ANN: At long last, the change we've been waiting to announce
by Paul Everitt 06 Apr '01

06 Apr '01

Howdy gang. At long last we can announce: http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/010405/dcth003.html Namely, Digital Creations has filled the vacant CEO seat that my naïve little tooshie has been keeping warm for too long now. This has been in the cooker for a while, and I can guarantee you that I'm happy to tell everyone! This is a big move for us, a signal that we're ready to take all the built-up potential and make little old Digital Creations into a strong company. Brian has a strong vision, from both the services side and the product side. Far more important, he has *experience* in crafting a sizeable, professional services outfit. It's getting just about time for us to "cross the chasm". What does this mean to the community? Of course, the formula: Zope != Digital Creations ...still applies, so if these corporate muckity muck maneuverings don't interest you, you're safe to locate the button marked "Del" in the top right of your keyboard. However, those eager to see us capitalize on November's investment round and increase Zope's legitimacy, well, this is a critical step. Of course, we also got furniture delivered to our amazingly-overdue new location today. But that's a different kind of excitement. :^) Worried that it will snuff out the culture and that we're going to start making bland, goofy decisions, with no spark of life nor exploding-head ideas? Well, _me too_. But I've stayed worried about that every day for years, so I have a head start on you. :^) However, I'm comfortable that, as Hadar said way back when in the Open Source Decision diary, we know the difference between the golden goose and the golden eggs. We consider the Zope magic we have going on here with you folks to be the golden goose. I hope that we continue to be good stewards and earn the trust you've placed in us to do good things. Worried about me? Don't be, I'm thrilled that we're doing this. I know what I'm good at, and frankly, I know what I come up short (inside joke for anyone that's met me). This is good for me and good for everyone here. For one thing, I expect this will mean I'm more engaged here on the mailing list...see, there's a downside in this for you folks after all! Anyway, this news *just* went on the wire in the last few minutes. I wanted to make sure that you guys heard it pronto. Wish us luck and keep the faith! --Paul

I need to create the ability to upload files to a LocalFS object and am stumped even after searching the archives. This recipe I found.... =========================================================================== upload_image_form ------------------------------------------------------------------------- <FORM ACTION="upload_image" METHOD="POST" ENCTYPE="multipart/form-data"> <TABLE CELLSPACING="2"> <TR> <TH ALIGN="LEFT" VALIGN="TOP">File</TH> <TD ALIGN="LEFT" VALIGN="TOP"> <INPUT TYPE="file" NAME="file" SIZE="25" VALUE=""> </TD> </TR> <TR> <TD></TD> <TD><BR><INPUT TYPE="SUBMIT" VALUE="Upload"></TD> </TR> </TABLE> </FORM> upload_image ------------------------------------------------------------------------- <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('file',file)"> <dtml-with "LocalFS_objekt_id"> <dtml-call "manage_upload(file, id='',action='manage_workspace')"> </dtml-with> ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ============================================================================= Produces the following error... ============================ Error Type: AttributeError Error Value: filename =========================== Where is this error coming from and how do I fix it? Where do I stipulate the name of the file as it will be stored on the server's hard drive? Any help much appreciated. P. Johnson

HowTo? onChange assign value to dtml-var
by Shaw, Mark 05 Apr '01

Hello everyone, Does anyone have an example of how to do the following: Let's assume I have a form named form1 with a field named fld_first_name. On any change in the value of that field, I would like to assign the new value to a dtml variable that was previously defined using . Something like this: <input type="text" name="fld_first_name" onChange='' > I would like to do this so that I can have access to the new value without the SUBMIT button being pressed. Thanks in advance for any help/pointers/code examples provided. -Mark

XML databases
by David Kelly 05 Apr '01

05 Apr '01

I have a large european project that my organisation are involved with that requires us to use an XML database. I know that the project "core" are using Tamino, and have my doubts about how well zope can exchange data with this system... I would like to use zope at our end but I need advice on the possibilities. does anybody have experience on this mixture of Tamino/Zope???... we are looking at all angles on this one and will be able to offer a budget for development if necessary... to be quite honest I would vastly prefer to offer the money that Tamino costs to the zope community in order to provide a solution.... any answers to dkelly(a)aet-es.org please. Regards David AET quote from http://www.rpbourret.com/xml/XMLDatabaseProds.htm#native Tamino Developer: Software AG URL: http://www.softwareag.com/tamino/ Database type: Native XML (Adabas?). Relational through ODBC. Tamino consists of an engine (the X-Machine), an internal XML data store (apparently the Adabas hierarchical database), a relational database and SQL engine, a module (the X-Node) for interfacing to external data sources, such as relational databases and file systems, an HTTP server, administration tools, and a data map. The latter describes where the data in a given XML document is stored and allows XML documents to be composed from multiple, heterogeneous sources. Tamino's XML support includes a DOM implementation, an XQL implementation, processing of XML documents with XSL and CSS, and limited support for SOAP. It can store schema-less documents and can use schema information if it is available. The internal SQL engine is addressable through ODBC, JDBC, and OLE DB. However, it does not appear that, when addressed via these APIs, it can integrate data from the internal XML data store or from external data sources.

Re: [Zope] Apache SubFolder to Zope root folder using VirtualMonster

>> The Virtual Host Monster documentation has an example >> for what I am trying to do that looks like this: >> >> ProxyPass /zope >> http://www.foo.com:8080/VirtualHostBase/http/www.foo.com:80/VirtualHostRoot/ _vh_zope >This should work with the most recent VHM. What version of >Zope/SiteAccess are you using? >Cheers, >Evan @ digicool & 4-am Any clues where to go from here? I'm using Zope 2.3 and SiteAccess 2.0.0 (the version that came packaged with Zope 2.3). Is it possible that there are any updates? The exact virtual host section of my httpd.conf is here: <VirtualHost 192.168.10.3> ServerName www.endsound.com ServerAlias endsound.com *.endsound.com DocumentRoot /web/endsound/html RewriteEngine On RewriteRule /mail$ /cgi-bin/sqwebmail [R] ProxyRequests On ProxyPass /misc_ http://www.endsound.com:9000/misc_ ProxyPass /p_ http://www.endsound.com:9000/p_ ProxyPass /zope http://www.endsound.com:9000/VirtualHostBase/http/www.endsound.com:80/Virtua lHostRoot/_vh_zope ProxyPass /z http://www.endsound.com:9000/VirtualHostBase/http/www.endsound.com:80/Virtua lHostRoot/ </VirtualHost> When I access the URL www.endsound.com/zope with the _vh_zope at the end of the VHM ProxyPass line, I get a Zope resource not found error. Looking at the source of the error page, it states that the resource not found is _vh_zope. This is a new installation of Zope with only a couple added products (ZWiki, LocalFS). No SiteRoots are currently defined. If I access the URL www.endsound.com/z, I correctly land in the root Zope directory, but none of the generated links work since they are missing the /z/. It seems like the biggest clue is that zope is looking for a resource called _vh_zope rather than just using it for the URL generation. I'm not a python programmer, but I don't mind getting my hands dirty if there is source around to debug. Thanks again! Lars

Finding out how many rows is selected in database
by Spicklemire, Jerry 05 Apr '01

05 Apr '01

Gitte said: > need to do one thing if there are > records returned and another if no records are returned To test for no rows returned, this works: <dtml-if sql_query_name> <dtml-else> <dtml-call process_no_matching_records> </dtml-if> In other words, do nothing unless you get a response that tests "true". An empty set is interpretted as "false". Of course, you can call a "process_matching_records" by sticking it between the "if" and the "else". Also, by setting the cache value of the query you can "call" it again, but in fact the result set will just be re-used For Example: <dtml-if sql_query_name> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('result_set', sql_query_name)"> There are <dtml-var "_.len(_['result_set'])"> matching rows. <dtml-in sql_query_name> <dtml-call process_matching_records> </dtml-in> <dtml-else> There are no matching rows. <dtml-call process_no_matching_records> </dtml-if> It looks like the same query is being called three times, but the cache setting allows the result set to be re-cycled, much to the relief of your RDBMS! If I simply don't get your problem, please ignore. Later, Jerry S.
