Postgres and transactions

I'm attempting to use a ZSQL method to create a new user in a postgresql database (in the CREATE USER... sense), using Popy and postgres 7.0. The problem is that CREATE USER throws an error if you use it inside an explicit transaction. So: Does any know how to explicity turn off transactions for a particular ZSQL method? Do any of the other postgresql adapters work any better? (I'd test them, but I've had build troubles with the others.) Can I get away with just inserting the appropriate data into pg_user or is CREATE USER doing some other magic? I'd be grateful for any clues anyone has. John

page templates - render all of request?

How do you get page templates to render the request without escaping the html? If I use this: <div tal:replace="request"/> I get the request table html all html_quoted like. Thanks for the tip on the product. Will look into it. I need to dive into the security issues, but I have moved alot of my stuff to a hosting environment that definately has more experience with this stuff. That way I can focus on developing more and admin'ing less. But, the security seems alittle lax with Zope. With the flip of a checkbox - anyone can then get into my backend. Not good. And to do it on error is I think even worse. Would never fly in corporate land. But Zope rocks none the less. manage permissions

Each time I go to access the ZMI - it automatically logs in as annonymous user. Thusly, anyone who knows my site address and goes to /manage - can see the insides of my zope instance - though the annon. priveleges dont allow them to do anything. This wasnt happening when I first installed. Now, everytime from inside and outside my network its doing this... Anyone have any ideas how to fix?? Thanks David

ZEO-based Linda?

Before I spend a lot of time researching this, I just want to ask the community whether this would be possible: I like Linda tuplespaces a lot, especially when they're distributed and persistent. What I was thinking was that I could use ZEO (with a dbm storage) for this: the "out" operation would just write the tuple to the storage, while "in" and "rd" would try to grab a tuple, but if no matching tuples would be found the thread would be put on hold, and a special dummy Connection would listen to the invalidate messages back from ZEO (idea: subclass Connection, override invalidate()), trying to match the requests again on every promising ZEO update (for some value of promising). What to do with "eval" is something different, but I could envision some load-balancing scheduler here... Would this (ab)use of ZEO work? Any suggestions?

The correct environment variable name is STUPID_LOG_FILE. Secondly, I'm not sure it makes sense to turn on both local and remote logging as (it seems to me) this example does. I'll address the local logging, since that's the only one I'm sure of. You got nothing for two reasons. One, you followed instructions and unfortunately set the wrong environment variable. Two, you probably didn't turn on debugging by launching zope with the -D switch. Don't forget to background it with the &, because -D causes zope _not_ to detach from the console when starting. And at the risk of sounding repetitious, running a production site with the -D switch is not recommended procedure. But it seems that workaround is not that difficult, assuming that you use the: _['1']['2']['3'] type of syntax when directly traversing, and just _[id] when traversing in an automated fasion. I am not seeming to have a problem, and I have a new project (online classfied ad system) I am working on where I have a hierarchy of 10,000 - 20,000 manageable objects, 3 levels/folders deep, and all of them have 'numeric' (that is strings like '671012374') ids. Are there any other problems from using numeric ids? It makes for simpler development if you never have to worry about ids that start with numbers. We encountered this problem in our development of a major e-commerce site and decided to prohibit ids starting with numbers. By the way, we also disallowed spaces in the ids.
