'or' queries in ZCatalogs? (and a general design question)
by Howard Jones 31 May '00

I am currently working on a toy zope project for myself, which is a historical database of sorts (it's an On The Day In History type of thing - today.thingy.com is the current version, which is somewhat broken right now). What I wanted to do was be able to 'surf' events - have them linked by the people involved, the timing of them, or some general theme, in a similar way to wikiwebs (more like imdb really). So far, I have a TodayPageItem ZClass, with some basic information (the body text, the date of the event) and a couple of 'Lines' type properties called People and Threads. In the index_html for presenting an event object, I use: <dtml-if "threads[0] != ''"> <dtml-in threads> <dtml-in "Catalog(meta_type='Today Page Item',threads=_['sequence-item'])"> <dtml-if sequence-first> <h4>Threads</h4> <ul> </dtml-if> <dtml-unless "Catalog.getobject(data_record_id_).id == PARENTS[0].id"> <li><a href="<dtml-var TodayBase><dtml-var "Catalog.getpath(data_record_id_)">"><dtml-var title></a> </dtml-unless> <dtml-if sequence-last> </ul> </dtml-if> </dtml-in> </dtml-in threads> </dtml-if> To show the related objects in the same threads as this one (objects may involve more than one thread - Inventions, and Government, for the found of the US Patent Office, for example). However, I then have a similar piece of DTML directly below it to do the same for the People list. Can I combine these? I would like to show one link only for each related object, even if it related more than one way, and also to show how they are related next to the link. According to the Advanced ZCatalog howto, the only way of doing this loads the whole lot into memory - I plan to have thousands of these! Is there some magic I'm missing? Thanks in advance for any advice (don't do it this way?), Best Regards, Howard

But remember when you are asking for DateTime object equivilancy you must be exact. Time Zone and all. What you have outlined seems like it should work, but it is less flexible. What happens when someone's appointment spans two days? Can you easily determine how long an appointment will last and figure out if there is anough time available to accomodate it? With two DateTime objects those things are quite easy. With strings it requires a lot of maipulation. I can't edit anything that has already been uploaded so I have to keep a local copy of everything. What can happen is that someone else updates a page from their local copy then I update from mine and lose the changes. The idea with WebDAV was that I could lock edit and unlock with the only copy being in the Zope database. -- Graham ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Beware of Geeks bearing GIFS. http://www.jlab.org/coda Jefferson lab DAQ group

<dtml-tree query_expr="xxx"> PATCH !
by Pierre-Julien Grizel 31 May '00

31 May '00

Hi ! In order to solve the problem I mentionned two days ago about the <dtml-tree> tag with non-persistant REQUEST.form data, I wrote a patch to apply to the Zope 2.1.6 root source path. It just adds a new tag attribute, "query_expr", to the dtml-tree tag, and you can assign this attribute the REQUEST.form value. Everything is explained on http://www.en.xlogx.org/Zope and the patch (Zope 2.1.6) is downloadable from there. I hope this helps.... P.-J.

ZDiscussions and Zope 2.2
by Cary O'Brien 31 May '00

I can't seem to add a ZDiscussions topic any more. I keep getting authorization failures. Managers are allowed to all zdiscussion topics on the security page, though. Is this related to the problem with ZSQL queries and the new permissions scheme with 2.2? -- cary

absolute_url and growing URLS????
by dillera＠isc.upenn.edu 31 May '00

31 May '00

Hello: I've got a strange problem I call "growing URLS" When I click on links that take me around a section on folders on zope, the urls just keep piling on each other. They seem to work, but now I'm getting some errors calling dtml-methods. Here is an example of a growing url: http://www.somehere.edu:8080/pn21/aaa/index_html/managem this really should be: http://www.somehere.edu:8080/pn21/managem as both MANAGEM and AAA are both peer folders together. As I jump from one folder to another I need the url to refer to that absolute path, which is what I thought absolute_url did! Here is a snippet of the code that I use to jump from folder to folder, and causes the growing urls: <P> <font face=veranda, arial size=-1><B>Jump to section:</B> <a href="<dtml-var absolute_url>/pn21">Main </a> | <a href="<dtml-var absolute_url>/WritersGuide">WG </a> | <a href="<dtml-var absolute_url>/intro">Intro </a> | <a href="<dtml-var absolute_url>/story">Story </a> | <a href="<dtml-var absolute_url>/netuse">0 </a> | <a href="<dtml-var absolute_url>/apps">1 </a> | <a href="<dtml-var absolute_url>/nad">2 </a> | <a href="<dtml-var absolute_url>/converge">3 </a> | I thought that the absolute_url in these would reset the url in the browser, but the url instead just grows and grows. How can I stop this urls from growing? -andy diller

ZServerSSL trouble
by Ivan Raikov 31 May '00

31 May '00

Hello all, I just installed ZServerSSL, and I'm having the following problem: I start Zope with the command, $ ./starts -w '' -f '' -W 8180 HTTPS=on and it appears to boot up without problems. However, when I try to access the default Zope page, Zope spits the following and dies: Traceback (innermost last): File "/home/ivan/src/Zope-2.1.6-src/z2s.py", line 681, in ? asyncore.loop() File "/home/ivan/src/Zope-2.1.6-src/ZServer/medusa/asyncore.py", line 107, in loop poll_fun (timeout) File "/home/ivan/src/Zope-2.1.6-src/ZServer/medusa/asyncore.py", line 55, in poll (r,w,e) = select.select (r,w,e, timeout) ValueError: filedescriptor out of range in select() This is my configuration: RedHat Linux 6.1 Python 1.5.2 (the RPM distribution in RH Linux 6.1) Zope 2.1.6 M2crypto 0.05-snap2 ZServerSSL 0.04 OpenSSL 0.9.5a Please help. Re: [Zope] confera, zope 2.2, and attachments
by Cary O'Brien 31 May '00

31 May '00

(Vitaly (vos(a)telenor.cz) helped me with this. The problems was that it wasn't possible to add an attachment to a ZDConfera message) Note this is with Zope 2.1.6. Thanks for the information on fixing attachments in ZDConfera. Note that the latest version of ZDiscussios (0.2.0) does use FileObject() in ZDConfera.py, but it doesn't import FileObject, and the icon is wrong. The error is masked by the try block. So the fix I used was... 0) Get ZDiscussions 1) Get Confera 2) Cope FileObject.py to lib/python/Products/ZDConfera 3) Edit ZDConfera.py 1. at the beginning add "from FileObject import FileObject" 2. change "icon='misc_/Confera/attachment.gif' to "icon='misc_/ZDConfera/attachment.gif' 4) Restart Thanks again, -- cary
