User logoff
by Bodo Bauer 24 Feb '01

24 Feb '01

Hi, it seems like a simple question, but I didn't any mentioning on zope.org. Which function has to be called to log off Zope once you're authorized with the system? I'd like to have a 'logoff' button on my site that allows to log off and i.e. log on as another user from the same browser. How to define a default security profile for ZClass instance?
by Dirksen 24 Feb '01

24 Feb '01

Hi, I'd like to have instances of my ZClass deny the rights of 'access content information' and 'view' from anonymous users, as soon as they are created. It's as well desirable to be able to change the ZClass instances' security profile at one stroke. An usual solution would be to create a folder with those settings to house the ZClass instances. Yet my ZClass instances are required to scatter around in my site, thus I need unusual solutions. I played with the 'Define Permissions' tab for the ZClass definition, but only to find out any modification there doesn't seem to have any effect on the instances. Any clues, suggestions are welcome! Cheers Dirksen __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get email at your own domain with Yahoo! Mail. http://personal.mail.yahoo.com/

Re: [Zope] DCOracle and chars over 128

We have had similar problems. However, it had nothing to do with DCOracle but with the Oracle client library configuration. You can tell it about the character set the client should use. Dieter

Help eMail this page to a friend
by Loren Stafford 24 Feb '01

24 Feb '01

I'm trying to make a global method to implement the "eMail this page to a friend" function I've seen on many sites. (Surely someone has already done this for Zope, but I don't see How-To or email on the subject.) What I have so far is this: <dtml-with "PARENTS[-1]"><dtml-sendmail mailhost=MailHost> To: <dtml-var eMailThisPageTo>@morphics.com Reply-to: <dtml-var "AUTHENTICATED_USER.getUserName()">@morphics.com From: webserver Subject: <dtml-var URL1> <dtml-mime type="text/html" encode="7bit"> <dtml-var "REQUEST.resolve_url(URL1)"> </dtml-mime> </dtml-sendmail></dtml-with "PARENTS[-1]"> But it just emails the text of the method that called it. E.g. <dtml-var standard_html_header> <h2><dtml-var title_or_id></h2> <ul> <li><a href="http://helpdesk/">"Perfect Tracker" Help Desk</a> </ul> <dtml-var titlelist> <ul> <li><a href="http://search.support.microsoft.com/kb/c.asp?fr=0&SD=GN&LN=EN-US" >Microsoft Technical Support</a>. </ul> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> How do I make it render (i.e. process the DTML in) the method that called it? -- Thanks -- Loren

Accessing MS Access through Zope
by complaw＠hal-pc.org 23 Feb '01

I have an Access database that I want to "access" and submit SQL statements (and display the results via Zope). Has anyone done that successfully? If so, can you give me afew hints? The Access database does not reside on the same box as Zope. My Linux box (with Zope) sits on a Novell network that talks to the NT servers. Thanks in advance, Ron

Zope book now in public CVS
by Michel Pelletier 23 Feb '01

23 Feb '01

Greetings! The Zope book is now available in raw (structured text) format in a sourceforge CVS repository. We are also using SF's bug tracking and other tools to allow you better report problems to us than just email. If you'd like to check the book out of CVS, follow the instructions on this page under 'Anonymous CVS Access': http://sourceforge.net/cvs/?group_id=21038 What does this do for you? Well, first off, if you see problems in the book and you'd like to fix them, you can submit a patch to us instead of an email "describing" your suggested fix in prose. This is much more accurate for us to see the problem you point out. Tracking patches also gives us a nice mechanism for making sure we give patch-submitters honorable mention in the book! Also, some people may want to distribute the book (in accordance with the OPL license, or course) in some format we don't support yet, like LaTeX or Word (yes, PDF is coming, we're working on it!). With "the source" you are free to go about converting the content into whatever format you'd like. Lastly, although we try to keep the site as in-sync as possible with the CVS, the latest and greatest bug changes to the book may be found in CVS, where the web-site may lag a few days behind. So check it out, and enjoy. -Michel

Newbie can't get ZB Ch3 example to work
by Linda Timberlake 23 Feb '01

23 Feb '01

Hi, I'm new to Zope and am working through the Zope book examples. I'm stuck on the compound interest rates example, found in Chapter 3 under the "Using Scripts" section. I can't get the python script in that example to work, using Zope 2.3.0. I copied the entire example into Zope and tried to exercise it by going to the "View" tab on the interestRateForm DTML method. I typed in valid integers for the 4 parameters and pressed the "Calculate" button. I got: ErrorType: TypeError Error Value: not enough arguments; expected 4, got 0 So, to simplify, I went directly to the Python script "calculateCompoundingInterest" , added string.atoi lines to avoid "can't multiply sequence with non-int" type errors on input, and tried to run the script directly via the "Test" tab. Now I get: Error Type: TypeError Error Value: not enough arguments; expected 4, got 3 Here's my python script (I do have the 4 parameters separated by commas in the script's "Parameter list" area): """ Calculate compounding interest. Accepts four parameters, "principal", "interest rate", "periods" and "years". """ # I added the next 5 lines so could test this script directly via Test tab. import string principal=string.atoi(principal) interest_rate=string.atoi(interest_rate) years=string.atoi(years) periods=string.atoi(periods) i = periods * interest_rate i = i + 1 n= periods * years return pow((1+i), n) * principal Thanks for any help. -Linda
