RE: [Zope] Should I switch to Python 1.5.2?

A strange thing indeed. Even more exciting is that you can do this: import string for foo in string.split('this is a test', ' '): pass foo = string.split('this is a test', ' ') But not this: import string foo = string.split('this is a test', ' ') for foo in string.split('this is a test', ' '): pass Beats me. _______________________ Ron Bickers Logic Etc, Inc. rbickers(a)logicetc.com > -----Original Message----- > From: Kyler B. Questions on XML Document Product
by Dirksen 10 Feb '01

10 Feb '01

Hi, Here are my questions: 1. How XML Document Object handle the storage, in a big chunk of string property and make a virtual Zope object tree, or actually break it into a collection of real Zope objects? 2. How does it fare with large XML document, say 1 Meg? Will it stand well to frequent modifications? Is it an economical solution for the cases that only parts of the big document are needed at a time? RE: [Zope] HELP! I Can't Add Users!!!

Make sure the user that runs zope has write permissions to /apache/Zope-2.2.4-linux2-x86 and /apache/Zope-2.2.4-linux2-x86/var directories. If you change the z2.py script parameters to -r, zope will run read-only and will not write any log files. http://www.zope.org/Members/mcdonc/HowTos/DEBUG-LOG tells you how to analyze the detailed logs. Display TraceBack in the standard_error_message
by Olivier Deckmyn 09 Feb '01

09 Feb '01

Hi all, I wonder how I can display error traceback inside standard_error_message (in fact, it's only to automatically email it in case of error, with REQUEST, errortype, etc...) I am aware of "DEBUG" feature that displays the Traceback at bottom of error pages if Zope is running in debug mode : this is not what I mean. I need to display/use it through a <dtml-var xxx> tag, so that I can insert it in the body of my debug email. Thanx for your support. Olivier. --- We are Micro$oft. You will be assimilated. Uh. no. I'm a Christian, but Timbuktu was home to many Muslim scholars. The weather is Sunny. Light winds from the northeast. High of 95F(32C) with an overnight low of 54F(12C) http://www.intellicast.com/LocalWeather/World/Africa/Mali/Tombouctou/Forecas t/ (I'm in Oklahoma :) Like what problems with PCGI? Who knows? Look through your log file /apache/Zope-2.2.4-linux2-x86/var/Z2.log If that doesn't help, try setting up a DETAILED_LOG_FILE. There is a line in z2.py that lets you set this up. Search for DETAILED_LOG_FILE. It still seems fishy that the server is dying every few hours. Are you using any special products? My newly installed (from source code) Zope2.3.0/Zserver (not pcgi/apache) on Debian 2.2 has been up 9 days with no problems and I expect it will run until I add a new product or decide to upgrade zope. I use Hurrah Internet for one of my Zope sites, and have been pleased with their service, support, and pricing. http://www.hurrah.com/ A Zope installation can be included free with their Standard package ($25/month). It is your own installation, so you have control over products, etc. -- Kit O'Connell kito(a)clearcommerce.com 'yes is a world & in this world of yes live (skilfully curled) all worlds' - e.e. cummings -----Original Message----- From: Farrell, Troy [mailto:troy.farrell@wilcom.com] Sent: Friday, February 09, 2001 1:08 PM To: 'David Legg'; zope(a)zope.org Subject: RE: [Zope] Zope Web Hosting For a slightly less biased perspective, see the Zope Solutions Providers page: http://www.zope.org/Resources/ZSP Troy -----Original Message----- From: David Legg [mailto:d.legg@ncl.ac.uk] Sent: Thursday, February 08, 2001 6:42 AM To: zope(a)zope.org Subject: [Zope] Zope Web Hosting Hi, Is there good any organisations and people out there who are allowing people to host their own websites on a Zope server, and if so, who are the best and how much? ZClass inheritance and properties (Zope 2.3.0)
by Oliver Frommel 09 Feb '01

09 Feb '01

Hello, I found another more subtle problem with ZClass properties. When I create two ZClasses, one of which is the parent of the other, some properties seem not be inherited properly. I create one class ("parent") with parent classes ZObject, CatalogAwareBase and ZObjectManager. This class has among others a property called "date1" of type Date. I create another class ("child") with parent classes ZObject, parent (from above) and ZDTMLDocument. Now the problem is that the date1 property is not set properly when I put a new value for "date1" an the REQUEST and call propertysheets.Basic.manage_editProperties(REQUEST) (which updates all other properties of "child" properly). Also "date1" doesn't show up in the properties tab of any "child" object. (Are inherited properties meant to do this??? If not it might be a good idea that they do. The property sheet should maybe show inherited properties in a different color etc.) However when I try to create a new property called "date1" in the "child" property sheet I get an error: "Invalid property id, date1. It is in use." Is this the right way I am using kind of multiple inheritance here? What am I doing wrong? (I am running Zope 2.3.0 on RedHat Linux 6.0) Thanks --Oliver

RE: [Zope] Newbie needs help with permissions/authorization syste m
by Farrell, Troy 09 Feb '01

In the interest of time, I won't try this one in French :) Hmmm. A key error in a ZClass. This reminds me of some of the difficulties of ZSQL methods in ZClasses: not having a connection in the ZClass so we can't add a method. Try adding a Mail Host in the methods of DerivedClass. If that works, then we need to make sure that anonymous users have access to the MailHost object either directly in the ZClass or by way of acquision. I'm about to exhaust my knowledge of ZClasses, so someone who knows more can feel free to add info here. Adding the Manage properties worked, but now I get a "KeyError" for MailHost, whereas another Product/Zclass uses it without any problem. > Also, I don't think it's possible to transform a ZClass into python. > You must rewrite the code.
