUF_SQL_crypt howto. After I installed GUF and created GUF-protected folder (i.e. before I made the changes described in GUF_SQL_crypt howto), I was able to log in as jorge:secret. After I made the changes, and try to login using correct username and password, the login dialog always reappears. Login is not possible. There are two things that I had to do differently than described in GUF_SQL_crypt howto: 1) The GenericUserFolder as installed did not flush. It complained about "safty value checkbox". But the manage_cache.dtml was using radiobutton instead of checkbox. So I patched it to use checkbox, and it flushed correctly. 2) I changed the change_password_report, because I do not want to use crypt. But since it is not called when I simply try to login, it should not matter. Anyway, here are my changes: I changed line: <dtml-if "_.crypt.crypt(password,'ab')==_['sequence-item'].real_password"> to this: <dtml-if "password==_['sequence-item'].real_password"> and also I changed this line: <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('password',_.crypt.crypt(first_password,'ab'))"> to this: <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('password',first_password)"> -- Milos Prudek

Internal reference between objects saved in ZODB gets lost?
by Max M 04 Sep '01

04 Sep '01

If I create two objects and saves them with 'setObject' any references between objects is lost. Is that true? Simple stoopid non-working code example:: class test: def __init__(self, id, otherObject=None): self.id = id self.otherObject= otherObject class table(ObjectManager): def __init__(self): object1 = test('1') object2 = test('2', object1) self._setObject('1') self._setObject('2', object2) Do I have to save a reference to another persistent object as an objectManager id instead? Like this: class test: def __init__(self, id, otherObject=None): self.id = id self.otherObject= otherObject class table(ObjectManager): def __init__(self): object1 = test('1') object2 = test('2', '1') self._setObject('1') self._setObject('2', object2) Saving the reference directly is so much easier. But apparantly I get into trouble when I try to. I could save all my data structure in a dict or somesuch structure. This keeps the references intact. But I guess that i will get a nasty growth in Data.fs whenever the object is changed. At least until a packing of the database. Something like:: number of objects * size pr object * times changed This could probebly be a real problem if the object had a size of 500 MBs in all and lots of changes. file upload from python script
by Horst Wald 04 Sep '01

04 Sep '01

Hi, I'm trying to do a file upload from inside a python script that takes the file's path and the target folder object as args. When I try manage_addFile or manage_upload, the content of the new Zope-file is the path of the file I wanted to upload and not the file itself. File upload works fine from a DTML-Method which takes the file's path (and something more I think) from a DTML-Document using a <input type="file">-tag. I found them somewhere in the internet and I'll list them below in case they'll help you helping me. Thanks in advance Horst DTML-Doc "DateiBagger": <html> <h2><dtml-var title_or_id></h2> <table border=0> <form action="SchaufelBagger" enctype="multipart/form-data" method="post"> <tr> <td><b>Datei:</b></td> <td><input type="file" name="DateiName"></td> </tr> <tr><td></td><td> <input type=submit value="HochSchaufeln"></td></tr> </form> DTML-Meth "SchaufelBagger", called by the previous document: <html> <h2><dtml-var document_id></h2> <dtml-let fname="_.string.split(DateiName.filename,'\\')[-1]"> <dtml-with upload> <dtml-if "_.has_key(_['fname'])"> <dtml-call "_[_['fname']].manage_upload(REQUEST.form['DateiName'])"> <p><dtml-var fname> wurde hochgeschaufelt, alte Fassung wurde ersetzt.</p> <dtml-else> <dtml-call "manage_addFile(_['fname'], REQUEST.form['DateiName'])"> <p><dtml-var fname> wurde hochgeschaufelt.</p> </dtml-if> <form action="upload/<dtml-var fname>" method="post"> <input type=submit value="Ansehen"> </form> </dtml-with> </dtml-let> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> </table> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> _________________________________________________________________ Downloaden Sie MSN Explorer kostenlos unter http://explorer.msn.de/intl.asp

Sniff XML-RPC calls
by Peter Bengtsson 04 Sep '01

I'm developing a thing that calls my server via XML-RPC. Everything works fine and all, but now I would like to go a bit more verbose by seeing all the XML strings that are being sent. How can I do that? (pretty newbie to XML-RPC on Zope) peter

Re: Trees Again
by Dieter Maurer 04 Sep '01

04 Sep '01

We usually want questions (and replies) on the mailing list -- for the archives and to help others. paul dunbar writes: > ... number of subordinate documents in tree display ... You have two options: 1 "ZopeFind", described in ZQR (Zope Quick Reference). You would use it like this: <dtml-tree ....> <dtml-var "_.len(ZopeFind(this(), obj_metatypes=[...whatever_you_need...], search_sub=1 #probably, 0 if you only #want the direct children ,))"> .... </dtml-tree> 2 Catalog search. You would use a "PathIndex" (available only for Zope 2.4 and up) search combined with a search for "meta type". The "PathIndex" would restrict the hits to documents below the current path (you would need "URL" and "tree-item-url") to form the subquery term. 1) is easier to implement but probably less efficient than 2.
