Zope does not start completly
by Steffen Lemke 16 Mar '00

16 Mar '00

Hello there I' ve got some difficulties with the very final step of ZOPE-Installation: I made the start-script as root (-> python wo_pcgi.py) and got all the neccessary scripts. Then I chown and chgrp all files to my ZOPE-user and tried to start up the server. Unfortunately the script has got some endless-loop or so and I have to break (Ctrl-C) in order to get my prompt and logout. I do have access to the server via WWW but only until I break the script. Do you know some hint? Thank you very much! Stef

User and UserFolders
by Oliver Andrich 16 Mar '00

16 Mar '00

Hi, I am currently developing a new product for my company using Zope. No I am running into a problem. I like to use the building user management and user auth features, but I also need add to some new properties to a user record. Nothing big just a few properties, that a relevant for some user specific configuration parameters. Can I add new properties to an User object, or do I have to create a new UserFolder and new User object using ZClasses? The later wouldn't be very satisfying. Or can I just create my own type of user and add it to any user folder? Especially the buildin user folder of Zope? Bye, Oliver Andrich

RE: [Zope] creating dictionaries

Try something like: <dtml-call "d.update({key:value})"> - Wade > I want to create a dictionary to eliminate some multiple occurences > of data. > have two <dtml-in> tags and inside I want to add items to the > dictionary: > > <dtml-let d="{}"> > <dtml-in somesql1> > <dtml-in somesql2> > do something like: d[key]=value > </dtml-in> > </dtml-in> > > do something with the resulting dictionary... > </dtml-let> > > so far so good. But how to I add items to the dictionary? > > <dtml-call "d[key]=value"> gives me syntax error.

I cant get to the management screen if I use Apache. I use the correct superuser/password combination which works fine if I go through port 8080. But I get the following: "Zope Error Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. Subclassing ZObjectManager in ZClasses
by Alexandre Ratti 16 Mar '00

16 Mar '00

[Repost - previous message was truncated.] Hello, I've been playing with ZClasses and I ran into an issue with ZObjectManager. Summary: (when creating a folderish ZClass and cascading base classes) if ZObjectManager isn't subclassed at 1st level, objects can be added to the folderish ZClass instances but they don't show in the manage_main object list. [Zope 2.1.4 on Win32, pure ZClasses, no Python around] More details: 1) I first tried this simple setup. It worked fine: ZClass_for_CatalogAware ZClass_for_Renderable ZObjectManager | |_MyTestClass MyTestClass is folderish and works as expected. 2) This setup worked fine too: ZClass_for_CatalogAware ZClass_for_Renderable ZObjectManager | |_MyBaseClass |_MyTestClass1 |_MyTestClass2 I can create a custom base class and use it in several ZClasses. They are folderish and work as expected. 3) Then I tried this setup: ZClass_for_CatalogAware ZClass_for_Renderable | |_MyBaseClass |_ZObjectManager |_MyTestClass Here I first created MyBaseClass, then I subclassed it together with ZObjectManager when creating MyTestClass. MyTestClass looked OK; I created a Content view linked to manage_main; I allowed adding standard object types such as Folder and File. However, when I add objects in an instance of MyTestClass they do not show in the object list (Content view). I *think* they are actually added because I cannot add an additional one with the same ID: I get an "ID already in use" error. When testing further I got the same results when CatalogAware and Renderable were not around. Same results too when subclassing Folder instead. It's not that bad, but I can't create a standard base class, then use it to create a folderish variant. Does anyone understand why? Cheers. Alexandre

Dechiphering ZServer error report
by John Hile 16 Mar '00

16 Mar '00

After running a couple of Zope sites during development for about a month (Zope 2.1.4 installed from source, ZServer on port 8080, ZMySQLDA, PythonMethods, RedHat 6.1), we've seen the server report the following error while running in debug mode (-D) a couple of times: ERROR(200) ZServer uncaptured python exception, closing channel <zhttp_server listening :8080 at 81f5b90> (exceptions.TypeError:unpack non-sequence [usr/local/zope/2-1-4s/ZServer/medusa/asyncore.py|handle_read_event|285] [/usr/local/zope/2-1-4s/ZServer/medusa/asyncore.py|poll|59] [/usr/local/zope/2-1-4s/ZServer/medusa/http_server.py|handle_accept|609]) Is there someone who is familiar with the innards of ZServer who can give me some idea of what is causing these? Thanks.

New LocalFS Release
by Jonothan Farr 16 Mar '00

16 Mar '00

Version 0.1.6 of LocalFS is out. I'm calling this one the Ides of March release. :) New in v0.1.6: - Fixed a bug with filtering in directory browse view. - Fixed bogus text/html content-type on non-HTML files. - Use a more aggressive search to determine whether files are binary or text. This causes directory browsing to take a bit longer but hopefully prevents file corruption problems. - Added a Properties tab which allows specifying custom properties. - Improved the formatting of directory browse view again with tables. - Convert .xml files to XMLDocument objects if the XMLDocument product is installed. - Convert .stx files to StructuredDocument objects if the StructuredDocument product is installed. In 0.1.7 I'm adding fully-customizable mapping of file extensions to content-types, Zope object classes, and icons in the directory browse view. Hopefully that should be out pretty soon as well. --jfarr

<dtml-var> html_quote
by Chien-pin Wang 16 Mar '00

16 Mar '00

Hi, Suppose the following folder/Obj structure: Zope Root - test showImage (DTML Document) - image testImage (image object) - test2 testProgram (DTML Document) showImage contains one line of code: <A HREF="test"><dtml-var "image.testImage"></A> that shows the testImage properly alone. But if I put <dtml-var "test.showImage"> in testProgram (in test2), I got all "<" as "<" and the ugly code like the following was returned intead of the image with link. <A HREF="test.html"><dtml-var "testImg"></A> I have tried the following but none works out: - Use DTML Method instead of DTML Document to hold showImage - Use "/" instead of "." to point to objects - Use single quote or no quote instead of double quotes Please advise the proper way to resolve this annoying issue. Thanks a lot! Chien-pin

ZODBCDA problem partially solved
by Matthew Wilbert 16 Mar '00

16 Mar '00

Within the last half-hour I posted that ZODBCDA connections were not working correctly on my machine, with Zope running as an NT service. I rebooted the computer and now the connection gets made. (I hadn't rebooted since I changed the user the service was supposed to be running as.) So with the Zope service running as me, rather than as the system, it seems fine. And now my problem is exactly the same as the one in the archives last year. This doesn't seem too serious, but if anyone knows why it cares who Zope is running as, I'd still like to know.
