Hello Ben. Don't try to hack the ZODB. If you have to start hacking it, you won't be able to stop. It will become corrupt and then the system goes boom. I don't know from your question what platform you are using, but I will try to help. *N[IU]X->Delete your Zope directory. tar -zxvf Zope-2.3.0.tgz to unzip all the files. This should recreate the zope directory. see the Zope Book http://www.zope.org/Members/michel/ZB/UsingZope.html for install intructions. Login as the superuser. Add a user IN THE MANAGE GROUP. **CLOSE YOUR BROWSER** Login as the new user. Away we go... Win32 -> Go to the zope directory and run UNWISE.exe to uninstall Zope. Run the zope installer. This will prompt you for a superuser name and password Start Zope. Login as superuser. Add a user IN THE MANAGE GROUP. **CLOSE YOUR BROWSER** Login as the new user. Away we go... Re: [Zope] alternative storage managers ?
by Ben Edwards 09 Feb '01

Not sure if this helps but it sounds to me like you may want to look at storing the data in a rdbms. MySQL, ProgresSQL and Interbase are the free ones (not entily sure if this is true for interbase). I know oracle could do this (but of course it is expensive). Also the platform you are using is probably important for this type of stuff (i.e. go for unix). >Hi, > >I would like to store several huge data-objects (10Mb and more) in the >ZODB by use of ZOPE (Zope-2.3.0b1), but in my first tries I discovered, >that the access to folders that include several huge objects becomes very slow. >I already tested the BerkeleyDB as an alternative --- it helped a little >bit, but I had problems to get rid of unreferenzed objects by packing the >BerkeleyDB; only the referenzes were deleted, but not the >corresponding data in the BerkeleyDB. > >Does anybody know, if there are other alternative storage managers >available? Zope memory usage out of control
by Navindra Umanee 09 Feb '01

09 Feb '01

Hi! First of all let me just say what a wonderful system Zope is. We've been running dot.kde.org on a Squishdot/Zope setup very successfully for a quite a while now. Unfortunately, the admin of the server is getting a bit edgy about the increasing memory usage of Zope and is pressing for action. From the very start we've had to restart Zope daily (with a cron job) because Zope would be using large amounts of memory after several hours. After 15 hours of uptime this is the current situation as reported by top: PID USER PRI NI SIZE RSS SHARE STAT LIB %CPU %MEM TIME COMMAND 12093 zope 0 0 94988 90M 796 S 0 0.7 11.9 9:01 python 12122 zope 0 0 94988 90M 796 S 0 0.0 11.9 0:03 python 12123 zope 0 0 94988 90M 796 S 0 0.3 11.9 32:56 python 12124 zope 4 0 94988 90M 796 S 0 15.4 11.9 33:06 python 12125 zope 0 0 94988 90M 796 S 0 0.0 11.9 33:10 python 12126 zope 0 0 94988 90M 796 S 0 0.0 11.9 36:52 python Please tell me that's really a single process with several threads all sharing memory? :-) dot.kde.org is certainly a very busy site, is this the kind of memory usage to be expected from Zope? Has anyone seen this kind of problem before? We're using Zope 2.2.1 with the hotfixes on a Red Hat Linux box. Any hints short of switching to another news system appreciated (the SlashCode guys have been on our case). ;) Thanks, Navin. PS I'm not sure if my confirmation of subscription worked or not, please Cc: navindra(a)cs.mcgill.ca meanwhile, otherwise I'll just check the archives.

Gettin gZMySQLDA to work on win98
by Eric Casteleijn 09 Feb '01

09 Feb '01

I'm an experienced programmer just starting with zope, running into big trouble getting Zope an MySQL to work on my win98 test-/dev-box. I think the mySQL install is fine, since i tested it with the client that came with it. The Zope install works fine too (i tried both 2.2.5 and 2.3.0). After installing the ZMySQLDA Product, (following the necessary steps for winxx closely.), my Zope-process crashes with a windows-error when i: 1) try to add a database connection 2) try to open a database connection 3) try a test query on a database connection 4) sometimes even when i try to visit the man. screen in my browser. It may have to do with using an incorrect connection string (i'm new to MySQL too), but am i wrong in thinking that even that should not cause win-errors? Also is it me or are the winxx installation how-tos and readmes all telling me different things? (Esp. regarding where to put the .dll and the .pyd)? Any help would be greatly appreciated, as i feel quite low on zope-zen at this point. eric P.S. I already put this question to zopezen.org. Someone there suggested i mail it to this list. ---------------------- eric casteleijn eric(a)codenamefuture.nl t 070 302 47 81 f 070 364 49 34 Codename Future Zeestraat 71 2518 AA Den Haag ----------------------

I just re-installed Zope. I can add users and all *appears* to be in order. But when I go to log in as said users I CANNOT. Sometimes I can log in as a user other than superuser but *only* if that user has manage capabilities: not owner. What on earth is going on?
