presenting a list of stuff
by Sven Fischer 16 Apr '01

16 Apr '01

hello, i'd like to know whats the most elegant/practical/usefull way of displying a list of stuff (that might or might not be there). i have a zclass with a couple of boolean properties and i'd like to display a list of *true* items this way : ItemA,ItemB,ItemD,ItemE. (itemC is false) i can do it pretty easily with a bunch of dtml-if (but it looks too ugly and my fingers hurt !) and i can't kill the "," before the last point. p.s. i would prefer to do it in dtml since this has a lot more to do with presentation than logic and since the guys who will be coming after me will be even less python-enabled than i am ;-) thx, $ven

Accentuation with ZCatalog...
by After Dark 16 Apr '01

16 Apr '01

Hello. I am using ZCatalog to make searches in my site, but I need that when I make a search, ZCatalog ignores accentuation. Example: PrincipiaSearchSouce: table Have to find: táble, tãble, tàble, table Is there any property that do that? Or something like... Thanks. ________________________________________________ Don't E-Mail, ZipMail! http://www.zipmail.com/

ANN: patch to <dtml-tree> adds urlparam_expr
by Danny William Adair 16 Apr '01

16 Apr '01

Hi! I patched TreeTag.py so that <dtml-tree> accepts a new parameter "urlparam_expr". It works like urlparam, except that it will take a python expression and evaluate it before creating the querystring for the expanding and contracting widget links. It's a "hotfix product", so you don't have to change your Zope sources. You can get it here: http://www.zope.org/Members/Barabbas/TreeTagPatch I've put the feature request for <dtml-tree> in the Collector, too: http://classic.zope.org:8080/Collector/bugsAndFeatures It's only three little locations that I patched. Maybe someone that knows Zope better than I do can have a look and verify that the patch is ok. Seems to me, but you know... Thanks, Danny

Access same named Property of Parent Object [newbie]
by Stefan Mallepell 15 Apr '01

15 Apr '01

Hi Is there anybody who could give me a hint, how I access a Property-Value of a parent object, when my current object has a own property with the same name. Is there something like <dtml-var "PARENTS[0].propertyName()"> ... well the above hasen't worked ... and some other experiments ended in a crash either ... ;) Thanks a lot in advance Stefan Mallepell

Problems with LoginManager
by l.p.arnesen＠usit.uio.no 15 Apr '01

15 Apr '01

I need to implement user authentication (with Zope 2.3.1) based on a PostgreSQL user database and found a HOWTO at zope.org: <URL: http://www.zope.org/Members/jok/SQL_based_LoginManager> This pointed me to a howto for installing LoginManager and ZPatterns: <URL: http://www.zope.org/Members/BwanaZulia/zpatterns_install> After compleating the LoginManager/ZPattern installation I restarted the Zope server, but LoginManager doesn't appear in the list of available objects/folders in the managment user interface. I really need some help to get it working since I haven't found any good information about how to get LoginManager working (except for the two links above). -- Lars Preben

[newbie] Property with <dtml-var> in it's value
by Stefan Mallepell 15 Apr '01

15 Apr '01

Hi Was just a bit surprised and haven't found anything about this on zope.org ... Can anyone tell me how I can make that a <dtml-var xxxx> which is stored in a Property of a ZClass instance, will be "processed" when I reference it in a dtml method. The property is from type "text" and there is normal text in front and after the dtml-var statement. Thanks for your help Stefan Mallepell PS: I'm very sorry, that I put so many questions in to this email-list at the moment. I hope somewhen in the future I will be able to help myself other newbies ...

Re: [Zope] Calling dtml method from search result

Modern ZCatalog's have an "getobject" method beside the "getpath". "getobject" gives you the object instead of the path. Alternative: whenever you have a path, you can use "restrictedTraverse" to resolve it into an object. Dieter

He obviously did.. A talented Python programmer who liked Zope enough to try it, and then decided [last year, note] that for him there might be a better way. Check out some of the work he has done making ZODB accessible to the general Python programming community, who for whatever reason, may not wish to go 100% Zope. Some good reading there... http://www.amk.ca/zodb/ -- Jason ___________________________________________________________ Jason CUNLIFFE = NOMADICS['Interactive Art and Technology']

[Ann] Protecting DTML objects from Web-Access
by Dieter Maurer 15 Apr '01

15 Apr '01

Dear Zopistas, Several times, I heard the wish to protect objects from access through the Web while they are otherwise (i.e. from DTML, Python Script, ...) usable as normal. This requirement prevents using the "View" permission as it covers both access from the Web and internally. We discussed earlier to split the View permission into something like a "View" (in the sense of "View through the Web") and "Use" (in the sense as use internally). Recently, I suggested an incredible complex solution for hiding doc strings. Now, I found a really easy way to achieve the goal. It is a hack, though. Splitting the "View" permission would be much more explicit. It goes like this: ZPublisher normally wants to call "index_html" (or whatever standard method handles the HTTP request) when it reaches the end of the URL during traversal. It can be prevented to do this, if either the object does not have (or acquire) the method or is has, but it is 'None'. As DTML objects, and probably many others (Python Scripts may use a different approach), do not want an acquired "index_html" to be called, they define "index_html = None". If a DTML object's "index_html" is set to something different (not 'None'), then this object is called by ZPublisher and not the DTML object. You can set any callable object. It may return a nice page telling the user that he exceeds his limits, raise an exception or set an error response status. Setting "index_html" to "None" again restores the old state. The following trivial external method can set "index_html": def setIndex_html(obj, index_html): obj.index_html= index_html Dieter
