Lemme dig out the url: > >http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/ I tried that, but the only thing it seemed to object to were my <dtml-var>s which I expected anyway. >Can you possibly provide us with an example? Sure. In my CSS I have set up this variable: .OAA { background-color: green; font-size: 20pt; font-weight: bold; color: gold; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-style: italic; } I refer to it in the code of my <standard_html_header> as: <TD class="OAA" align="center">OUTDOOR ADVENTURE ACTIVITIES</TD> Works fine in Netscape 4.75, but not at all in Netscape 6. I have created other similar variables and Netscape 6 doesn't recognise any of them. The only part of my CSS is does recognise is: <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('site_fonts', 'Comic Sans MS')"> It does set Comic Sans MS as the default font, but refuses to recognise any of the variables I set up in my CSS. Can I stop processing while saving data?
by Shai Berger 05 Apr '01

05 Apr '01

Hi guys, Problem: In our site, there are some pages that require that a user be logged in. We implemented a login mechanism using sessions, and we do not use Zope authentication. Now, in order to make the maintenance of this manageable, we used a property, called "LoginRequired", which is checked by our standard_html_header. If a user tries to access a document which has this property set, without being logged in, we redirect her to the login page. The thing is, it is very convenient to assume, while developing, that if you set the "LoginRequired" property, a user executing your code is logged in; thus, the code in many places assumes things like a user_id in the session data. This, in turn, means that if the redirection is done with RESPONSE.redirect, a Zope Error will occur in the processing of the page. What we really want to do at this point is just stop the processing -- and we can do that by a <dtml-raise Redirect>. The tricky part is, that an intelligent site, once the user has logged in, takes her to the page she asked to see in the first place. For this, we need to keep some data -- like, where she was going, so we can redirect her there after she logs in; and the natural place for such info is in the session. But raising an exception (like a Redirect) causes all data changes to be rolled back, so we have a problem. Up to now, we have been using SQLSession; there, we could force a database commit before raising the Redirect exception. This is an ugly kludge, but it worked. Now we want to switch to CoreSessionTracking, and I see no nice or kludgey way to do it there. Any ideas? Thanks, Shai.

Re: [Zope] RE: [ZCommerce] RE: Philip leaves Arsdigita (was: Re:[Zope]kerberos ? + LDAP + ecommerce + ZEO replication etc)
by Richard Volpato 05 Apr '01

I am new to this list. I had been seeking insights and tools to run zope with ecommerce. The blend of zope with OpenACS ecommerce seems just right. Maybe DC need not do it, but it seems obvious to me that it should * encourage and direct * such a project. Current projects do not seem up to it. Albert Langer seems keen on (even zealous) about the project - co-opt him in some way, if you have to. E-commerce is an application. But the OpenACS version makes it an 'infra-structure' for community building. This 'community enabling infrastructure' (Open)ACS really understands. It's an understanding embedded in its SQL. They know how to transform a 'customer' into a 'member'. I see no evidence that the zope community understands this deep wisdom about the nature of e-commerce as a 'collaborative co-production' rather than a simple transaction. Ironically, zope seems ideally suited to leverage this wisdom and its tools. In particular, from interview comments I noticed from Paul E., the zope people really understand the value of meta-data and collecting it 'on the fly'. It is a small step to extending the source of 'meta-data' from users and documents to *fellow*-users and *linked* documents respectively. This gets you to 'collaborative filtering'. It's also a small step for the resulting 'customers - cum - members' to access e-commerce in order to buy documents and services found within the trusted environs of their digital 'community'. Inevitably, Zope will need ecommerce - content management with 'delegation', meta-data, dynamic publishing etc *without* an e-commerce infra-structure seems misguided. It's probably a mind-set: meta-data, dynamic publishing, etc involve web applications and server technologies, not so much industrial strength transaction databases. Postgresql with its enhancements means Zope could offer a new vision about transacting on the web, just like it has on publishing on the web. To simply think 'e-commerce' is just some business 'extra' is to be missing the wood for the trees. Strike now! while the OpenACS developer community looks for new alliances to restore their faith in 'open-source'. For my part, even an announcement that DC was 'investigating' would be enough to convince my clients that this would be the way to go - thus getting some resource to help in the effort. I can't be alone in this. Richard Volpato

Xron on Zope v.2.3.1
by Spicklemire, Jerry 05 Apr '01

Chris mentioned: > Something Loren e-mailed me a few weeks ago spurred me to check the > permissions Xron has as it runs--it basically runs as an anonymous user and > has to have a proxy permission setting in order to perform certain > operations. This doesn't apply when you're logged in and triggering the > method since it's then running as "you." Good idea! I'll double check Xron's proxy setting and make sure it's set to "manager". Thanks, Jerry S.

DTML error...
by Hostway Generic 05 Apr '01

First of all, I can't stand how Zope acutally runs inputted dtml through its parser to check for errors or whatever, when you 'Save changes' on a website... and then looses the changes...sigh. :) I'm having a problem with the following script, it gives me an error when I save, that its missing a closing <dtml-sendmail> tag. -------- start --------- <table width="100%" cellspacing="6" cellpadding="0" border="0"> <tr> <td width="150" valign="top"><dtml-var standard_menubar></td> <td align="middle" valign="top"> <dtml-try> <dtml-sendmail mailhost="MailHost"> To: <dtml-if expr="AUTHENTICATED_USER.getUserName() != 'Anonymous User'"> <dtml-var Message_To> <dtml-else> metatron(a)myseraph.org </dtml-if> From: <dtml-var expr="AUTHENTICATED_USER.getUserName()"> (mySeraph.org User) Subject: <dtml-var Message_Subject> You have been sent a message from the mySeraph.org website. The message is from: <dtml-var expr="AUTHENTICATED_USER.getUserName()"> Please note that you can not respond to this message in email. <dtml-if expr="AUTHENTICATED_USER.getUserName() != 'Anonymous User'> You may reply to the sender by entering a message into the following site: http://www.mySeraph.org/Contact/?Message_To=<dtml-var expr="AUTHENTICATED_USER.getUserName()"> Message as follows: ---------------------------------------------------- <dtml-var Message_Text> ---------------------------------------------------- Message end. </dtml-sendmail> <dtml-except> <h2>Ack! Images and dtml-var?
by Chris Muldrow 05 Apr '01

OK, hopefully a simple question: I have an image object called BlueDot. We're running Zope behind Apache proxy pass. What takes more system resources to display the image, <dtml-var BlueDot> or <img src="BlueDot>? Or is it the same? Thanks! - Chris -- Chris Muldrow, muldrow(a)mac.com
