Re: "Find" broken in 2.2.2
by Chris McDonough 19 Jan '01

Hi Ty, The find machinery searches subobjects for the method 'PrincipiaSearchSource' on each object it finds in the hierarchy... DTML Methods and Documents, PythonScripts, and (believe it or not) database adapters support this method, but no other core objects do. This is probably why it's returning unhelpful results. If you define a PrincipiaSearchSource method on the objects you're looking to search, maybe the results will be better. The find machinery needs work. ;-) PS - FYI: your "newsgroup" setup makes replying to your messages kind of difficult... although it's probably because I'm using a dumb email client. I generally can't respond to your messages, I need to send new ones. Using Apache to authenticate
by twm139＠its.to 19 Jan '01

19 Jan '01

Hello, I am trying to get Apache to handle authentication and pass the REMOTE_USER enviroment variable. Unfortunately I seem to be missing some key parts of the process. I have found two discussions of this topic, one in the online docs, and one in the WEBSERVER.TXT. Both of them seem to be a little incomplete, but neither fills in all the holes of the other. The problem I am having is with the following in the WEBSERVER.TXT *Note*: The above presumes that '/cgi-bin/Zope' has been made executable by some other Apache directive in the configuration file. What exactly are they trying to get at here? Do I make a directory under cgi-bin called Zope? Do I put Zope.cgi in it? Do I do some sort of mapping from a ScriptAlias of /cgi-bin/zope/ to the zope.cgi file? I am a bit confused. If anyone has set this up I would love a clipping from your httpd.conf file. Or just a clarification. BTW: The reason I am doing it this way is that I am using mod_pam to authenticate my web server and I would like to use the same for Zope, this seemed the best way. Also I need Apache for SSL. Cheers, Terrence

another SENDMAIL query

Hi there, I have another question re: sendmail, which I'd be grateful if someone could answer. Am I correct in saying that <sendmail> does not support newsgroup postings? Adding the following to my message seems to work but it is not being posted on the newsgroup... To: lreilly(a)cs.strath.ac.uk Groups: uk.local.glasgow *and* Newsroups: uk.local.glasgow It sends the mail to me; the group is listed in the header file under 'Newsgroups' when I view *my* received message but it is not getting to the newsgroup. Can anyone comment? Thanks a lot :) - Best regards, Lee -- Lee Reilly mailto:lee.reilly@ntlworld.com ø¤º°`°º¤ø,,,,ø¤º°`°º¤ø,,,,ø¤º°`°º¤ø,,,,ø¤º°`°º¤ø,,,, HAVE SKILLS; WILL TRAVEL. Security error when inserting object from my own Python product in objectmanager
by Max M 19 Jan '01

19 Jan '01

I have made a Python product and when I add it to a folder there is no problem, but when I try to add it to a zClass that subclasses a objectManager i get a security error. Is there anything special I need to do to add products to an objectManager ??? I get a password box, but if I just clicks cancel it inserts the object just fine. So it kind of works, but it looks somewhat sloppy to get a page full of errormessages when inserting an object. ;-) regards Max M Traceback (innermost last): File C:\mxmZope\lib\python\ZPublisher\Publish.py, line 222, in publish_module File C:\mxmZope\lib\python\ZPublisher\Publish.py, line 187, in publish File C:\mxmZope\lib\python\ZPublisher\Publish.py, line 171, in publish File C:\mxmZope\lib\python\ZPublisher\mapply.py, line 160, in mapply (Object: index_html) File C:\mxmZope\lib\python\ZPublisher\Publish.py, line 112, in call_object (Object: index_html) File C:\mxmZope\lib\python\OFS\DTMLMethod.py, line 172, in __call__ (Object: index_html) File C:\mxmZope\lib\python\DocumentTemplate\DT_String.py, line 528, in __call__ (Object: index_html) File C:\mxmZope\lib\python\OFS\DTMLMethod.py, line 168, in __call__ (Object: twoCols) File C:\mxmZope\lib\python\DocumentTemplate\DT_String.py, line 528, in __call__ (Object: twoCols) File C:\mxmZope\lib\python\DocumentTemplate\DT_Var.py, line 271, in render (Object: right) File C:\mxmZope\lib\python\OFS\DTMLMethod.py, line 168, in __call__ (Object: right) File C:\mxmZope\lib\python\DocumentTemplate\DT_String.py, line 528, in __call__ (Object: right) File C:\mxmZope\lib\python\OFS\DTMLMethod.py, line 194, in validate (Object: index_html) File C:\mxmZope\lib\python\AccessControl\SecurityManager.py, line 139, in validate File C:\mxmZope\lib\python\AccessControl\ZopeSecurityPolicy.py, line 159, in validate Unauthorized: title Max M. ANNOUNCE: Zope 2.3.0 beta 1 released
by Brian Lloyd 18 Jan '01

18 Jan '01

Hello all, Zope 2.3.0 beta 1 is now available. You can download it from Zope.org: http://www.zope.org/Products/Zope/2.3.0b1/ This release contains the final new features for 2.3, including: - A browser preferences screen to allow people to tweak certain aspects of the new management UI to their liking. For the folks who complained that they didn't like the new top frame, they can (among other things) turn it off from the browser preferences screen. - Michel and Amos' new QuickStart material. This is different in spirit than the old "QuickStart" folder. The new material is meant as a handy high-level set of pointers to important learning materials. The old "QuickStart" folder is still around by default for the beta release - we will need to decide whether to get rid of it altogether or whether it still has value as an example and should be cleaned up and retained. - The logout function has been implemented in a fairly minimal way. We will try to make this nicer by final if we get time. - Chris Petrilli has cleaned up the ZCatalog interface and done some logical reorganization to move some things onto an Advanced tab. For more information on what is new in this release, see the CHANGES.txt and HISTORY.txt files for the release: - http://www.zope.org/Products/Zope/2.3.0b1/CHANGES.txt - http://www.zope.org/Products/Zope/2.3.0b1/HISTORY.txt Note that now we are in the beta period, so binaries are now available for all of the usual platforms. After adding a LocalFS object I get the error below (but the object gets added OK). It seems to be related to displaying the modification time in the management screen. ZSQL, Python methods and XMLRPC
by Mayers, Philip J 18 Jan '01

18 Jan '01

I've three questions (but I'm making progress!): 1) In 2.2.5, how can I call a ZSQL method from a Python Method - I'm passing the method in as a parameter, and the furthest I get says "__call__ not defined". Do PythonScripts obivate the need for this? I assume I can just do this: for record in context.folder.subfolder.SQL_method(val1='a',val2='b'): # do stuff Does that work? 2) When calling a DTML method over XMLRPC, <dtml-in "SQL_method(username=AUTHENTICATED_USER)"> doesn't work, but <dtml-in "SQL_method(username=REQUEST.AUTHENTICATED_USER)"> does. Why? 3) Why aren't record values (the return of an SQL method) marshallable over XMLRPC. I get this: cannot marshal <extension class ExtensionClass at 70356ff4> objects Regards, Phil

Tools used for programming Zope

The ZCVSMixin product makes it fairly simple to export any subset of a site, import it locally, make changes, and reverse the process, with versioning of all non-file system objects (which you can already handle via CVS) and usable diffs for many object types. http://www.zope.org/Members/sspickle/ZCVSMixin Later, Jerry S>
