The CMF is not a single "Zope product", but a collection of related products. The "installation document", http://cmf.zope.org/download/CMF-1.1beta/INSTALL.txt describes what you need to do, which is to link/copy the "CMF*" directories from the top-level directory to your INSTANCE_HOME or SOFTWARE_HOME's Products directory. Write an external method (to use with zope) or a separate program in python to parse the file and insert each line into the database. Problems with FTP and Windows 98 clients behind a "firewall" ...

Hi! Currently we have problems using FTP from Windows 98 on Zope 2.3.2: Whenever I try to open a Zope server's FTP port from the in-built MS IE 5.0 FTP support or from teh command-line FTP, I can't get any files listed. "ls" will just hang. This was not a problem with older Zope versions as far as I can recall (But it could also be caused by the firewall). FTP also seems to work fine from Linux (command-line and Konqueror). A further investigation showed that the problem seems to be caused by the "firewall" configuration we are using and the use of "passive mode FTP". Anybody experienced this, too? Any solutions? Joachim

CMF Problem

Hi all ! Maybe this isn't the right place to ask this, but ... Anyway, I just downloaded CMF 1.1-beta and I tried to install it and it doesn't work. I copied the Cmf-1.1beta folder to lib\python\Products and I can't find the product under Control Panel->Products. Am I missing something here? I am using Zope 2.3.2 on a Win2k box. Thank you ! extract complete filepath from HTML input file-tag

Hi! I need to extract the complete path of an <input type=file name="my_file"> because if a PDF file should be uploaded, I call a python script which uses the linux pdftotext command (which should to know where the file is) to convert the file to plain text and pass this plain text to ZCatalog indexing system to have stored in zope the searchible content of a PDF too. The only thing I get from REQUEST['my_file'].filename is the file name without the path 'cause I work under linux May be you have some other tip for me? I would appreciate your help greetings Andrei

60GB Data.fs?

Hi there, We're planning a Yahoo! Clubs like system that should scale to about 30, 000 users. Assuming about 3,000 groups and 20MB per group (group functionality includes photo albums), gives a database size of 60GB. Assuming on average 3,000 users per day, 20 page views per users, gives about 60,000 page views (not a lot, but if it's all dynamically generated?). We'd like to use Zope for this, if it is possible. Other options are ok too; anyone have any experience with other ready-made systems? At this scale, how would ZODB hold up with respect to memory use and speed? I've heard rumors that it loads an index into memory on start-up. How would using Oracle as a Storage (ZODB semantics) help? Going full-scale RDBMS means we'd have to reimplement a lot of existing useful tools, so we'd rather not do that if using Zope. I know we'll have to play with cacheing as well, and as I see there are these options: - SQL method cacheing - Using StandardCacheManagers to cache Python and DTML methods - Using StandardCacheManagers to cache pages (using, e.g., Squid as an HTTP accelerator) - ZEO client object cacheing Any other ideas? Slow calendar rendering in Netscape

Hi, I'm playing with the calendar tag, based on code from the Zopista at zopezen (on zope 2.3.2), and have found its really slow to render in Netscape (v 4.7), whereas IE5 zips through it. I've tried putting the dtml- method in a RAM cache (no change) - is it the brower struggling to render a complex table? Any tips from speed freak zope heads? Or should I not use a calendar with NS, and can I use HTTP_USER_AGENT to filter it out? Cheers, Rob

Testing for NULL in ZSQL results

Hello, I've got a Python script that calls an SQL method. Some of the returned rows may contain NULL values. How do I test for those? Right now I'm using same_type() to check a value against the datatype of the column. Wondering if there's a better way. Thanks Wade Leftwich Ithaca, NY
