If it is at /folder/IWannaPutMyZClassHere, you are looking for the "Security" tab inside /folder Also, I don't think it's possible to transform a ZClass into python. You must rewrite the code. synchronize ZOPE passwords - Unix passwords
by Andrei Belitski 09 Feb '01

09 Feb '01

Hi! Is there a possibility to make ZOPE use the passwords of standard Linux system users? So if a user of the Linux machine has changed his password it should also automatically change his password in ZOPE system (not nessesarily immediately, but e.g. before he logs in ZOPE) How it is possible to change the roles of a ZOPE user in synchronization with groups in Linux? I can access Linux user-group-password structures from Python, but could I compare and modify ZOPE user passwords in Python, and how? thank you in advance Andrey

1) You must have Manage Properties permission where you try to add the ZClass if it gets it's permissions by acquision 2) Under Control_Panel/Products/DeriveClass/DeriveClass/ < Define Permissions > tab ensure that Permission for this Object: Manage Properties = Manage Properties 3) Under Control_Panel/Products/DeriveClass/DerviceClass/propertysheets/common/NameOf PropertySheet/ < Define Permissions > tab ensure that Permission for this Object: Manage Properties = Manage Properties Hope that works. Linux, Zope, Python versions not playing well together?
by Gary Perez 09 Feb '01

09 Feb '01

Hello, all. Quick background info: Developing on Linux box (2.2.x kernel) w/ Python 1.5.2 + Zope 2.2.2. (Call it "DevBox") The Powers That Be have said actual "production" platform is Linux 2.4.1 kernel, Python 2.0, Zope 2.2.2. (Call it "ProdBox"). So I: 1. Stop Zope on both boxes. 2. Move $/Zope/var/Data.fs* and $/Zope/Extensions/* from DevBox to ProdBox, untar/gunzip Products on ProdBox. 3. Verify/adjust permissions as necessary. 4. Start Zope on ProdBox (running as user "zope", not root). ProdBox runs (seemingly) okay w/ stuff from DevBox, except... A. Zope start up errors: WARNING: Python C API version mismatch for module cStringIO: This Python has API version 1009, module cStringIO has version 1007. (This module plus a list of 25 other modules.) They don't keep Zope from running, but I wonder if this is the root of my other problems(?). Anyone know of incompatibility issues b/w Zope 2.2.2 and Python 2.0? B. Also, user logins kill Zope, but it restarts on its own. Example: Went to http://ProdBox. Cool. Went to http://ProdBox/Folder. Cool. Went to http://ProdBox/Folder/DTMLMethod. (User login required) username: ***** password: ***** "Server not responding, using cached copy" error (wtf?). In my telnet window, I see text scrolling because Zope just started (restarted). Click click click, all is seemingly well now... Went to http://ProdBox/manage (Zope management interface, different user login required) username: ***** password: ***** "Server not responding, using cached copy" error (wtff?). In my telnet window, I see text scrolling because Zope just started (restarted) yet again. Anyone have any idea why Zope is dying and instantly starting up again (as far as I can tell it only happens @ login)? Could this be related to the Z2.2.2/P2.0 incompatibility issue (if any)? I'm wary of upgrading to Zope 2.3.0 based on problems I had last time I upgraded (lots of stuff 'broke' in the transition), but not 100% adverse to the prospect of doing so. Any ideas, suggestions, fixes, zen, or anything like that? Any/all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks. -Gary

Oops. I misspelled it. Try Islamic monks. As for air service to timbuktu, I know one of the guys who flys there :) http://www.thesalmons.org/lynn/wh-timbuktu.html To see what options you are passing, try this: less /apache/Zope-2.2.4-linux2-x86/start I looks like you'll see something like: #! /bin/sh reldir=`dirname $0` PYTHONHOME=`cd $reldir; pwd` export PYTHONHOME exec /usr/bin/python \ $PYTHONHOME/z2.py \ -D "$@" Note the -D option. This runs zope in debug mode and zope won't let go of the terminal. These options are explained in /apache/Zope-2.2.4-linux2-x86/z2.py I generally use something like z2.py -X -w80 to disable FTP and monitor and run http on port 80. You may also be experiencing some problems with pcgi if you are using it with Apache. Newbie needs help with permissions/authorization system

Frankly, I don't know what the owner group is for. As for the restart issue, that, we can trouble shoot. Why does it need to be restarted? What platform are you on? What are the flags you are passing to the z2.py start up script in the start/start.bat script? What is the weather like in Timbukto (hot,dry and windy))? Troy -----Original Message----- From: Ben Ocean [mailto:beno@thewebsons.com] Sent: Friday, February 09, 2001 10:49 AM To: Farrell, Troy Subject: RE: [Zope] HELP! I Can't Add Users!!! Thanks, Troy. You pointed out I have to add a user as *manager*. I did and it worked :) I had done this successfully before as well. But don't I want to add an owner? Or is that function reserved solely for superuser and is what is meant by superuser? If so, I presume I can add owners for folders I create but not for the root, correct? Also, why does my Zope always have to be restarted every few hours? TIA, BenO

FreeBSD "new" bugg

Hi, Can anyone tell me what the "new" bugg is and how to solve it when installing Zope from source on a FreeBSD? Does this bugg occur on other BSD's as well? Regards, Johan Carlsson PS. Cat get the Zope-2.3.0 port for FreeBSD to install correctly either, but this might be my bad. RE: [Zope] RESPONSE.redirect in Python Script?

It turns out that the only way to do a redirect in an Access Rule is through a raise redirect since the return value of an Access Rule is ignored. So, again thanks to Evan for this nugget, here's the way to a redirect in a Python Script-based Access Rule: if host == 'foo.com': raise 'Redirect', 'http://www.foo.com' > On Friday 09 February 2001 11:44, Walter Miller wrote: > > I get this error: > > > > Error Type: NameError > > Error Value: RESPONSE > > > > > > I'm actually trying to do this in an Access Rule to be used > along with a > > VHM (much thanks to Evan for helping me get that set up). > The code goes > > something like this: > > > > """ > > host = req['HTTP_HOST'] > > stack = req['TraversalRequestNameStack'] > > > > if host == 'www.foo.com': > > stack.extend(['VirtualHostRoot', 'foo', 'vhosts']) > > elif host == 'foo.com': > > return RESPONSE.redirect('http://www.foo.com') > > """ > > > > BTW, I'm using 2.3.0 on FreeBSD 4.2 > > > > What parameters are you passing to the method?
