RE: [Zope] Sharing Database connections and/or methods between Zo pes?

Seems like such a simple thing... I hate to say it, but it is MS Access 2000....have really had great luck with it using Zope. Not doing anything that would come anywhere to taxing it and since ALL connectivity has been with ODBC it has served our purpose very well. Access is NOT installed on either of the two Win2K servers...just using the Access MDB driver that shows up in the ODBC setup panel. Could THIS be it? One server can SEE the other using mapped drives or UNC connections and the ODBC DSN sets up happily without complaint. Don't think it is a Zope issue as I have used another method to try and access the DSN which points to the DB on the other server. Same result...but with it, it shows the 'S1000' ODBC error. So, thankfully, not a Zope issue. Thanks Thomas Allen -----Original Message----- From: Thomas B. [Andy McKay] The ODBC setup should allow you to select a networked database on another NT/2000 server. That should let the the ODBC driver handle it rather than Zope. If your database has client-server capability, you can run a client for it on the same box as the Zope server and access it using ODBC talking to the clienton the one box which gets the data from the database server on the other. I'm doing that successfully running SQLAnywhere. Otherwise, it might be a problem about talking to NT network hosts from Zope. I remember that the LocalFS had a problem with that and you had to install a patch to make it work. Maybe you could find out some details by searching for LocalFS things, and maybe emailing its author. The CMF is not a single "Zope product", but a collection of related products. The "installation document", http://cmf.zope.org/download/CMF-1.1beta/INSTALL.txt describes what you need to do, which is to link/copy the "CMF*" directories from the top-level directory to your INSTANCE_HOME or SOFTWARE_HOME's Products directory. RE: [Zope] Gadfly and import?
by Farrell, Troy 06 Jun '01

Write an external method (to use with zope) or a separate program in python to parse the file and insert each line into the database. I don't think Gadfly has any import capabilities. http://www.chordate.com/gadfly.html Troy -----Original Message----- From: matt standish [mailto:mps_@hotmail.com] Sent: Wednesday, June 06, 2001 9:07 AM To: zope(a)zope.org Subject: [Zope] Gadfly and import? Problems with FTP and Windows 98 clients behind a "firewall" ...
by Joachim Werner 06 Jun '01

06 Jun '01

Hi! Currently we have problems using FTP from Windows 98 on Zope 2.3.2: Whenever I try to open a Zope server's FTP port from the in-built MS IE 5.0 FTP support or from teh command-line FTP, I can't get any files listed. "ls" will just hang. This was not a problem with older Zope versions as far as I can recall (But it could also be caused by the firewall). FTP also seems to work fine from Linux (command-line and Konqueror). A further investigation showed that the problem seems to be caused by the "firewall" configuration we are using and the use of "passive mode FTP". Anybody experienced this, too? Any solutions? Joachim

Hi all ! Maybe this isn't the right place to ask this, but ... Anyway, I just downloaded CMF 1.1-beta and I tried to install it and it doesn't work. I copied the Cmf-1.1beta folder to lib\python\Products and I can't find the product under Control Panel->Products. Am I missing something here? I am using Zope 2.3.2 on a Win2k box. Thank you ! RE: [Zope] The old dmtl namespace question

You get the key error in 4 because you were calling folder2.method2 from method1, I guess David missed that: => >I have:- => > => >Folder1 => > - method1 => >Folder2 => > - method2 <- this method calls method3 => > - method3 => > => >When I call an object like this... => >>From method1 => ><dtml-call "REQUEST.set('variable','value')"> <- I want to set some => >variables too => ><dtml-var "folder2.method2"> => > => >The method works perfectly, except that it does not render. => > So if the folder above folder2 and folder1 is the root folder I think <dtml-var "PARENTS[-1].folder2.method2( _.None, _ )"> should do it. If your folders are subfolders of the folder "parentfolder", you can use <dtml-var "parentfolder.folder2.method2( _.None, _ )">. hope this helps, oliver

extract complete filepath from HTML input file-tag
by Andrei Belitski 06 Jun '01

06 Jun '01

Hi! I need to extract the complete path of an <input type=file name="my_file"> because if a PDF file should be uploaded, I call a python script which uses the linux pdftotext command (which should to know where the file is) to convert the file to plain text and pass this plain text to ZCatalog indexing system to have stored in zope the searchible content of a PDF too. The only thing I get from REQUEST['my_file'].filename is the file name without the path 'cause I work under linux May be you have some other tip for me? I would appreciate your help greetings Andrei

60GB Data.fs?
by Bjorn Stabell 06 Jun '01

06 Jun '01

Hi there, We're planning a Yahoo! Clubs like system that should scale to about 30, 000 users. Assuming about 3,000 groups and 20MB per group (group functionality includes photo albums), gives a database size of 60GB. Assuming on average 3,000 users per day, 20 page views per users, gives about 60,000 page views (not a lot, but if it's all dynamically generated?). We'd like to use Zope for this, if it is possible. Other options are ok too; anyone have any experience with other ready-made systems? At this scale, how would ZODB hold up with respect to memory use and speed? I've heard rumors that it loads an index into memory on start-up. How would using Oracle as a Storage (ZODB semantics) help? Going full-scale RDBMS means we'd have to reimplement a lot of existing useful tools, so we'd rather not do that if using Zope. I know we'll have to play with cacheing as well, and as I see there are these options: - SQL method cacheing - Using StandardCacheManagers to cache Python and DTML methods - Using StandardCacheManagers to cache pages (using, e.g., Squid as an HTTP accelerator) - ZEO client object cacheing Any other ideas? Bye, -- Bjorn Stabell <bjorn(a)exoweb.net>
