I think i have the same problem. I have a method inside a (folderish) zclass instance which calls another method some levels up via dtml-var. This breaks adding the classes via "find objects to catalog" - i.e. I get said name error. I guess this is also the reason why importing the top-level folder, which contains the zcatalog, of that site breaks - I get the same error. cheers, oliver

Question 2: why doesnt ObjectManager have a getObject(self, objectId) method on it? or am i overlooking something? Question 3: abit off topic-- are people generally happy w/ data centric ZClasses? some people scare me with their experiences, but it seems that purely data centric ZClasses (although can be brittle) -- are nonviolatile things. I am pushing ZOPE as a solution and am selling ZClasses very heavy -- nonprogrammers will be maintaing the system after its done. Creating your own list to use with dtml-in

Hi, Can somebody tell me how I can create a list which returns a same list as with an zsqlmethod? for instance the following list {5:{name:'tom', address:'xxx'}, 7:{name:'Lies', address:'xxx'}} Now, I would like to use it as <dtml-in list> <dtml-var address> </dtml-in> Can somebody tell me how to do this? security questions

Hi all, I'm learning about the Zope security system, and have a couple of questions that I coulnd't find an answer for: * Even though in my acl_users folder in Root the Anonymous sole has no permissions enabled, I can access as anonymous to any page, why's this? * The Zope Book says that in the security tab there is a text entry that allows adding user defined roles. I don't see that entry, I only get the permissions/roles table. I'm logged in as admin all the time. How can I define a new role? * I will have editors on my site, who should be able to edit/add content, but not to change scripts, or other things. Is it a good idea to define an "editor" role for them and then adjust the pemissions accordingly? Sorry for the number of questions, and I'd appreciate any pointer to info or solutions about them. [BUG] in OFS/Traversable.py

Hi, there's a bug in OFS/Traversable.py line 169 (on Zope 2.3.0 and 2.3.2) in unrestrictedTravese() there's: --- CUT --- if name[0] == '_': # Never allowed in a URL. raise 'NotFound', name --- CUT --- but when calling restrictedTraverse with only '/' as the path argument the test above raises an IndexError, and it's possible that the rest of the function unrestrictedTraverse doesn't work correcly even when correcting this bug with a "if name and name[0]=='_'" (UNTESTED). Example: make a Python script, which has only the following line: --- CUT --- return repr(context.restrictedTraverse('/')) --- CUT --- Click on the Test tab, that's it ! Theorically and if I understand correctly what restrictedTraverse and unrestrictedTraverse are for, it should return the top level object i.e. the root folder object or application object. hoping this helps Jerome Alet

addressbook security

Is anyone using the addressbook by morphex? I am having trouble getting security set up so anyone but the folder owner, or maybe someone with the manager role, can add new contacts. I suspect the problem may actually be with threadsafecounter, rather than with addressbook itself. I have given my users EVERY permission listed on the security page and I still get prompted for a new signon. My users do exist at a higher level in the folder hierarchy than the address book. And I am running this on win2k. Any suggestions appreciated. I am pretty new to ZOPE, but learning fast.

Guten Abend. According to the Zope Developer's Guide our favourite web application server prevents dirty reads with his transaction support. Is it possible to prevent non-repeatable reads and phantom reads, too? Or should I use a more appropriate tool like PostgreSQL with support for MVCC? Is there more documentation about Zope's transaction support? (Or is it another case for "Read the source, Luke"?) Cheers, Nils

ZCatalog (2.3.1) won't acquire method from parent folder?

Running Zope 2.3.1; A ZCatalog instance that I have won't acquire a method from the parent folder it resides in; I get a NameError on the method. This is very strange. The method is called from another method whose results are supposed to be indexed. +Zope Root +Classifieds (Container, Subclassed from Folder, contains a method called iterateText(self, text, times)) Catalog (ZCatalog) I have a text index set up for a method called searchTextWeighted, which is a DTML template file on disk within a python product. Inside searchTextWeighted, I have the following DTML: <dtml-var expr="iterateText(getTitleExpanded(), 5)"> iterateText is a method of a python class that is subclassed from ZCatalog.CatalogAware and OFS.Folder.Folder: def iterateText(self, text, times): """Repeats output of text times # of lines for # of times""" result='' times=int(times) for item in range(times): result=result+text+'\n' return result I get a name error for iterateText upon trying to add a catalog-Aware class, when index_objects() is run (I just made this class Catalog-aware). This is weird, since, in terms of namespaces, iterateText is in a folder above the Catalog, and also above the item I am trying to ad, so no matter how you look at it, iterateText should be acquired, and not generate a Name Error. In testing this out, I am able to traverse to iterateText via URL in a browser with no problems. I assume that this is not related to the ZCatalog bug in 2.3.1 where the Catalog won't run a method requiring arguments. The method in the index, searchTextWeighted, passes all the arguments needed by iterateText in the DTML. So I am a bit confused here. Did you look at this tag (in the HTML source)? Is it correct? If not, then the way it is wrong, can give you a hint. If it would be correct, one would need to understand why URL traversal can no longer reach it. I assume, it is part of your product class? Then it should be accessible by "<URL for your product instance>/editad_image". Try to access it this way directly (entering the URL in the browser directly). This should give you quite a good problem message.. Dieter
