Zope Fat Client Project
by Chris Withers 29 May '01

29 May '01

Hi, Just to let everyone know: I was totally blown away by the energy and enthusiasm for the Zope Fat Client stuff. So much so that I've gone ahead and applied for a Source Forge poject. The aim of this is to get some kind fo shared space that's devoted to the project so we can all explore what it is we want from it and how we're going to implement it. I'll let you know when I get a notification back :-) cheers, and thanks for all the input, this has a pretty good feel about it right now... Chris

the "cannot rename zclass" bug ...
by dedmundson＠bigfoot.com 29 May '01

29 May '01

I've seen this a number of times over the past year and can't recall the cause or solution ... Instances of a zclass cannot be renamed either via manage_renameObject or the management interface. The zclass is not catalogaware - its base classes are ZObject and ZObjectManager (in that order). I have other similar zclasses that can be renamed without problem. The problem seems to be with the paste operation. Any ideas? The error: The object X does not support this operation. Relational queries on zope obj db?
by Jeff Kowalczyk 29 May '01

29 May '01

I'm very interested in using zope, but before I dive in, I have a fundamental question that always presents itself when looking at object database technologies. How does a zope developer select related items across folders from the object store? In effect, I'm asking what ZopeDB can do to feign relational SQL when it needs a select query on its objects, more extensive than a simple knock-out filter. The stumbling block is always the same: The problem domain may model perfectly in an ODB's folders/forms, but then the customer asks for the kind of report that would be a snap in SQL with any relational database, but is very difficult, or horrendously slow to do in the object database. A simple example would be: customer-class in one folder, purchaseorder-class in another, productitem-class in a third; select all purchase orders for customerA, displaying each individual productitem ordered. Thanks! If there's any way to do SQL-like queries against Zope's Object Database, or to arrive at the same result, I'm going to check out Zope very seriously.

Py Classes in Python Script?
by Gerrie Roos 29 May '01

29 May '01

I've read the 'How-To: Some Neat Tricks with dtml-tree' on www.zope.org and came accross the part: class _dummy: def __init__(self, name): self.name=name ...and this is exactly what I need to implement at this stage to make my Python Script work in my dtml-tree... But, alas, it seems (like the author pointed out in a note to himself) one cannot put this piece of code in a Zope Python Script...So where to put it? I need it only for this one instance. Or how else can I pass results back to dtml-tree correctly? As far as I could figure, dtml-tree has to receive a list of objects, and these objects need attributes (eg. name) that can then be used for dtml-tree's id parameter, and also to use within your dtml-tree block in dtml-var tags. And how does this all relate to the results object returned from a ZSQL object? Is there maybe a similar object that I can just instantiate with all my data, and return it? I looked at the Shared.DC.ZRDB.Results class, but it seemed a bit of a clumsy way to do it...actually my python is not good. I'm new, okay. tnx gerrie

Hi all, I had a conversation about changing document types two weeks ago - we talked about the 'HTMLDocument' product: >> Is there a possibility to change the type of an document that is >> already in the ZODB? - I dont want to have to reload all of the existing >> static HTML containing 'DTML Documents' >I don't think it possible in a clean way. An ugly hack would be to dump >the ZODB to XML, edit the XML file and reload. Are there other ideas? Andreas

Re: [Zope] Help on downloading data to a file

I think that should be 'len(data)' > context.REQUEST.RESPONSE.setHeader('Content-Disposition', > 'inline;filename=Data.dat') ^^^^^^ Doesn't an 'inline' disposition tell the browser that you want it to try to display the data, rather than save to disk? > return data > > This display the data in the browser, but doesn't download it. Z2.log time format
by Felipe E. Barousse Boue 29 May '01

29 May '01

Hello all: I believe this has been asked and solved before but, wanted to clarify the issue: Is there a way to control the time zone and time offset that Zope records its log on ? An example: my system has Zope behind apache (which works fine) but the log's times are not the same. [29/May/2001:08:20:14 -0500] This is the time/date logged by apache for a request [29/may/2001:13:20:14 -0500] This is the time/date logged by Zope (Z2.log) for the same request after it passed through and received by Zope. Why is there a 5 hour difference ? What is the best way to set the Zope log times to be the same as apache's ? (and ideally the the same as the system's time) Thanks for your feedback. repost: standard_error_message and roles
by Danny William Adair 29 May '01

29 May '01

Hi! Strange behavior... While customizing my standard_error_message, I ran into a problem: Someone with the role "Member" is logged in and tries to access a resource that does not exist. Same could happen to someone who doesn't have that role (Anonymous). Now I have two different style sheets for members and non-members: A member might click on a broken link from within the members-only area (having a... pink background), the anonymous user clicked the same broken link from a publicly accessible area of the site (having a... silver background). I would like to keep the different background colors when showing my error message so I put a <dtml-if "AUTHENTICATED_USER.has_role('Member')"> <dtml-var "members_css"> <dtml-else> <dtml-var "public_css"> </dtml-if> in the head section of standard_error_message (these *_css are ZStyleSheets) My problem is, that it's always the public_css that's used. So I checked with <dtml-var "AUTHENTICATED_USER.getRoles()"> in both the members area and standard_error_message. To my surprise the member role was gone: In the members area - after authentication - getRoles() returned ('Member',) while in standard_error_message ( _.str(error_type)=='NotFound' ) it returned ('Anonymous',) btw, the role is not really "lost", I can go back to the members area and click through members-only pages without problems. What's happening?
