I'm replying to the list as well so that everybody can read and comment. I don't pretend to speak with any authority wrt Zope, and need peer review to keep from becoming a gigantic liar. I wish there were a builtin way to integrate builtin property sheets, both inherited and peer, because that would greatly simplify maintenance of ZClass management stuff. But there isn't, and here's the setup when you're making custom "property sheets": (I'm not claiming this is the best design, but here goes...) --You have a dtml method with the requisite HTML form for your properties in your product folder and in your ZClass. I don't think acquisition helps us here. --You have several property sheets, either inherited or defined, that you want in a unified interface. --You have a ZClass-made add method in your product folder (a constructor). --You have an edit method in your ZClass. In the add/edit form, the action for the Submit button should be the add or edit method, depending on where it is. The names of the form elements (HTML inputs) should be the names of the properties in your property sheets you want to add/change. When you submit this form, the method it is submitted to gets a REQUEST object with keys named for the form elements, each associated with the value in the element when the form was submitted. You can see these in the URL line when you submit with GET. So it comes to the add method, which creates a new object in the dtml-with, then works in its namespace. While in the new object's namespace you can: --set the properties of your property sheets. Call "propertysheets.PROPERTYSHEETNAME.manage_changeProperties(REQUEST)" for each property sheet. You are handing the REQUEST that your form gave you to this method, which will then change all the attributes in its property sheet that match keys in the REQUEST to the values that those keys correspond to. Read the ZClass source to see exactly how. The edit method is little less kind, and DC folks have said that it's not meant for public consumption. --set it to be aware of a non-default Catalog: use dtml-call with manage_editCataloger to set it, and the call index to add it. (I think editCataloger should do this itself. Perhaps someone could tell me why I shouldn't patch it to index to a new catalog if the catalog actually changes.) This should be done after the properties are changed. Typically you then redirect to whatever page should come after clicking submit. The ZClass constructor does this for you. You will do the same thing in your edit method, except you will not make a new object, and you're already in the appropriate namespace. You can do this in a DTML method patterened after the ZClass constructor, but this is where PythonScripts are good. Payment Processors.

I mentioned the other day that the company I work for makes a modular interface for payment processors. We are also integrating paypal, a few other sites that operate like it. I have python code that one of our developers wrote to integrate out solution into a python site. I am still fumbling my way though phython and ZOPE, but this can be code that will be useful to people wishing to have transactions through their sites. Would anyone be interested in helping me develop a zope module from the code. Basically I would like to see this available to all platforms. if you decide to change payment processors you simply drop in the new files get a new key and you are now up and running with a new processor. no coding or fiddling. I posted the python snippet if anyone is interested in starting ahead of me. Rick This is example code for implementing an oPAYc transaction using Python. (Python v1.5.2 on Linux-2.2-i386-glibc2.1). The code snippet should work on any version of Unix. The modules "DateTime" and "ODBC" must be installed. The ODBC.unixODBC module does not come within the ODBC package, and the existing ODBC.iODBC one must be modified to link to unixODBC's libraries. Also the include paths must be changed to those of unixODBC's include directory. ZPT - equivalent of dtml-unless

Hi all, I have a ZPT page which can optionally get a parameter, dn, which gets used in a call to a Script (Python). If I was doing this with DTML, I would use something like, <dtml-unless dn> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('dn','o=cm')"> </dtml-unless> to set a default value for dn. However I can't quite figure out how to set default values for vars in a ZPT page. The best I've come up with so far is this: <span metal:fill-slot="userList_slot" tal:content="structure python:here.userList(dn=request.dn)" tal:on-error="structure python:here.userList(dn=None)">User List goes here</span> Which is fine if there is only one var but what if there are more? From database to acl_users

Hi, I know how to get users/passwords/roles in straight Python/mxOdbc from a corporate database. I want to give Zope permissons to those users in addition to those from the "acl_users" folder. Means that when a user logs for basic authentication, it's credentials must be compared with "natural" acl_user folder then with this database. Any idea or related product ? TIA. --Gilles

in/let not working as expected

on Zope 2.3.3 binary on windows -- <dtml-in objectValues skip_unauthorized> <dtml-let obj=sequence-item> <dtml-var getId> </dtml-let> </dtml-in> try this in your / and it will error on the standard_error_message (thats what teh Error Type business is about). Q: if I do this with DTML Method it screws up. It appears that DTML Methods (when in objectValues) will call themselves on <dtml-let obj=sequence-item>, which is unexpected? I would expect that obj would *only* get a refernce to sequence-item is this the only gotcha using in/let together? am i diagnosing this correctly? thanks, ~runyaga

(Note that it is not edit but change that you should use.) You would have five of these, one for each property sheet. All attibutes in the property sheet matching a key from the REQUEST will be updated with the value from the REQUEST associated with the key. I do this in a PythonScript, but it should work with dtml-call as well. Also, unless you're changing the default catalog of a (presumably) CatalogAware object, with manage_editCataloger, I don't think you need to reindex. And if you do, it should go after you change the properties. And it should probably be a plain index, since it never was in that catalog in the first place. At least that's what work for me. --jcc (yay objects!)

Right on time! I was just looking at zwiki this and zfishbowl that trying to find something *new* because the old docs make me want to wait and see if they ever implement the same *features* into DTML. DTML hurt so good. I'm afraid if I go after ZPT I'm going to start looking at chains and leather in a whole new light. Yes it looks good on the surface, but to me it hurts like heck trying to figure out what it does. Thanks for the effort people. -Jimbo

ZPT - using templates based on variables

This would open up the possibilities no end, imagine skins using ZPT. Anyone have any ideas? Phil
