Getting calling folder data into a ZClass addForm
by complaw＠hal-pc.org 08 Jun '01

08 Jun '01

Is there any way for the addForm DTML Method for a ZClass to know what folder it was called from so that some DTML logic can be implemented to load certain data (for properties) into the input elements of the HTML form used to load the initial data into the soon-to-be created object instance? Is the context object available in the standard ZClass addForm? I want to make a generalized ZClass that references other class instances that exist within the calling folder (and no where else). The references, preferrably, would be stored in a list property of the object. The alternative is to make ZClasses for each specific folder (with boolean properties relating indicating relationship with the other object(s) in the folder). I would like to avoid the alternative because it is more maintenance. Does anyone use a mechanism for maintaining relationships between some (but not all) objects in a folder in some object for dynamic referencing? When you think about it, there is a lot of utility if someone can work out this trick. Thanks in advance, Ron

RE: [Zope] Help with LoginManager

Become familiar with the procedure for installing a product. You will do it many times when using zope. First, check for a folder in Program Files/Zopesite/lib/python/Products/LoginManager/. It should have been created by unpacking LM. You will also need ZPatterns which comes with LM IIRC. ZPatterns needs DynPersist.dll, which you can get pre compiled for win32 platforms here: http://zope.nipltd.com/public/lists/dev-archive.nsf/ByKey/CF999B6A9B3C5C68 If after you do this and restart Zope, you still have problems, let us know. I am running Windows ME. First, I can't even unpack 0.8.8b1, so I used 0.8.6. I then unpacked LoginManager in my ZopeFolder... and then I was lost. I'm sorry this is such a basic question, but I can't seem to find any help for this. Thanks, Jeremiah

ZClass with binary fields
by Klaus Herrmann 08 Jun '01

08 Jun '01

Hi! I want to have special folders and documents to which i can attach binary data, e.g. pdfs, wavs etc.. how can i create a ZClass with a field for binary data? the second problem ois more difficult: the zclass has to be capable of carrying an unlimited number of attachments. so either add_property for a new attachment has to be possible, or the data has to be stored in an array. any ideas how this could be done? thanks in advance! processing checkbox parameters - browser differences
by Sandy Britain 08 Jun '01

08 Jun '01

Hi all, My problem is this: I have a dtml method needs to pick up the values ONLY of checked checkboxes in an html form whose names are the ID's of objects users want to edit or delete. So the idea is that the object ids are passed to the method with the Request object and the appropriate objects can then be deleted or opened for editing in another html form. This works great in netscape 4.x but it doesn't work in IE 5 - it doesn't appear to be returning the checkboxes with the REQUEST - or perhaps not picking up that any are checked. Here is the code from the method that processes the form' action: <dtml-in "REQUEST.form.items()"> <dtml-let request_item_id=sequence-key> <dtml-in "objectValues('myObjectType')"> <dtml-if expr="id == request_item_id"> Do some stuff to the object here </dtml-if> </dtml-in> </dtml-let> </dtml-in> ------------------------------------------ Here is the code that instantiates the checkbox: <TD> <input type=checkbox name=<dtml-var id> value=1></TD> Anyone know how to deal with this? return a value from python script
by S.Morris 08 Jun '01

08 Jun '01

Hi, I have a master detail form which is sent to a python script. The detail part of the form uses the records converters. The python script works ok and the records are updated in a MySQL database. #contact ----- inserts master record ----- context.StaffInsertMethod() ----- inserts detail records ----- for x in contact: name = x['name'] job = x['job'] context.ContactInsertMethod(name=name, job=job) return 'ok' How can I respond to the 'ok' that is returned in a DTML document? Calling the script from a DTML document returns exactly the same thing as calling the script directly from the form. -- ------------ S.Morris

Using REQUEST only in a limited fashion
by Anders Schneiderman 08 Jun '01

I want to create a standard index page that can be easily overridden. I've set up index_html to point to standard_index, which looks like this: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- <dtml-var standard_html_header> <dtml-with portal_properties> <dtml-if front_page> <dtml-var front_page> <dtml-else> <font size="+1">Click on the item you wish to view:</font> <dtml-var liststuff> </dtml-if> </dtml-with> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This works fine except for an obvious problem. Let's say I'm in the healthcare/nurses folder. If the healthcare folder contains the front_page Method, then healthcare/nurses will end up using it too. I don't want that to happen; I only want to show front_page in a folder that contains it. How do I do that? I could use REQUEST only, but so far I haven't figured out how. Is there a way to put it into the dtml-if statement? The only examples I could find on the Zope site used <dtml-with REQUEST only>, but that will cause the call to <dtml-var liststuff> to blow up because it's only looking in the requesting folder. What's the best way around this? And if it's too much of a pain to do in a DTML Method, how about in Python? Thanks, Anders Schneiderman Information Manager SEIU International P.S. Part of the reason I want to figure this out is that I'm going to elaborate on this scheme. For example, I'm going to add some code to standard_index so that if the requesting folder contains a DTML Method called "blurb", it'll display the blurb followed by the list of files. In short, I want to create several ways of letting users customize a particular folder's display depending on their level of skill.

PAM + ZOPE

Salve, I just trying to figure out if PAM (Pluggable Authentication Modules) + Zope is working. I am especially interested in the combination with LDAP. Anybody tried this already? The only thing I could find is quite old: http://lists.zope.org/pipermail/zope-dev/1999-October/001831.html cheers Damir

RE: [Zope] transaction control from Zope to Postgresql?
by Farrell, Troy 08 Jun '01

08 Jun '01

What DA are you using? I use PoPy and ZPoPyDA. It appears (I haven't verified it) that it rolls back all the ZSQLMethods executed between pageviews. Troy -----Original Message----- From: Reinoud van Leeuwen [mailto:reinoud@xs4all.nl] Sent: Friday, June 08, 2001 6:40 AM To: zope(a)zope.org Subject: [Zope] transaction control from Zope to Postgresql? Hello world, I am in need for a way to explicitely contral transaction behaviour for a group of inserts in a postgresql database. The DTML script I use first inserts a header record and after that some detail records. The postgresql function that does the inserts might return an errorstring. So I tried the following code (simplified for readability) <dtml-try> <dtml-call "sql_to_insert_head_record (some_parameters)"> <dtml-in "a_loop_over_detail_lines"> <dtml-if "check_detail_line"> <dtml-raise required_attribute_missing> errormessage </dtml-raise> </dtml-if> <dtml-call "sql_to_insert_detail_line"> <dtml-if "check_returncode"> <dtml-raise inserterror> error inserting! </dtml-raise> </dtml-if> </dtml-in> <dtml-except> insert failed (error: <dtml-var error_value>) <dtml-else> object added to database </dtml-try> What I would like to do is that all the SQL executed between dtml-try and dtml-except is rolled back when the exception is raised. I tried sending "begin" and "rollback" to the database, but that does not work because Zope sends some transaction control by itself. I tried getting get_transaction().begin() and get_transaction().abort() to work, but I cannot reach that function from dtml not python script. Anyone has some clues to spare? CygWin has PostGreSQL pre-compiled for it now so that wasn't the problem. I got ZPyGreSQLDA compiled but it is not working correctly. RE: [Zope] Major security flaw in Zope 2.3.2
by Farrell, Troy 08 Jun '01

08 Jun '01

That's all well and good, but users should be able to reasonably expect that their passwords be secure from prying administrators. Sure, an admin could brute force or guess a *nix password, but they aren't cleartext. The only easy way for an admin to get a user's passwd is to chage it (nevermind the 'su username' act). Zope stores it's data in a database, with a seperate security system from the filesystem. These passwords should not be cleartext anymore than you would select the cleartext option for your inituser or access file.
