Here is the low-down on the Collector: * New items in the collector are immediately marked "under review" * "Under review" issues can't be viewed until they get marked "in work" or some such, allowing submission of security-sensitive bugs without publicizing them to "black hats." * Most issues sit in the "under review" state far longer than the minimum time to triage out the security bugs; this is a lamentable corrollary to DC's short-handedness. Fixing this problem would require adding to the Collector a new state, "submitted", which then becomes the "show no details to black hats" state, and sending off nightly emails of "submitted" bugs to the sucker^H^H^H^H^Hteam member responsible for the Collector. Moving the bug to "under review" should then make it visible to outsiders in all its glory. User with Properties?

Is there an easy way to create users that have properties? EG. if I want to assign an integer value to a user. I tried subclassing the "User" class in a ZClass, but that wouldn't work. I also tried out the Portal Toolkit, but couldn't get it working. Surely someone has been doing something like this? Thanks in advance, Alexander. (Please CC me if you answer)

I want to be able to assign a property sheet of some sort to each user I create, so I can store his/her local preferences on my site. Does anybody have a clue on how to accomplish this? You could also devise a method or a product that (manually) registers the roles a user is entitled to (or already has, depending on the situation), but that could get you turning in circles easily. Bug Collector Query

Hi, I was thinking about putting my 'Changing Roles' problem into the collector as either a bug or a feature request so I went and had a look. It's REALLY hard to try and find out whether anyone else has done this before. Not only is there not any real categorization of bugs/featrues within Zope (everything seems to be 'General') but neither the search or advanced search is documented. Most irritating though was that it doesn't look like you can read problems unless they're been solved, so although there were a couple of bug titles which looked like they could be what I was talking about, they were all ***This item is under review*** so I couldn't check. By all means flame me if I'm being stupid, but otherwise coudl someone help me out? cheers, Chris

'image' directory relocation

i have a server running apache, with zope running on a specified port number. when i first created the documents i wanted to run in zope, i created a directory for images and the like in the zodb. after studying the structure of my site, i've decided i'd rather have the images directory in the server's folder system as opposed to the zodb. moving the images and such is no problem, however, the linkage from the documents to the images is going to be a big one. is there a way to set up something like a symbolic link from the images directory in the zodb to the images directory in the server folder system so i don't have to go in and manually modify the path for each image?

Using a database connection from an external method

I'm still figuring out how to integrate stuff in and out of Zope, and thanks to all the people who gave me the friendly advice that I should stay away from storing blobs in databases (I kind of knew that already, but guess I was to busy worrying about marshalling things in and out of Zope). Anyway, what I am trying to do now is create an external method that will receive the REQUEST object with some fields AND the uploaded file. This external method will insert a record into an SQL table and return a unique ID which I will use for the filename for storing the image in the local filesystem (I am not worried about LOTS of images in a single directory - that can be solved by a more intelligent filesystem [ReiserFS?] or by some clever directory indexing). Assuming I am able to pull this off, it should be quite easy to pull the image back in again using the LocalFS product or my own external method. I guess the external method will be run in the same process and thread as the Zope process itself, so I would really like to get hold of the database connection from my database connection instance in Zope. >From searching the lists, I have learned: * How to get the ZODB instance using self._p_jar; but this is not what I need. I need to get the database object for my MySQL database, not ZODB * How to call ZSQL methods from external methods by simply doing self.someZSQLmethod The last method would probably work, but since adding something to my database table really consists of a database insert, then getting the unique ID returned and using this for stuffing an image into the local filesystem, I would prefer to keep this all in the same External method. So the question then is: How can I obtain the database connection to the external database (the "Z MySQL Database Connection" in my case)? And I do not mean the connection to ZODB.
