i was trying to explain acquisition yesterday to some members of the LA ZUG (http://www.lazug.org) and consistently felt like i was shooting myself in the head. so i spent some time this morning and played around with it and wrote up the attached, to try and explain acquisition to people. hopefully it will be useful to the zope community at large. if there are any mistakes in it or anyone wants to comment, feel free to email me. cheers Kapil

using zope to index/search non-zope site?
by Kelley 22 Jun '01

22 Jun '01

Hi, I do not know much about indexing sites but after setting up a Zope search of a Zope site, I began to wonder if anyone was using Zope to index and search non-Zope sites. I have this other site served on Apache and Linux and am wondering if I can set up a server to search/index its content. Otherwise I can look for a search provider of some sort, but the site is big enough that they would want to charge me money which I don't have. If anyone has ideas on this please let me know. Sean

Zope + iPlanet 4.1 + NT
by CTP 22 Jun '01

Thanks in advance for any help. Does anyone have any experience getting Zope to work with iPlanet 4.1 Web Server on NT? I have used Zope in standalone and Apache+Proxy+Zope configurations, but I have never used pcgi. Is there any way to get Zope to work with iPlanet without using pcgi?

"Document" assembly with Zope
by complaw＠hal-pc.org 22 Jun '01

22 Jun '01

Has anyone brought up the subject of "document assembly" where, for example, a folder contains a series of DTML documents with, for example, a text property that contains html code (or RTF code). Moreover, there would be a heirarchy of folders with similar DTML documents that, upon invoking a Python script, would take (sequentially and recursively) all of the text properties of all of the DTML documents and then create one huge HTML (or whatever) file that is returned to the user? The folders would be akin to chapters in a book and the DTML documents would be like sections within a chapter. I know that Zope has the ability to help navigate through something like this (dtml-tree). Hoewever, I don't know how to write a Python script that could recursively go through a set of folders (from some base folder) and do the necessary pre- and post-processing (led alone return that to the user). Incidentally, this would greatly facilitate a collaborative creation of a document via the web (using FTP and WebDAV). Something akin to a CVS for documents. Even better, because once the document is finished, you can change the permissions so that it "freezes" the text. A new base folder can be used for later "versions" of the text and logic in the base folder (that contains the various version) could be used to find differences between the two versions. Has anyone seen something like that for Zope or know where to begin? Cheers, Ron

Transparent folders, CookieCrumbler, ZDebug
by Shane Hathaway 22 Jun '01

22 Jun '01

A new release of Transparent folders is ready. The only real difference is compatibility with Zope 2.3.3. http://www.zope.org/Members/hathawsh/TransparentFolders CookieCrumbler has been re-released independently of CMF. Thanks to living in the CMF for a while, the security hole has been fixed, it tries hard not to mess up WebDAV and FTP, the cookie setting is configurable with scripts, and default login and logout forms are now included. http://www.zope.org/Members/hathawsh/CookieCrumbler ZDebug is currently not compatible with Zope 2.4.x. I'll work on it soon. Shane

No redirect on folder manage_editProperties
by Ken Dobruskin 22 Jun '01

22 Jun '01

My fellow Zopistas, I did something 'quick and dirty' with Zope. Wishing to use my client's existing members database, and not succeeding at adding Zclass instances programatically, I just took their big table of data, massaged it into XML and uploaded it with XML2Zope. Pasting a dtml doc, 'content_html' into each folder (to display the properties) and renaming the folders were mindless chores; I added a ZCatalog, and presto! my first Zope web site. Now for my punishment... Actually, all I want to do is allow the members to update their folder properties, but without redirecting to the ZMI. Yet, unlike with Zclasses, the standard folder manage_editProperties method doesn't seem like a good 'customisation target'. How should this be done?

Help me !!! Problems installing Zope Perl !!!
by Gianluca Pacchioni 22 Jun '01

22 Jun '01

Hi everybody, I'm looking for help 'cause I have no idea on what's wrong. I'm trying to install Zope Perl on Windows following andym's How-To, but I have some problems. When I run this command: D:\Temp\pyperl-1.0.1\Python-Object>perl makefile.pl I obtain this output: Picking up pyton include files from "C:\Programmi\Zope\bin\include" Checking if your kit is complete... Looks good Note (probably harmless): No library found for '../perlpyd.lib' Writing Makefile for Python::Object It doesn't find perlpyd.lib, is it normal? And more, it's really harmless? Anyway, it makes the makefile, but when I run this command: D:\Temp\pyperl-1.0.1\Python-Object>nmake install this is the result: ... ... ... Creating library blib\arch\auto\Python\Object\Object.lib and object blib\arch \auto\Python\Object\Object.exp Object.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol _newPerlPyObject_noinc Object.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol _sv2pyo Object.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol _get_thread_ctx Object.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol _vtbl_free_pyo Object.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol _pyo2sv Object.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol _PerlPyObject_pyo Object.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol _PerlPyObject_pyo_or_null Object.obj : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol _newPerlPyObject_inc blib\arch\auto\Python\Object\Object.dll : fatal error LNK1120: 8 unresolved exte rnals NMAKE : fatal error U1077: 'link' : return code '0x460' Stop. I repeated the procedure explained in the How-to many and many times, but nothing... always same errors. Please, any idea about the problem? I'm giving up!!! This is my configuration: Windows 2000 Professional Zope 2.3.2 Python 1.5.2 (final) ActivePerl 5.6.1.626 Distutils 1.0.1 pyperl 1.0.1 zoperl 1.0.beta5 Thanks for every suggestion, Gianluca

Help with drill down SQL queries
by Mark Langkau 22 Jun '01

22 Jun '01

Hi, Rather than reinvent the wheel, I'll ask here to see if anyone has done this before. I'd like to have an SQL query return data that I will display in a table format. Lets say this will include columns such as Customer Number, Order Number, Part Number, etc. I would like to add "drill down" capabilities to this by having each cell in a column be a link to another query/result table that uses the cell contents as a parameter for the query. For example, if the Customer column displays each customer number as a link, I could get a page showing all orders placed by this customer by clicking on that customer's link in this table. I would like the solution to be generalized so a developer/designer can indicate which columns in the result should have "links" turned on. For example, if I click on the Customer Number link in this table, I get a page with another table listing customer order numbers, dates, totals, etc. and the Order Number column in that table has "links" turned on so I can click an order number link and get another table showing complete details for that order. ( And then click on a Part Number, to get details of the product ...) This sounds simple. Format the contents of the column as a link and call another predefined query object with the cell contents as a parameter. But, I haven't really worked with SQL queries in Zope and I'm not sure where to start. I have successfully installed the DCOracle2 product (and similar MySQL) and have the test queries working. I am also reading the Relational Database chapter of the Zope Book. Oracle's WebDB product does this, and we are looking to work completely within Zope as much as possible. We will be querying Oracle 8 databases mostly, but will also like to use this with MySQL (and PostgreSQL). Cheers, Mark
