problem with dtml-var displaying None for NULL from postgres
by Chris Kratz 08 Jun '01

08 Jun '01

Hello all, Up until this week, we were running Zope on a windows ME box against an access database using ODBC for our first stage of development. Now, I have migrated the database and the zope instance over to a Linux box running Red Hat 7.1, Zope 2.3.2, Python 1.5.2, PostgreSQL 7.1, with the PoPy 2.0.1/ZPoPyDA 1.2 connecting everything up and we are running successfully. My question is this: we have quite a large number of pages where we use the <dtml-var> tag to dump a field from the database (after a select). On the previous setup, when the field was NULL in the database, the var tag happily did nothing. Now, on the new server, if a Null is found, it prints out None instead of nothing. For now, I am manually modifying the pages and wrapping each of the var tags with an if tag like this: <dtmil-if field><dtml-var field></dtml-if> which gives the expected behavior. This works, but is time consuming. I have examined each of the pieces (Zope/ZPoPyDA/PoPy/PostgreSQL) and cannot find an easy way to change this behavior. After reading some related information on the mailing list, I think the culprit is most likely the DA. Unfortunately, I was not successfull in installing the psycopg DA and the current version of egenics mxDateTime so I cannot compare the two DA's (ZPoPyDA and psycopgDA). Is this expected behavior? Is the Zope 2.3.2, Python 1.5.2, ZODBCDA, MSAccess configuration simply different in some aspect? Why are we getting different behaviors with everything the same except a different database? If there is no way around this, is there a faster/better way to modify the pages so that they don't display anything for a NULL field? Thanks for your help, -Chris

Not from ZMI. You can write a hotfix product: http://www.zope.org/Members/Caseman/Dynamic_Hotfix It works great for me. I use hotfixes to propagate my changes to ZMI across many versions. RE: [Zope] setting 'arguments' string dynamically in a ZSQL metho d

Holger- this still appears to have fixed variable names- my variable names are dynamic, based on sql column names so I can't predefine their existance in the ZSQL 'arguments' box- this is my qryInsert object as of tonight (this morning) - it would work in the proper namespace- field is a sql column, as in 'firstname' or 'address'. _[field] is then its value, which is set in a previous http post form- the ZSQL method bombs out when it can't see the post variables INSERT into <dtml-var sqlvarTable> ( <dtml-in "qryShowColumns(sqlvarTable=sqlvarTable)"> <dtml-if sequence-end> <dtml-var field> <dtml-else> <dtml-var field>, </dtml-if> </dtml-in> ) VALUES ( <dtml-in "qryShowColumns(sqlvarTable=sqlvarTable)"> <dtml-if sequence-end> <dtml-sqlvar "_[field]" type=string> <dtml-else> <dtml-sqlvar "_[field]" type=string>, </dtml-if> </dtml-in> ) Chas. -----Original Message----- From: Holger Lehmann [mailto:lehmann@catworkx.de] Sent: Friday, June 08, 2001 3:38 AM To: Chas Wareing; 'zope(a)zope.org' Subject: Re: [Zope] setting 'arguments' string dynamically in a ZSQL method Hi Chas, why not trying this: (assuming three hardcoded parameters) <dtml-in "YourSQLMethod(param1=value1,param2=value2,param3=None)"> and another time: <dtml-in "YourSQLMethod(param1=value5,param2=_['variable10'],param3=value4)"> with something like this in your ZSQLMethod: params: param1, param2, param3 sql (warning untested): <dtml-if "param3!='None'"> select * from foo where ..... <dtml-else> select * from bar where .... </dtml-if> **and** set the advanced setting " max rows retreived " to 0 (zero) to stop the ZSQLMethod from appending SQL code to your statement dynamically. - Holger Am Freitag, 8. PythonScript -> List item is out of range
by olpa＠sybcom.de 08 Jun '01

08 Jun '01

Hi: I wrote this PythonScript: s1 = { 'a': 1, 'b': 0 } s2 = { 'a': s1['a'] and s1['b'] } return s2 and Zope does not accept this. Zope returns directly a list item is out of range... When I replace the 'and' by '+', then everything is ok! setting 'arguments' string dynamically in a ZSQL method
by Chas Wareing 08 Jun '01

08 Jun '01

I've been spending way too much time on this-- I'd like to set the 'arguments' string while calling a ZSQL method instead of hardcoding it on the method- my variable names are dynamic a namespace hack or zsql product patch would be appreciated- I'm using this for a generic/reusable qryInsert object- Chas. <c3w(a)ISP.NET> ISP Networks, Inc.

Help with LoginManager
by Jeremiah White 08 Jun '01

I am a new Zope user and I'm having trouble installing LoginManager. I am running Windows ME. First, I can't even unpack 0.8.8b1, so I used 0.8.6. I then unpacked LoginManager in my ZopeFolder... and then I was lost. I'm sorry this is such a basic question, but I can't seem to find any help for this. Thanks, JeremiahGet more from the Web. Hi, Some of you may remember me from a posting I made in March about free copies of "The Zope Book." While that book is coming off press very soon (July 20 to be exact and I still have the people I promised those copies to) I thought many of you would like to know that David Beazley's Python book - "Python Essential Reference, Second Edition" is just now coming off the printer. (Many of you are familiar with his first edition.) This new edition has been updated for Python 2.1. I'd like to offer 1 free copy to the first 10 people who email me with their interest and mailing address. All I ask in return is that you post your review of the book on amazon.com and fatbrain.com. Look forward to hearing from you. Cheers, Stephanie Wall Executive Editor New Riders Publishing PS. Some of you may also be interested in two other books that are just now coming off press. They are: -"Advanced Linux Programming" by Mark Mitchell, Alex Samuel and Jeffrey Oldham from CodeSourcery, LLC and -"Berkeley DB" by Sleepycat Software.
