Zope@docroot w/iPlanet
by Jason Wehmhoener 28 Apr '01

I'm switching from Apache to iPlanet, which I am not as familiar with. I would like my Zope site to appear at the doc root of my web server, but I don't know the iPlanet analogues for ProxyPass or ReWriteRule. How do I get Zope to appear at the docroot with iPlanet? diff releases - explanations
by Tom Cameron 27 Apr '01

27 Apr '01

I started writing this question and then finally solved it myself, but I figured it was worth posting still as a recommendation. I am running Zope-2.3.0 (which I successfully installed from src on FreeBSD a few months ago) and wish to upgrade. I have downloaded Zope-2.3.x-to-2.3.1-src.tgz and unzipped it, but I can't (couldn't) find any instructions on what to do. The doc folder only contains: CHANGES.txt FAQ.txt LOGGING.txt none of which explain how to install this. And as far as I can see no other docs are included. I read http://www.zope.org/Members/mcdonc/HowTos/zopeinstall/ZOPE-INSTALL-HOWTO but that does not seem to match the file I have downloaded. The file I have downloaded looks more like a patch rather than a full installation. Nor does http://www.zope.org/Products/Zope/2.2.0/upgrading_to_220 - this seems outdated. I then went to http://www.zope.org/Documentation/admin but nothing there either. Finally I searched the mailing lists and found http://groups.yahoo.com/group/zope/message/54997 The last 11 lines of this letter explain what to do (I think). Nothing on the site or in the file explains that it is a "diff" release (or what a "diff" is - or what to do with it). I would recommend that some instructions and explanations be placed on http://www.zope.org/Products/Zope/2.3.1 where the files can be downloaded from. Even the release email http://groups.yahoo.com/group/zope/message/55939 does not clearly explain what a "diff" release is. Or have I missed something completely?? Tom Cameron

ANNOUNCE: Zope 2.3.2 released
by Brian Lloyd 27 Apr '01

27 Apr '01

Hello all, Zope 2.3.2 has been released - you can download it from Zope.org: http://www.zope.org/Products/Zope/2.3.2/ Zope 2.3.2 contains no changes from 2.3.2 beta 2 other than two small fixes that were accidentally committed to the release branch (it was supposed to be frozen between the final beta and the final release). Since the changes were tiny and easily verifiable, we verified them and left them in. For more information on what is new in this release, see the CHANGES.txt and HISTORY.txt files for the release: - http://www.zope.org/Products/Zope/2.3.2/CHANGES.txt - http://www.zope.org/Products/Zope/2.3.2/HISTORY.txt For more information on the available Zope releases, guidance for selecting the right distribution and installation instructions, please see: http://www.zope.org/Documentation/Misc/InstallingZope.html Brian Lloyd brian(a)digicool.com Software Engineer 540.371.6909 Digital Creations http://www.digicool.com

RE: [Zope] File storage question.
by Dunigan, Craig 27 Apr '01

27 Apr '01

Hi Allen, Welcome to Zope! Unless you've installed a Zope product called LocalFS or one of its cousins, the "files" in Zope are actually objects in the ZODB. The ZODB itself is a single file called "data.fs," and it usually lives in the var directory. Administrative note: this is the file to back up, with it and a fresh install of Zope you can recreate your entire site. If you removed index_html, then you already know a little about the management interface. Go back in there and create a new DTML Document called "index_html" in the same location as the one you deleted, containing whatever you'd like, and that'll fix your 404. At this stage of the game, you can just put HTML in there and worry about DTML a bit later. Yes, the "_" is not only the default, but necessary. You can't change it to a ".", it confuses Python. Once you get used to it, you'll find you really don't have to care what the "files" in Zope are called, and since it's not really a file anyway, the lack of a "." and file extension doesn't matter at all. Hope this helps! View your images through a "view" method (DTML or Python): URL:..../image/view The "view" method could look like that: <dtml-call "RESPONSE.setHeader(....)"> <dtml-return index_html> Dieter

Should it not be a Zope exit? I fear that one reason that this is not used by newbies is that they cannot find it! Jim Penny

Re: [Zope] Location of ZODB
by seb bacon 27 Apr '01

Two ways of doing this: 1) http://www.zope.org/Products/ZEO completely abstracts the storage from the server - the ZODB can be accessed through unix or tcp sockets. 2) http://www.zope.org/Members/4am/instancehome how to have multiple ZODBs running off one Zope. i have my development ZODBs in separate folders running off a server over nfs, so they get backed up in the normal backup schedule. hth seb * Francois-regis Chalaoux <Francois-regis.Chalaoux(a)sanofi-synthelabo.com> [010425 21:25]: > Hi, > > Is it possible to store ZODB (var directory) on an another machine than the machine where is stored the "Zope directory" ? > > FR

Re: [Zope] PHP Product(IOError)

Your code wants to write (probably) a file "988374611_714.txt" and the process has not the appropriate OS rights to do that. You need to change the file system permissions or the user that runs the Zope process. Dieter

Re: [Zope] About publishing image files in python product

Dirksen writes: > I'm writing a python product, which will publish a lot of image files as class > attributes. 2 problems arose: > > 1. All image files have to be manually declared as class attributes in the python class > file, which is a tedius job. You can do that programmatically: class C...: ... for image in (<your list of image names; of cause you need to name them>): setattr(C,image,ImageFile('img/%s' % image, globals())) This will get rid of your second problem, too: dot's in names.
