HELP! Opera 5.02 killing zope
by kosh＠aesaeion.com 24 Jun '01

24 Jun '01

I am not sure why and every other browser seems to work just fine but when opera 5.02 for windows makes a request on my zope box by trying to submit a form the zope server starts to grow at about 10M/s. In the debug screen I can see ZPublisher.cgi.FieldStorage growing 235000 entries in about 20 seconds. rfc822.Message also grows up to about 235000 entries also. Everything else seems perfectly normal. I have tested opera on linux without problems along with lynx, links, IE, netscape, mozilla etc with no problems. Zope 2.3.3 Python 1.5.2 on a Redhat 7.1 machine Thanks Designing the webpages of tomorrow http://webme-eng.com Designing the MMORPGS of tomorrow http://worldforge.org

syntax of ExtImage
by Mike Bunyan 24 Jun '01

24 Jun '01

I have been unable to follow the syntax of ExtImage class When called in the same folder in which it exists <dtml-var mgscrdrbit.png> returns <ExtImage instance at 019D8AD0> but I am unable to get img html string result in the form: <img src="http://localhost:8080/04_es/mgscrdrbit.png" border="0" alt="descrip" height="99" width="100"> by using something like <img src=<dtml-var mgscrdrbit.png>> in addition, if called from lower down the tree, giving the absolute pathname <dtml-var /04_es/mgscrdrbit.png> or <dtml-var '/97_swi/bubardot.gif'> produces Error Type: KeyError Error Value: '/97_swi/bubardot.gif' and This resource may be trying to reference a nonexistent object or variable '/97_swi/bubardot.gif'. on the other hand <dtml-in "PARENTS[0].objectValues(['ExtImage'])"> produces all the information Grateful for any guidance as the help file covers alll the arguements, but no obvious (to me) dtml syntax.

Re: [Zope] A Tale from IBM land...

Interesting discussion! Perhaps this is an area where the local Zope User Groups should take the initiative? (and then zope.org can just point to the LUGs' info?) One of the proposed functions of the fledgling UK Group is to post on our site a list of sites that are using Zope in the UK, and a list of companies/freelancers who offer services. Case-studies showing the "business case" rather than the "technical case" are another possibility. The resources and case studies provided by DC are a great start, but (particularly outside the US), you can't beat local examples! I like Oliver's idea of a downloadable skeleton-brochure too. Maybe the "marketing of Zope" should be approached in the same open-source fashion as the technical-development? I think more non-techies are joining the club, and this is one way they can feel like they have contributed something back to the community? HTH Cheers, Jon ----------------------------------------------------------- > 2) That there are hundreds of consultants familiar with Zope/[insert > other open source solution here] that can take over that 100% > when the one who sold it to you goes out of business. This > is also a marketing problem. > t'would be lovely if there were some statistics on the zope.org site to point at to help salve management's fears. the arguments often go along the lines of "where do we get qualified developers" and "they've got to be more expensive" yadda yadda yadda...

A date type for ZSQLMethods?
by Neil Burnett 24 Jun '01

24 Jun '01

Frequently, I need the following syntax in ZSQLMethods: <dtml-sqlvar LastModified type="date"> ^^^^ Where LastModified is a string suitable for conversion to a DateTime instance and #mm/dd/yyyy hh:mm:ss# is returned. I am getting there by using: <dtml-var expr="_.DateTime(LastModified).strftime('#%m/%d/%y %H:%M:%S#')"> but it took forever to work that out (with loads of help from people on this list - thanks). Is this a sensible addition to the ZSQLMethod product, or is there a better way that I have missed? If so, would I patch the original (not my idea of fun:-) or subclass SQLVar? As a member of the Python illiterati - I've got the Programming Python book, but haven't fully grasped it yet - I wouldn't mind some clues on how to do this. Not urgent, of course. Regards Neil

Restrict object list in folderish product, it works, but how?
by Rene Pijlman 24 Jun '01

24 Jun '01

Last week I asked on this list how to develop a folderish Python-based product, and how to use ZPT's in a product. Based on the answers and examples I received I've created three new mini how-to's: Develop a folderish Python-based product: http://www.zope.org/Members/rpijlman/FolderishProduct Restrict the available objects list of a Python-based folderish product: http://www.zope.org/Members/rpijlman/FolderishProduct/RestrictAvailableObjec ts Use page templates in a Python-based product: http://www.zope.org/Members/rpijlman/ZPTInProduct There is still one piece of code that I don't understand. To restrict the list of addable objects, in the folderish object I override all_meta_types inherited from ObjectManager. This method returns a tuple of dictionaries. Every dictionary contains the name of the object and the method the ZMI must invoke to create an instance. return ({'name':'Foo', 'action':'manage_addProduct/FolderishProductDemo/addFooForm'}, (Full source code on http://www.zope.org/Members/rpijlman/FolderishProduct/RestrictAvailableObjec ts) I've copied the idea from the Mailbag product. It works, but what is this manage_addProduct/... method? What does it do precisely? Why can't ZMI call addFooForm directly? Can someone shed some light on this? Regards, René Pijlman
