Trying out Zope and IIS

I am thinking of trying out Zope with IIS. I am I going to regret it? I need to move into the Zope world slowly as I have large amounts of stuff that needs to be converted form Perl and ASP. Running Zope from IIS using the pcgi method outlined by brianh ( http://www.zope.org/Members/brianh/iis_howto ) seems like a good route. Would anyone care to share their experience of doing this? Agh! Factory eats HTTP_REFERER!

Hi Zopistas, I'm developing a rudimentary Web-based URL directory(sort of bookmark) managing product for the Korean Python User Group. To reduce required typing, I'm trying to utilize HTTP_REFER variable, i.e. when a member find an interesting URL, he(there is no female in PyKUG, yet :-[ ) visit the bookmarked submit page, then the interesting URL appears in the submit form. ZClass Add Form works as expected if I invoke directly. But the HTTP_REFERER REQUEST variable vanishes when Adding ZClass through ZClass_factory. Does Factory chop off some REQUEST variables? If so, why? & how? I just thought of a far more kludge workaround, but still I'll appreciate any enlightenment. thanks in advance, LEE Kwan Soo

ZODBC general sql question

I've been playing with the ZODBC stuff. It's fab..... How do I create a primary_key field with an index on it? How do I auto-increment a primary_key id field? ...are there ways to do this in agnostic SQL, without having to fiddle with the respective database. I'm using Access, but would like sometime to give mySQL a whirl without changing SQL-code (much), or getting involved with whatever Front-end each database may have. Will I have to create a table of last_ids and increment the values each time I insert a new record, or is there an easier way to do it than this? cheers tom p.s Does anyone know of a resource with lots of examples of agnostic sql queries. I pretty much get the basics but it's good to see them in action rather than have them described.

Query syntax for ZCatalog

I'm using ZCatalog to index a number of different documents. I want to write a brief help page for my website users on how to structure queries to help them find what they're looking for. Does such a document exist already? If so, could someone point me to it? If not, would I have to go into the source to figure it out, or is there an easier way? Thanks, Curtis Matthews

Zope 2.2.0a1: Objects cannot be owned by the superuser

I was going to try one of my apps on Zope 2.2.0a1 (win32), finding myself in a kind of catch22 situation: I can't get in at all! After installing Zope 2.2.0a1 into a fresh directory, I login under the "superuser" account in order to get to the management screen, but can't create any folder or object. I can add users to the acl_users folder. But how, pray tell, am I expected to trigger an login as a non- superuser user? Usually, I create a folder (or another object) which is restricted to some use; accessing that object triggers the authorization request, i.e. the user/pwd dialog in the browser. In short: I am required to login as a non-superuser in order to create an object, but I am required to create an object in order to login as a non- superuser. Suggestion for management screens

I put this as a suggestion and a question as well: How do you tell what type of 'thing' a property is? Some are easy, a boolean is a checkbox, text is a field (and BTW, what's the difference between text and lines, they look identical??). But some are unremarkable: e.g.; how do you tell the difference between an int and a string if it's not obvious from the string: 336699 (as a string to be used as a bgcolor, for example) 336699 (as an integer). <suggestion> D.C., perhaps you might consider displaying the type info in addition to what's already there... </suggestion> Unless this is a newbie question and there's some real obvious answer to this that I have missed TIA, Jeff Sasmor jeff(a)sasmor.com
