The basic approach is export and reimport. Unfortunuately, Zope supports the export only for single objects. This implies the need for intermediate steps: * Copy the complete structure * Delete everything, you do not like in the other environment * Export the structure * Import in destination * Copy everything at the final destination. This step may need to get automation support in case the structure is not flat and upper hierarchy nodes are already present at the destination. Dieter

File storage question.
by Allen.Vailliencourt＠channelmaxinc.com 27 Apr '01

27 Apr '01

greetings! I'm really new to Zope, although I've been reading up on it and following it for over a year. Just never had too much time to really sit down and start using/playing with it -- until now. Here's my question... I'm running Zope (latest stable build) on my WinNT 4 workstation and have installed the CMF 1.0 stuff already. I haven't been able to find this answer in the documentation yet (still reading though) but where are the files (ie images, html, etc) stored for my webserver? For instance in Apache you have your htdocs directory, in IIS you have your wwwroot directory, where is it on Zope? Or are all the files stored in the Zope DB? Reason I'm asking is that I removed the default zope page (index_html) and want to create a new (index) page with my info but since I removed the index_html file I get a 404 error basically. I created a sub directory (http://localhost/coolness) and had to name the main file index_html. Is the _ the default? Can I rename the file index.htm or default.htm? Thanks. Hope this didn't sound too confusing. :) ~Allen ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Web Development Engineer ChannelMax, Inc www.scansource.com www.catalysttelecom.com www.channelmaxinc.com (864) 329-8239 availliencourt(a)channelmaxinc.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Embarrasing.. Seems the database had a trailing space in the names we were looking for. Removing the space resolved the problem. Brad Clements, bkc(a)murkworks.com (315)268-1000 http://www.murkworks.com (315)268-9812 Fax netmeeting: ils://ils.murkworks.com AOL-IM: BKClements

About publishing image files in python product
by Dirksen 27 Apr '01

27 Apr '01

I'm writing a python product, which will publish a lot of image files as class attributes. 2 problems arose: 1. All image files have to be manually declared as class attributes in the python class file, which is a tedius job. 2. The declaration mentioned above doesn't allow dot in the attribute name (it may be my ignorance), so 'toolbar.gif' has to be renamed to 'toolbar_gif'. I sort of found a work-around by overriding __getitem__, like this: def __getitem__(self, name): return ImageFile('img/%s' % name, globals()) It solves the problem. But after the excitement subsided, I started to wonder why DC doesn't do that in the first place. Can anyone tell whether there's a huge performance trade-off? Is there a better way to solve the two problems? Cheers Dirksen __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Service NT INSTANCE_HOME
by Francois-regis Chalaoux 27 Apr '01

27 Apr '01

Hi, The very good Howto at "http://www.zope.org/Members/4am/instancehome" describe a nice solution to start Zope with an another INSTANCE_HOME . However, this solution don't seem effective with the Zope NT service : If you create a INSTANCE_HOME with var, Extensions, import, Products, access entities, and you declare INSTANCE_HOME in start.bat, Zope find correctly your INSTANCE_HOME when you manually run start.bat. But if you start Zope with a service it does not work even if you change the string INSTANCE_HOME in the NT register ? Is there a solution to use an another INSTANCE_HOME and start zope with a service ? FR

Logout wie beim Manage Fenster
by Thorsten Zerha 27 Apr '01

27 Apr '01

Dankbar fuer jede hilfe. thorsten. -- GMX - Die Kommunikationsplattform im Internet. http://www.gmx.net

Zope interfacing with C
by Lee 27 Apr '01

27 Apr '01

Hi there, I have a question about Zope's ability to interact with C programs. I don't know the *exact* details yet, but hopefully they shouldn't be (too) necessary for you to give me your opinions. Okay, a piece of software has been developed in C to analyse experimental data - lots of number crunching, etc. This is running on a *seperate* machine (or possibly array or machines). They (the developers) want a Web portal developed to interact with this software - yup, I expect the CMF (nee PTK) could be used here. The portal would facilitate (obviously) user accounts, data storage, etc. and would have to facilitate a whole bunch of functions supported by the C programs - data analysis, data visualisation, etc. E.g. a C program is running somewhere and the user enters information through Zope. Actually, I think the data would be held on a database before it is processed. Okay, so data from Zope / a database is sent to a C program, processed, and the output is returned to the user through Zope and displayed in the browser. Basically, I am asking how feasible it would be to use Zope to interact with C programs - to provide input for and display its output. If its a problem, then I expect that Zope and the C programs could be run on the same machine. It would not be possible to re-implement the software in Python - well, I suppose it would, but it's quite a large piece of software that has taken a few years to develop. I would appreciate a few different points of view. Of course, if all of the above is possible then a simple "yes" would suffice - or two "yes's" just to be on the safe side ;-) Thanks very much for your thoughts, - Best regards, Lee -- Lee Reilly mailto:lee.reilly@ntlworld.com http://www.footkick.co.uk/lee

RE: [Zope-CMF] Images
by Norman Khine 27 Apr '01

Currently this is not possible when you use the current CMF, although maybe if you are only looking to add news items you may install squishdot within the CMF, but then I think you'll loose the CMF functionality. Sorry I can't be of more help. I don't think you can add html formating to the title and lead in.
