Refresh-Product
by Arenz, Ralph 07 Jun '01

07 Jun '01

Hi, i have a question about the refresh product. After i installed the product it works fine, for a while. At present there is something strange. After i had refreshed my own product for a few times (without any changes of the .py file) , it appears as a multiple entry in the add-Product list box. If i restart the whole zope, what i would prevented, the multiple entries will reduce to one entry. Has anybody an idea what's going on? Ralph

Upgrade from Zope 2.2 to Zope 2.3
by Harris Peter 07 Jun '01

I have Zope 2.2 running on Debian. The 2.3 package has just recently become available, but before I go for the upgrade, I thought I'd ask if there are any gotchas (on Debian or otherwise). 1) Will Zope 2.3 read a Data.fs from 2.2 correctly? I'm gonnae back up the folders I want to keep anyway. But.. 2) Will Zope 2.3 read a .zexp from Zope 2.2 correctly, or would XML be safer? Looking forward to nice clean Python Scripts... RE: Zope docs (was Re: [Zope] I was wondfe)

Have you been there lately? Many of the links (i.e. How To Generate Random Content) point back to www.zope.org:18200/ which does not exist...can be confusing... Of course removing the port reference does work, but will EVERYONE try that? I usually go back to the starting domain for links I follow; just to see what is there... <story content="true"> I did that the other day with a link I had to an image buried deep in a system. After viewing the picture, I removed the stuff back to the domain name. BANG! The frontpage had been hacked by the Chinese and it dumped a worm virus on my system that McAffee caught and deleted. I sent a note to the guy who runs the system and the next day he said thanks and they had fixed it...before or after my note I do not know... </story> Allen -----Original Message----- From: Paz [mailto:paz@chello.nl] Sent: Wednesday, June 06, 2001 4:06 PM Cc: Zope Subject: Zope docs (was Re: [Zope] I was wondfe) http://www.zope.org/Members/ZQR/zqr/short See what I mean? Difficult question related to creating instances of objects...
by Ronald L. Chichester 07 Jun '01

07 Jun '01

This could be considered a difficult question. I want to have a set of objects that interrelate two kinds of information. Call the first one an "issue" and the second one a "paradigm." In a folder, there are mulitple issues and multiple paradigms. Some of the issues go with one or more paradigms. Other issues go with other paradigms. The issue and the paradigm are both ZClasses that I created. This is what I'm after.... Upon calling the issue_addForm, I want to have a list of the paradigms that reside within the calling folder. That way, the owner of the new object merely needs to click on an HTML list box in order to select the different paradigms. Ditto for editing the object. I could have created a set of properties (using the boolean, for example), but this would have made the class specific to a paradigm set. Instead, I want to generalize it so that I can simply add a new folder (with the appropriate index_html, etc.) and then add issue instances and paradigm instances and generate all lists dynamically based upon the content in the file. The bottom-line question is, can I make a list for an HTML list box with the contents of the folder that calls the addForm method? Thanks in advance, Ron

RE: [Zope-dev] mxDateTime-based Zope DateTime module
by Paul Zwarts 07 Jun '01

Hi there, We at one point were fiddling with mx from eegenix, for psycopgDA. We found out the hard way that the mx.h headers in the DateTime were being put in a funny place. Perhaps that may give you a clue. Paz -----Original Message----- From: zope-dev-admin(a)zope.org [mailto:zope-dev-admin@zope.org]On Behalf Of Stephan Richter Sent: 07 June 2001 13:16 To: zope-dev(a)zope.org Subject: [Zope-dev] mxDateTime-based Zope DateTime module Hello everyone, after I got finally frustrated enough with the current implementation of the Zope DateTime module, I decided to write a wrapper for mxDateTime. I checked the license, and the eGenix Public License is GPL compatible, so that we can use it for Zope now. For more details, see http://www.lemburg.com/files/python/mxDateTime.html. You can find the first version of the new DateTime module here: http://www.zope.org/Members/srichter/Products/DateTimeNG Currently, it has a problem with ZCatalog. If you create a catalog and then restart Zope, you get a nasty setstate error: 2001-06-07T04:54:40 ERROR(200) ZODB Couldn't load state for '\000\000\000\000\000\000 \015' Traceback (innermost last): File /opt/devel/dev11480/lib/python/ZODB/Connection.py, line 533, in setstate SystemError: Failed to import class localtime from module __main__ (This is abbreviated debug output from the console.) Since I would like to see this new module in the Zope core ASAP (best in Zope 2.4), I wanted to ask you guys, whether you could have a look at this problem, since I do not know much about the Catalog and the entire ZODB pickle/unpickle process. Furthermore, I would love to hear your comments and ideas. With mxDateTime we can do much more now and have many more possibilities. The current version of the new DateTime module handles most of the old API functions correctly. Only some timezone issues are left open, but using the existing time zone mappers this should be no problem. RE: [Zope] Major security flaw in Zope 2.3.2

I've never heard of putting squid _between_ apache and ZServer, but why not put squid on the outside of your system as to not create extra latency? I think squid is much more advanced than mod_proxy in terms of caching options and raw speed. I am currently setting up a ZEO cluster with nodes running ZServer sitting behind a pair of load-balanced squid caches (the ZEO nodes are also balanced by squid's round-robin features). I am also putting ZServer behind mod_proxy for internal use, so I will have the ability at some point to one day comparatively benchmark all of these. If at some point, I do get around to it, I'll post results to the list. Hello, I was trying to update a ZCatalog within a DTML Method by using DTML and I could not figure it out how to do it. I have the following structure: MyFolder | |--MyDTML_Method | |--MyCatalog within the DTML Method "MyDTML_Method" I would like to update the "MyCatalog" using DTML so I do not need to go in the "Advanced" View of "MyCatalog" and click the [Update] button. Any what DTML Code can do this ? thanks in advance Nico ---------------------------------------------------------------- nico grubert (education & publishing) nico(a)beehive.de beehive elektronische medien GmbH http://www.beehive.de phone: +49 30 847-82 0 fax: +49 30 847-82 29

You should find this information right in the source of the advanced page. From what I see there, it might work like <dtml-call "yourcatalog.manage_catalogReindex()"> cheers, oliver

dynamically assigning DB-connections to ZSQL-methods ?
by Geir Bkholt 07 Jun '01

07 Jun '01

I have to make some ZSQL-methods connect to different database-connections based on a cookie, but am experiencing a bit of trouble.. available DB-connections for a ZSQL-method are listed in a select-box only, not as a simple string , so it is troublesome just adding a python-script to return a DB-connection conditionally.... Have anybody done anything like this ? tips ? -- Geir Bækholt Web-developer/zopatista geirh(a)funcom.com funcom oslo | webdev-team
