hi, thanks for the help with my last (permissions) problem, i covered it by replacing the code with "known to work code" think it was being caused by a gettattrs call. could someone please tell me how I would modify the "file library" example to store an attribute with the file? (like the guest_name in message book) Thanks!! mike.

Moving to 2.7.7 will likely not get you any "free" performance increases and it doesn't appear that there are any "critical" ZODB bugfixes relating to your problems since 2.7.3. FWIW, also, I'd venture a guess that moving "off Data.fs" (as you mentioned in your original email) may be quite costly, requiring a lot of application recoding. It also might not help solve the scaling problem you're having. It's a "high risk, potentially low reward" solution. You need something that is low-risk and potentially high reward, I'd suspect. Others have said this, but it bears repeating. The biggest "administrative" win you can get for the cheapest cost is to add an HTTP cache (like Squid or even Apache's mod_proxy) in front of your ZEO clients and to cause your Zope application to set the proper response headers which allow the cache server to cache (and thus serve) those pages on subsequent requests. This can be tricky when most of your traffic is authenticated because there is usually very little win and a lot of danger to serving up cached pages when a page in the cache represents a view that a privileged user sees when visiting the site. You typically don't want other people to see the same thing he does. As a result, typically people will say "pages that require authentication can't be cached" which isn't entirely true (you can cache them but it's often useless). However, even serving up fully static content that doesn't require any authentication like CSS, images, and so on can be a win. You might start there. Defining and creating a temporary storage for each user

Hi all. My work environment is Zope 2.7.x I would like to create a different temporary storage for each user. Of course, I can't simply write them in the zope.conf. Users should have their own storage, so that they can create/modify objects inside that, without influencing the general, shared database. Is this configuration possible? I've seen I could manipulate entries in the dbtab object, but I'm not sure this is safe after the first startup. Regards Marco

Multilingual content class with LocalPropertyManager

Hi I want to build a multilingual content class with LocalPropertyManager from the Localizer product. Also, my class extends the File class, something like: class MClass(LocalPropertyManager, File): title = LocalProperty('title') description = LocalProperty('description') def __init__(self, id, title, description, file, precondition, content_type, lang): File.__dict__['__init__'](self, id, title, file, content_type, precondition) self._setLocalPropValue('title', lang, title) self._setLocalPropValue('description', lang, description) The problem is that everytime I call the title property it doesn't return the LocalProperty 'title', but instead it returns the value entered when the object was created. From a ZPT, if lang is the current selected language and is 'en': <span tal:replace="here/title" /> - don't get the correct value for the selected language <span tal:replace="python:here.getLocalProperty('title', lang)" /> - correct value Not event after editing the object properties, the 'title' value remains the same: the value entered when the object was created. I tried not to call the File constructor, but it doesn't work also. My LocalProperty 'title' is somehow 'hidden'. Could you please give me some indications about what am I doing wrong? Is there another way to have a class like MClass? Thanks a lot, Dragos

Truncating strings with DTML

Hi All, I'd like to take a string like: /Computers/Data_Formats/Almost_Every_File_Format_in_the_World and cut it down to: /Computers/Data_Formats using DTML. I've tried to count to the last "/", and then truncate the string with ljust, like so: <dtml-let strDirPathSize="_.string.rfind(strDirPath, '/')"> <dtml-let strDirPath="_.string.ljust(strDirPath, strDirPathSize)"> However, ljust/rjust won't truncate the string. In the case above, I know that I want to truncate the string to 23 characters (/Computers/Data_Formats). Is there a way to accomplish this in DTML? If not, any suggestions? Thanks in advance, Aaron

writing permissions broken

Hi, for some reason I can no longer use any scripts to create zope objects, including the example scripts. Whenever I try to create new objects, incluging using the guest-book or file-library examples zope asks me to login again, and does not accept any logins, including admin. It was all working fine before! Please tell me what went wrong here! Mike.

Python editor in zope?

I'm new to Zope, and am getting tired of using textarea's to edit my Python/[HD]TML code. My space-bar thumb is starting to get an unnatural twitch, from hitting it multiple times at the beginning of every line of code. :-) I've installed TinyMCE and Epoz, and they're both great for documents.. But they're both useless for writing code. Instead of writing my own skin for TinyMCE (and reinventing the wheel), are there any pure JavaScript/CSS code editors that can do search/replace, block indents, and (this would be amazing) Python syntax highlighting?
