RE: Tools used for programming Zope

Hi Gerald, >> http://www.zope.org/Members/sspickle/ZCVSMixin > Since this converts between CVS and Zope already, have you > thought about the possibility of exporting it directly onto > the filesystem? Since CVS is file based, everything you export is stored as a file during the CVS phase. One of the remaining puzzles is how to improve management of Zope Objects that aren't very "file like", such as ZClasses. The file representation of these are less directly editable, but at the very least you can tell when and who made updates, and quickly see what has changed. Later, Jerry S.

Calling ZSQL from PythonMethods (was RE: [Zope] ZSQL, Python meth ods and XMLRPC) ods and XMLRPC)
by Mayers, Philip J 19 Jan '01

Hmm - with regard calling ZSQL method from PythonMethod, this works: def pythonmethod(self): a = [] for v in self.SQL_list_something(): a.append(v.field) return a <dtml-var pythonmethod> *But* of course I can't pass "self" over XMLRPC. Why does self.ZSQL_method() work, but: def pythonmethod(meth): a = [] for v in meth(): a.append(v.field) return a <dtml-var "pythonmethod(ZSQL_method)"> Give "__call__ not defined"? Regards, Phil +----------------------------------+ | Phil Mayers, Network Support | | Centre for Computing Services | | Imperial College | +----------------------------------+ -----Original Message----- From: Mayers, Philip J [mailto:p.mayers@ic.ac.uk] Sent: 18 January 2001 22:37 To: 'zope(a)zope.org' Subject: [Zope] ZSQL, Python methods and XMLRPC I've three questions (but I'm making progress!): 1) In 2.2.5, how can I call a ZSQL method from a Python Method - I'm passing the method in as a parameter, and the furthest I get says "__call__ not defined". Do PythonScripts obivate the need for this? I assume I can just do this: for record in context.folder.subfolder.SQL_method(val1='a',val2='b'): # do stuff Does that work? 2) When calling a DTML method over XMLRPC, <dtml-in "SQL_method(username=AUTHENTICATED_USER)"> doesn't work, but <dtml-in "SQL_method(username=REQUEST.AUTHENTICATED_USER)"> does. Why? 3) Why aren't record values (the return of an SQL method) marshallable over XMLRPC. I get this: cannot marshal <extension class ExtensionClass at 70356ff4> objects Regards, Phil _______________________________________________ Zope maillist - Zope(a)zope.org http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope ** No cross posts or HTML encoding! ** (Related lists - http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-announce http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-dev )

Reading ZClass properties from outside the ZClass
by Phill Hugo 19 Jan '01

19 Jan '01

I have a ZClass, "MyZClass" which contains 2 propertysheets, "PublicInfo" and "PrivateInfo". PublicInfo contains Selections produced from Lists in PrivateInfo. Works wonderfully, however in the site I wish to get at the PrivateInfo items without touching an Instance of MyZClass (Its easy that way but I cannot be sure that instance will always be there). Basically I need to do something like... <dtml-in "Control_Panel.Products.XYZProduct.MyZClass.propertysheets.PrivateInfo.getProperty('MyList')"> This works when logged in as an Administrator as the Control_Panel is visible then, however for normal users it fails. Is there a way to get at these details without asking an instance? I'm assuming that the answer is no due to the security aspect but it would be preferable in this case to have the List in the ZClass rather than in the site content (perhaps in the root folder properties). I've suppose I could use a Proxy role but I wonder if there is something as simple as.. <dtml-in "MyZClass.MyList"> without doing <dtml-in "MyInstanceOfMyZClass.MyList"> Phill

RE: [Zope] Another problem with Login Manager

Yes, I've seen that and would love to know what causes it. I didn't find out why, but it isn't doing it now. It may be to di with the Roles the user has. But if I want to change the userAuthenticate Method there was a problem. I can´t get into the Managementview of my testfolder. Always when I click on the testfolder in the Managementscreen of ZOPE, it returns the index_html of the testfolder in the viewscreen and not in the managementscreen. This problem only returns when I login with my User. With other users it doesn´t. Arguments in URLs with bookmarks
by Michael W. Homyack 19 Jan '01

19 Jan '01

Hi, I've just run across something sort of odd... Let's say I have a DTML Document 'x' in my site, and I am going to link to it with the following URL: http://www.mysite.com/x?arga=one&argb=two When Zope processes the URL, the query arguments arga and argb are stored in the REQUEST object, and I can refer to them in DTML like this: <dtml-var name="arga"> Now, let's say that I need to have the URL include a bookmark to a point deeper in the page. The URL now becomes: http://www.mysite.com/x#gotohere?arga=one&argb=two On RedHat, using Netscape 4.76, the query arguments get passed into the REQUEST object properly. On Windows, using either IE 5.x or Netscape 6, the query arguments seem to disappear entirely. The same behavior is also apparent using Opera 4.0b4 on RedHat. Since the query arguments don't make it into the REQUEST object, the dtml-var line above results in a KeyError. Although I could protect myself from the KeyError easily enough, what I really need is the values passed in the URL. This is using Zope 2.2.4 running on RedHat Linux, BTW. Does anyone have an idea why adding the bookmark is causing Zope to fail in parsing the URL? Is there an alternative syntax for the URL that will both pass the arguments and goto the right point on the page? Thanks, Mike. -- -- Michael W. Zope vs. Apple's WebObjects
by Etienne Labuschagne 19 Jan '01

19 Jan '01

Hi all A friend of mine knows Apple's WebOjects and Enterprise Object framework quite well and is quite impressed with it. He wants to know if there is a "nutshell" comparison between this product and Zope and how they compare (apart obviously from the eh, slight price difference!). Any pointers or comments will be greatly appreciated! Etienne Tel: (012) 348 4586 Cel: 082 442 8981 Fax: (012) 361 8355
