Can Zope act as an XML capable http client?
by Chris Beaumont 05 Apr '01

05 Apr '01

Zopistas, The subject line says it.. I am trying to connect up to a legacy FileMaker system which can act as a web server, serving up generic HTTP content. I'd like to structure the templates so that this content is available on the web in XML format. Can I use Zope to connect to this DB and download the XML via regular HTTP, and then parse it? Id like to then be able to write it to *my* database using a ZSQL method.. Is this feasible? -Chris

RE: [Zope] How to add ZClass instances from Python Script ? Help needed

Unfortunately, this doesn't work from a PythonScript (can't use _setId, etc), only external methods. I am trying to do the same thing, trying to port the technique (calling the ZClass constructor add method) from the dtml version, but I can't seem to get it right... anybody have any thoughts? RE: [Zope] ZServer *still* dying - help?
by Mayers, Philip J 05 Apr '01

It seems to be very difficult to get a consistently failing test case, but easier with the DB adaptor. That said, how about this: http://blacklotus.cc.ic.ac.uk/~pjm3/bug2.zexp Seems to suffer from the same problem, and has *no* dependencies (doesn't need a database or any products). Simply import it, hammer the /HDB/showmachine_html url without a ?machineid=whatever, it seems ok, hammer it *with* the argument, it fails. You will probably need to use the floodget script I link earlier, unless you can press F5 *really* fast ;o) Regards, Phil +----------------------------------+ | Phil Mayers, Network Support | | Centre for Computing Services | | Imperial College | +----------------------------------+ -----Original Message----- From: Chris McDonough [mailto:chrism@digicool.com] Sent: 05 April 2001 19:50 To: Mayers, Philip J; Thomas B. Passin; zope(a)zope.org Subject: Re: [Zope] ZServer *still* dying - help? Thank you very much for your work on packaging this up. But... I thought it happened without postgres and that it was a property of calling a DTML method from a python script with a lot of arguments? A very simple example without postgres would be way better, even if it's just, "here's two methods, type them in, view one, and keep clicking refresh really fast". If it's a bug in Zope, and it's reproducible I'll try to fix it. If it's a bug in the postgres DA, I'd like to try, but I can't really spend much time on it. As well, the maintainer of the DA should be involved. If you can't send something that doesn't involve the DA, I understand... but I won't be able to do much with it today. I did what you told me, but the method assumed the context of the file wich called it. Like this: myserver/ myserver/arvore_dtml myserver/dir_restrict/calls_dtml myserver/dir1/ myserver/dir2/ myserver/arq_x I`m calling the arvore_dtml(code you sent) from calls_dtml, but I want to list files and dirs from myserver. What is happening is that it is listing from dir_restrict. Did I make something wrong? Bye. RE: [Zope] Apache SubFolder to Zope root folder using VirtualHostMonster
by Lars Holmstrom 05 Apr '01

This is the configuration that I started with and you are correct that it DOES work. The problem is that all Zope generated URLs that are embedded in the emitted HTML are of the http://my.org:8080/ variety, rather than the http://my.org/zope variety. This means that I need to keep port 8080 open on my firewall, loose the nice portless URLs, and stop proxying requests through my Apache server and its request logger. Things could be worse, but I am trying to find more elegant and maintainable solution to this problem. Thanks for your input Stefan! Lars > -----Original Message----- > From: Stefan H. RE: [Zope] HowTo? onChange assign value to dtml-var

Thanks everyone. Sorry, but, the DTML is long resolved and done before the web page ever gets to your browser, so you can't assign anything to DTML from a form action *while still on that page*. This isn't a Zope problem; its the whole fundamental client/server web thang. The onChange method could load a new page, or refresh the current page, passing the new name as it did so. -- Joel Burton <jburton(a)scw.org> Director of Information Systems, Support Center of Washington _______________________________________________ Zope maillist - Zope(a)zope.org http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope ** No cross posts or HTML encoding! ** (Related lists - http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-announce http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-dev )

Can anyone explain it? Yes, it came up already in the list: It is probably an interesting acquisition effect * the current object of an "in" interation is pushed onto the DTML namespace wrapped into an "InstanceDict" * if the current object came from a Z SQL query, then its acquisition context is set to the Z SQL query. It seems that your "Folder3" above is found via the current object of the "QueryA" iteration. Therefore, this object forms the acquisition context of "Folder3". The rest is easy: With "Folder3" on top of the DTML namespace, it is ask first for the "common fields". It does not have them itself and asks its acquisition context, the "QueryA" interation object. This happily provides its values. With "in" and "with" interchanged, the "QueryB" iteration object is on top of the namespace and resolves the names. Dieter

Hello, I am looking for a Zope expert near Linköping in Sweden that might be interested in coming to Linköping University to answer detailed questions about Zope. We are about to decide about a new central CM system and Zope is one of the contenders, but we need someone with experience and expertise that can answer detailed questions about Zopes ability to meet our demands. Please contact me in private if you meet the requirements described above.
