I think one has to differ the types of potential clients, and they are not always recognizable by the size of their company. 1. Nearly no technical knowledge, don't know words like "application server", know names like IBM or Microsoft, but only MS is more familiar because they use their desktop OS and office applications. Their motivation is to either a) Get their first web-presence b) Revamp their existing (static) web-presence because they think its to ugly and/or they want to get new functionality like putting in content by themselves. 2. Some IT knowledge, they have already a web-presence but got burned (their agency charges the big bucks for just changing telephone numbers), and are critical because of that. 3. Good IT knowledge, are able to do a lot by themselves, often just lack the time or design capabilities to do their own web presence. Only types 2 and 3 will question the choice of the underlying plattform. And it's often not the decision makers who will do that, but the IT personnel. And it helps a lot to first try to gain ground with the decision makers, because an open minded (because his boss told him to be open minded) IT expert can really be persuaded to see zope's strength. This gets me to the point of my drivel: What do others think of the idea of a glossy brochure (like 4 pages) which can be used as a handout about zope for decision makers? Nothing academic, just pure marketing speak. Heavy on buzzwords, short on (technical) information, but nice to look at. It should be downloadable from zope.org as a photoshop document, with layers etc. fully intact. Perhaps with some blank space (one page), so that everyone could include company specific information, perhaps not. Then everyone who wants to could just use that to produce zope-specific marketing material. Mind you, I don't want to say that DC should produce that, I guess more people in this list have graphic designers in their company. cheers, oliver

ZPT: ready for prime time?

Hello Zopistas, we are before a big redesign of our Zope Site http://www.european-e-business.com The complete Look&Feel will be changed and we will switch from the Zope oldie 2.1.6 to the latest Zope version. The GUI will be developed with DreamWeaver. We are currently facing the following decision: * do we use ZPT/XHTML for presentation or * do we stick with the familiar DTML The designer told us, he (and his tool) can handle both. Thus, it boilds down to: ZPT/XHTML DTML modern approach in the future, probably only investment in the future used in niches in flux, probably unstable stable, we know its strengthes/weaknesses maybe, missing features (e.g. batching) poor documentation quite well documented by now e.g. loop variables, TALES variables What are your experiences? dtml-tree problems and/or bugs ?

Hi ! The tree tag gives me two problems. Everything works fine, but: (1) when I select the 'Expand All' link, the page is rendered incomplete. For some reason, the standard_html_footer is not rendered. In Netscape this ends with the complete page not showing, because the closing tags at the page's end are missing :-( (2) Some of the folders have access restrictions. When I move the header, '<h2><dtml-var title></h2>' down below the tables encapsulating the tree, I get a login prompt. That means that Zope tries to retrieve the 'title' from another entity than the current folder, which is unrestricted. Looks like some variable(s) are lingering with values from the tree-tag operation. Has anybody experienced such results ? Thank you, Stefan.

In fact, they are good for IT people, but most decision makers wont understand them. Have a look at the Windows XP and Office XP marketing. It is the same content as it was for Windows 95, 98 and ME: They claim that you can connect to the internet (wow!) and that it is intuitive. Using zope - how to host?

I was wondering what people do for hosting Zope? I am helping out with a non-profit's web site. I'd like to use Zope to try to provide better/faster control by the 4-5 individuals providing content but how do I host the beast? The service that is hosting their static HTML pages now has never heard of Zope. I see a number of organizations listed on the zope.org web site that say they host Zope but was wondering if anyone on the mailing list has recommendations or suggestions. HELP! Opera 5.02 killing zope

I am not sure why and every other browser seems to work just fine but when opera 5.02 for windows makes a request on my zope box by trying to submit a form the zope server starts to grow at about 10M/s. In the debug screen I can see ZPublisher.cgi.FieldStorage growing 235000 entries in about 20 seconds. rfc822.Message also grows up to about 235000 entries also. Everything else seems perfectly normal. I have tested opera on linux without problems along with lynx, links, IE, netscape, mozilla etc with no problems.
