ZSyncer and bobobase_modification_time
by Andy McKay 11 Jul '01

For all those who were having problems with ZSyncer and bobobase_modification_time, I believe its because there isnt a bobobase_modification_time for broken products. So if you have any broken products, fix them (on both ends) and ZSyncer should work fine. I'll throw this patch into ZSyncer soon. Is there a sure fire if telling if an object is "broken"? In the meantime heres the patch: --- OldZSyncer.py Tue Jul 10 12:32:38 2001 +++ ZSyncer.py Tue Jul 10 12:30:17 2001 @@ -210,7 +210,8 @@ # go find the folder, then iterate through the subject for ob in self.restrictedTraverse(string.split(folders, '/')).objectValues(): # we dont to sync ZSyncers, that way leads much confusion - if ob.meta_type != 'ZSyncer': + if ob.meta_type != 'ZSyncer': + if ob.meta_type[:14] == 'Broken Because': continue o = {} o['id'] = ob.getId() o['path'] = ob.getPhysicalPath() Cheers. -- Andy McKay.

Z SQL Method Question
by Bruce, Chris 11 Jul '01

11 Jul '01

I am having a problem with Z SQL Method. I am sure it is user (me) error. I created an sql method called "insertUser" to insert users into a table. Everything tests fine within the manager. I tried to create a dtml document containing a form that has the action="insertUser". But when it submits, it prompts me for a password and redirects me to /insertUser/manage_testForm. I am not really sure how I should submit the form and call the insertUser method as an anonymous user outside of the manage interface. Thanks in advance for any help. Works like a charm now. Here is the corrected code: def makeThumbnail(self, original_id, size=128): """ Makes a thumbnail image given an image Id when called on a Zope folder. The thumbnail is a Zope image object that is a small JPG representation of the original image. The thumbnail has a 'original_id' property set to the id of the full size image object. """ from PIL import Image from cStringIO import StringIO import os.path # create a thumbnail image file original_image=getattr(self, original_id) original_file=StringIO(str(original_image.data)) # bug fix here image=Image.open(original_file) image=image.convert('RGB') image.thumbnail((size, size)) thumbnail_file=StringIO() image.save(thumbnail_file, "JPEG") thumbnail_file.seek(0) # create an id for the thumbnail path, ext=os.path.splitext(original_id) thumbnail_id=path + '.thumb.jpg' # if there's and old thumbnail, delete it if thumbnail_id in self.objectIds(): self.manage_delObjects(thumbnail_id) # create the Zope image object self.manage_addProduct['OFSP'].manage_addImage(thumbnail_id, thumbnail_file, 'thumbnail image') thumbnail_image=getattr(self, thumbnail_id) # set the 'originial_id' property thumbnail_image.manage_addProperty('original_id', original_id, 'string') _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.

External Method limits
by Lee Harr 11 Jul '01

Hi: I am working through the section of the Zope Book on External Methods (chapter 8: Advanced Zope Scripting -- http://www.zope.org/Members/michel/ZB/ScriptingZope.dtml -- Secton: Using External Methods) There is an example there which uses PIL that I am having some trouble with. Whenever I try to use makeThumbnail on a file which is more than about 60K I get the following error: Error Type: TypeError Error Value: expected string, ImplicitAcquirerWrapper found with this traceback: Traceback (innermost last): File /usr/local/www/Zope/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 223, in publish_module File /usr/local/www/Zope/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 187, in publish File /usr/local/www/Zope/lib/python/Zope/__init__.py, line 221, in zpublisher_exception_hook (Object: Traversable) File /usr/local/www/Zope/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 171, in publish File /usr/local/www/Zope/lib/python/ZPublisher/mapply.py, line 160, in mapply (Object: makeThumbnail) File /usr/local/www/Zope/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 112, in call_object (Object: makeThumbnail) File /usr/local/www/Zope/lib/python/Products/ExternalMethod/ExternalMethod.py, line 262, in __call__ (Object: makeThumbnail) (Info: ((<Folder instance at 8a4cf00>, '002_2.JPG', 128), {}, (128,))) File /usr/local/www/Zope/Extensions/Thumbnail.py, line 18, in makeThumbnail (Object: Traversable) TypeError: (see above) My sense is that I am either running in to limitations on how much processing an External Method is allowed to perform (which I do not believe) or else the cStringIO module uses a different approach with files of a certain size and PIL does not like it. Any wisdom? _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.

I'm stuck getting Zope to start on boot RH7
by Carl David 11 Jul '01

11 Jul '01

subject really says it all. From the command line, in /etc/init.d/ I can execute a script called zope which starts Zope properly (I can see it with ps -ef). Using Control Panel, I've placed zope in the start and stop places properly, and upon boot, there is a message that Zope has been started (OK), but ps -ef tells me that this is not so, i.e., it's been stopped somehow. Can someone suggest things I should do? I got this going on RH6, on a sparc machine, but this is a i386 machine and a slightly higher level of RH. Thanks Carl David david(a)uconnvm.uconn.edu

Converting a string into an object?
by Tommy Johnson 11 Jul '01

11 Jul '01

Hey, here's a situation. services (folder) | |- editable (folder) | | | |- annual (folder) | | | |- Editable_body (method) | | | |- register (folder) | | | |- Editable_body (method) | |- admin (folder) | |- Admin_selectSection (method) |- Admin_editContent (method) Admin_selectSection contains a form that asks a user what section they want to edit. <form action="Admin_editContent"> Select a section to edit: <br><br> <select name="sectionId" size="1"> <dtml-with editable> <dtml-in objectValues> <option value="<dtml-var id>"><dtml-var title></option> </dtml-in> </dtml-with> </select> <br><br> <input type="submit" name="submit" value=" Edit this Section "> </form> Now, Admin_editContent receives this info and should build a form that shows the title and text of the Editable_body method. This should function pretty much like the ZMI. The problem is that I can't seem to access the Editable_body method. In fact, if I were to put in: <dtml-in objectValues><dtml-var id><br></dtml-in> I get a list of the folders inside 'editable', and NOT what I expected - a list of what is contained within the folder 'annual'. ( or 'register' - depending on which was selected previously). If I were to print out the form variable: <dtml-var expr="REQUEST.form['sectionId']"> I get 'annual', but it's a string. So, I guess I need to convert it to an object BEFORE my objectValues will work?? And, if that is the case, how do I do that? Is there some sort of restore method that I could use? The second form is included below, just in case you wanna see it for somethin' <dtml-with editable> <dtml-with expr="REQUEST.form['sectionId']"> <form action="Admin_action"> Title: <input name="title" size="20"> <br><br> <textarea name="txtContent" cols="40" rows="7" wrap="virtual"></textarea> <br><br> <input type="submit" name="submit" value=" Save Changes "> </form> </dtml-with> </dtml-with> Sorry for the novel, and thanks in advance, Tommy Innovation: The Best Way To Predict The Future ... Is To Create It.

print results from a datrabase query
by Terry McKenna 11 Jul '01

11 Jul '01

I am trying to query a field in a database then print the output in both an email and an html file. It looks like I am getting the memory address of the Z SQL method instead of the value returned by the query. -Thanks in advance --------------------------- Called from the input form: --------------------------- "processTicket" method <dtml-call newTicket> # "newTicket" makes an entry to a MySQL database with the users input from the form. <dtml-call maxTicketNumQuery> # "maxTicketNumQuery" gets the MAX from the database. (see below) <body bgcolor=white> <dtml-sendmail mailhost="mailhost"> To:<dtml-var webmaster> From:<dtml-var email> Subject: Trouble Ticket A Trouble Ticket was submitted by <dtml-var name> at <dtml-var ZopeTime>. Ticket Number <dtml-var maxTicketNumQuery> (I don't think this part is right. I tried to <dtml-call maxTicketNumQuery> but that didn't work either) Description of Problem: <dtml-var problem> </dtml-sendmail> <dtml-var standard_html_header> <p> Thank you <dtml-var name>. An E-Mail will be sent to you soon for reference. Your ticket number is <dtml-var maxTicketNumQuery>. <p> Someone will be in contact with you soon. <p> To return to the main page, click logo. ----------------------------------- Called from "processTicket" method: ----------------------------------- "maxTicketNumQuery" Z SQL method: select MAX(ticketNum) from ticket3 # called from "processTicket" method. I am trying to get the results of the "ticketNum" filed in the database. I DO NOT have "ticketNum" defined as an argument in the Z SQL method. I'm not sure if it should be. Either way, I get the same error. This is the output from the email that is sent once a ticket has been entered. ------------------------------------------------- A Trouble Ticket was submitted by Foo Man Chew at 2001/07/10 15:53:24.7536 GMT-4. Ticket Number <Shared.DC.ZRDB.Results.Results instance at 8728218> Description of Problem: server crash --------------------------------------------------- Instead of the <Shared.DC*> output, I would like the result of the "maxTicketNumQuery", which should be an integer value like 29. Also, I have read most of the Zope book. It's a little over my head. Can anyone point me to a Zope database document written at the beginner level? __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get personalized email addresses from Yahoo!
