ZBabel Issues
by Chris Herrnberger 29 May '01

29 May '01

Starting out with ZBabel to tranlate a test site and ran into some issues. (nubie alert). The latest ZBabel's readme indicates the presence of a ZBabel.sql file to setup MySQL. This file was only found in ver. 0.0.3 and not present in the current release. Ok installed that..and installed ZBabel tower in Zope232/python1.5 Creating a very simple test page an including the <dtm-var> tags as described results in the following errors. 1. Test Page DMTL <dtml-var standard_html_header> <dtml-babel src=en dist=fr literal='1'> <h2><dtml-var title_or_id></h2> <p> This is the <dtml-var id> Document. </p> </dtml-babel> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> 2. Building Special Document Classes
by Eric Roby 29 May '01

29 May '01

At the risk of asking a stupid question or what must seem obvious ... it no longer is to me. My current project requires that I create different document classes. I need for them to be CatalogAware, editable through the management interface and fully renderable. I have been able to create a structured document ZClass, but I have not been able to create an HTML document ZClass that is both CatalogAware and renderable. If I create a ZClass that is based on CatalogAware and DTMLDocument, use the default manage_main method for the Edit View, the instance is rendered properly but the Catalog is not updated (as I would expect). If I create my own method (to kick-off the reindex_object method) and hook it to the Edit View, I can update the Catalog but the document instance is no longer renderable (I get a file download dialog). My first attempt at the HTML document class was just to use CatalogAware as my base class and hand build my constructors and class methods. I ended up with a document class that was CatalogAware and renderable, however the HTML tags were wrapped in brackets when viewed. So obviously the DTMLDocument class tells the ZPublisher to render it as HTML. This detail is not obvious to me - looking at the code. I know that there is an HTMLDocument product available but it was not designed to allow editing/composing TTW, only file upload. I have read the new Zope Book, all the How-To's, tried to read the code, but nothing that I have seen explains what I am doing wrong. This is a very fundamental aspect of Zope that I need to get past and should be able to get from the available literature. Anyone have any insight - thoughts - experiences - pointers - directions ... Thanks in advance. Eric

Complicated mix of http, https, and ProxyPass
by Jason DiCioccio 29 May '01

29 May '01

I'm having quite the issue right now and am wondering if there is a workaround for it. (let me know if i'm posting to the wrong place) Basically my setup is as follows: I have apache 1.3.19/mod_ssl running with ProxyPass setup for /Zope to "localhost:9080.." I want, however, */manage to always go over SSL. I already have it setup to block non-ssl attempts to */manage with FilesMatch rules in apache. I don't want the rest of the site to go require SSL, but the only way, apparently to have */manage use SSL is to have a siteroot object with the base set to https. This makes every link that uses that dtml variable use https. Is there any way I could only have admin interface require SSL? Without having the rest of the site do so? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, -Jason DiCioccio (geniusj(a)bluenugget.net)

ImageFile in a python product
by Jean-François Ménard 29 May '01

29 May '01

I'm trying to publish images from my python product. I tried: image = ImageFile('www/myimage.gif', globals()) Does'nt work. I tried: def image(self): """ Return image """ return ImageFile('www/myimage.gif', globals()) Does'nt work either. I looked at the mailing list archives, with no clear response. How can I publish images from a python product class?

HELP:Z Class subobject problem
by pub-01＠yodas-hut.dsl.csolutions.net 29 May '01

29 May '01

I am new to Zope and I have created a Z class that will contain database connection objects and Z SQL methods. I used the web interface to create a product and a z class that inherits ZObjectManager. Then in the subojects view I selected the database connection objects that I want to be able to add to the object and leave the 'objects should appear in folder list' checkbox checked. The problem is when I create an instance of the Z class and try to add a database connection from the list of items(right now there is PoPy and ZGadfly in the list) to the instance. It creates the connection object, but it puts it in the parent folder (folder containing the Z class instead) of the Z class. What am I doing wrong here? regards, Eugene

RE: [Zope] Python Scripts

Why not try a try/except statement, instead of an if/else... unless someone knows of another way to do this... This is almost the equivalent of DTML's <dtml-if coffeebreak> Assuming your completely skip the REQUEST object out there. It doesn't have to be 'context' like above or 'self' in External Method. You can even do this one any Zope object. if has(context.folder['document.html'], 'coffeebreak'): print "had coffee" ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tom Deprez" <tom.deprez(a)uz.kuleuven.ac.be> To: <zope(a)zope.org> Sent: Monday, May 28, 2001 11:38 AM Subject: [Zope] Python Scripts > Hi, > > How can we in the python script check if the a certain variable exists in > the namespace? > > ie. Zope success-stories -- why you used Zope?
by Heimo Laukkanen 29 May '01

29 May '01

Hi all, I just a moment ago sent a bunch of questions and here are couple of more, but about different subject. I am doing development of two intranets at the moment, and the development along some other work is going to be my thesis to Espoo-Vantaa institute of technology. I would like to know about other peoples successes with Zope and reasons to choose Zope as the development platform, possibly even later on to intervue by email or irc about this issue -- so that I could write with broader view about choosing Zope. For me and a assume most of the staff at our institute Zope is not that familiar and therefore it would be cool to include also notes from other developers why they started development with this tool and not with Perl, php, Coldfusion, Webobjects or some other application server. For me the reasons to use zope were quite clear: easy, powerfull, open source and even though documentation is hard ( compared to php ) and Python was not familiar, learning curve has been amazing. For me it really seems that Zope rocks! -huima

Best practice to keep userinfo in MySql, session management and per-user data?
by Heimo Laukkanen 29 May '01

29 May '01

First of all I have to say WOW. Thank you guys at Digicool for creating amazing toll like Zope, and thank you people for writing nice howto's to help newbies. I started working with Zope about three weeks ago and now I am building two intranets and clients website with Zope. Here are some questions that I would like to get answered. 1. Userdata ( passwords, roles , etc. ) in database MySqlUserFolder seems to be a product that has been recently updated and under development. Has anyone stumbled into problems with this product, and/or is there some other product that I should be using? LoginManager, UserDB-folder? Comments truly appreciated, since I need solutions quite fast and would not like to waste time in too many unnecessary efforts. 2. Session management and storing user-data While doing development with PHP I got used to the sessions, which were done quite nicely in php4 - meaning support for cookies and url-rewrite. I noticed that there is development in Zope also to support sessions, but reading documents is quite confusing and finding the latest status of development is hard. It seems that cookie-support is ok, but is there yet URL-rewrite - and will there be one? What is the best way to start using session-management now? It seems that also mysqluser-folder has some sort of session management. What is the best practise to start development - and what will the development of session management be in future? What is the best way to store data about the user in Zope, meaning about preferences user has, likes and dislikes etc. I know this could be done with relational database or creating an object for each user - and keep info in attributes etc. Once again -- help needed to get me on my way. 3. Multilanguage sites / products zzLocal seems to atleast one tool to do this. What is the best practise to start developing multilanguage sites and products? 4. Smb-userfolder Sound cool, has anyone this on production use? I'm not that familiar with windows-nt credentials, but I assume that these work only in NT and w2000? What I am trying to do is to run cool authentication for intranet, but our network has users with W2000, Linux and 98 machines. If anyone could pointout to a microsoft-link about this topic I would also appreciate. Well that was a bunch of questions for now. If you can help, thank you in advance! -huima

by skip＠pobox.com 29 May '01

I took down a machine (and reinstalled Linux from scratch) on a machine that had been running Zope. I need to extract a set of pages out of the database. How can I go about that without going through the rigamarole of installing and running Zope? Thx, -- Skip Montanaro (skip(a)pobox.com) (847)971-7098
