Sure, you just need to trace my previous postings. :) SyBase adapter has two specific problems that I have ran into. They are both 100% reproduceable and both have been reported to the Collector. One of them is now fixed for Zope 2.1.5 (the _validTime thing.) The other one still sits still waiting for Digicool to fix it. If I say the development of the adapter has been slow, it's because it's been slow. If I alone have been able to find (and fix) two problems and one limitation, somehow I don't think they are the only problems and limitation. :) Some of the bugs are later found independently by other people, too. (See below.) Many people also say that they have zero problems with Microsoft Windows. I guess they just have been lucky. Ha ha. But just because one person is lucky, it doesn't mean the rest of the world is equally lucky. :) Let me teach you how to para-phrase your question: "Can you provide more specific details? I am running two separate system with Sybase, and I would like to know more about these problems." Very nice. The following are three articles in chronological order. regards, Hung Jung ============================================================================== "hung jung lu" <hungjungl-(a)hotmail.com> wrote: original article:http://www.egroups.com/group/zope/?start=22495 > >From: Christopher Petrilli <petrilli(a)digicool.com> > > > >Can you please specify what the exact behaviour problem IS? Hello. Many thanks to all for your answers on my recent question about MIMETools. Really, tag is implemented now, and works, but... I need sending mail with multiple file attachement... Combination of several tags working... When I tryed insert tag into tag , Zope said: "Unexpected tag, for tag is only meaningful in the context of the tag. We have loss of this context? Below example of my stupid code. [ --- begin code snippet ---] just example text... [ --- end code snippet ---] Any ideas? Dima.

How do I set properties from DTML? (Repost)
by Joachim Werner 16 Mar '00

16 Mar '00

I'm reposting due to mail problems ... I'm working on a thing I'll probably call "ZBox"; it's a "widget method" that creates HTML-table based boxes on the screen that can be maximized and minimized, like the ones on some of the big web portals. My first simple try with just using Folders, two methods, and properties, worked quite well. I created a method that looks up whether the box is minimized or maximized and renders it respectively. The box itself is a (currently empty) folder that has a property "max" that can be "show" or "hide" (could also be boolean, but I'm thinking of other states like "just show headlines"). The content would then be rendered by other methods that are called in a "content" method by the "box" method. Using those boxes on the site curently looks like this (for a folder "news_box" containing the content): <dtml-with news_box> <dtml-var box> </dtml-with> The problem I could not solve with my very limited Zope knowledge is how to "switch" the boxes from minimized to maximized et vice versa. In other words, I'd need a DTML expression that I can put into a method that is called by a hyperlink on the "minimize/maximize" button to switch the property state and then returns the site again. The two problems are: How can I set a property in DTML (REQUEST.set won't work as far as I can see it)? Namespaces could be quite tricky with that. Where should one put the method to update the property status? The tricky thing is that after the update the site from where the request came has to be re-rendered! I know I could switch to cookies or SQL-based stuff. But that wouldn't make the solution flexible for use with Zope objects. Am I on the right path? If the whole thing doesn't work out that way I could try using my own tree tag version that renders a box instead of the "+"/"-" stuff). Doesn't sound that easy. Thanks a lot for suggestions! Hi, Got this when trying to restart one of our Zope servers today from the control panel. Can anyone explain what's going on? expression evaluateion
by Chien-pin Wang 16 Mar '00

16 Mar '00

Hi, Zope seems to evaluate expressions in an unconventional way. Say I have three properties, a=3, b=5, c=7 set in a Folder. In a DTML Document I tried to say <dtml-var "a/b*c"> and got result 0. The expression was evaluated as a/(b*c) and rounded off. Is not the expression supposed to be evaluated as (a/b)*3? The result is not correct still if we put it this way: <dtml-var "(a/b)*3">. I still got 0 as the result. Did I miss anything fundamentally or is this a, bug? Chien-pin

How does one refer to the root folder?
by Andres Corrada-Emmanuel 16 Mar '00

16 Mar '00

Hi Zopistas, Does one call it "PARENTS[-1]"? I'm trying to get an attribute of the root folder and I'm failing with the syntax- <dtml-with "rootObject=_.getitem('PARENTS[-1]')"> I now that the failure is because the object in the namespace is "PARENTS". So what is the name of the root folder? Andres Corrada

Help decipher a server error
by John Hile 16 Mar '00

16 Mar '00

After running a couple of Zope sites during development for about a month (Zope 2.1.4 installed from source, ZServer on port 8080, ZMySQLDA, PythonMethods, RedHat 6.1), we've seen the server report the following error while running in debug mode (-D) a couple of times: ERROR(200) ZServer uncaptured python exception, closing channel <zhttp_server listening :8080 at 81f5b90> (exceptions.TypeError:unpack non-sequence [usr/local/zope/2-1-4s/ZServer/medusa/asyncore.py|handle_read_event|285] [/usr/local/zope/2-1-4s/ZServer/medusa/asyncore.py|poll|59] [/usr/local/zope/2-1-4s/ZServer/medusa/http_server.py|handle_accepet|609]) Is there someone who is familiar with the innards of ZServer who can give me some idea of what is causing these? Thanks.

newbie - create and call methods ?
by Eric Simoëns 16 Mar '00

16 Mar '00

Hello all, I've been looking in the available zope documentation, listening to this list, looking in the archive of this list (BTW : are you planning to add a keyword search ?)... That is to say that I'm used to searching for the info about open source OS and applications, but I have to admit I'am almost discouraged using Zope as the doc is really scarse compared with what is usually found. So, sorry, I post my newbie questions : I would like to create a method to generate a link (href) with a leading image and text formatting, and so on. I'd like the method to have two arguments : the name of the link and the URL. How do I create a method with arguments ? How do I call a methods with arguments ? Do I mistake attributes (for docs but not for methods) and arguments ? If you have pointers to documents I haven't found that... Thanks in advance, Greetings, Eric PS: Here is what I tryed: --- DTML method "meth_link" <h2> <dtml-var img_puce_paragraph> <a href= "<dtml-var link_url>"> <dtml-var link_name> </a> </h2> --- in an other method <dtml-var name="meth_link" link_name="foo" link_url="la_url"> --- Zope error Invalid attribute name, "link_name", for tag <dtml-var name="meth_link" link_name="foo" link_url="la_url">, on line 6 of txt_user_content

tpc_begin
by Tim Haines 16 Mar '00

16 Mar '00

Hi there, Firstly, I'm not a member of this mailing list, although I have an archive of over 2000 messages from it. Could anyone replying to my message please reply to tim_haines(a)hotmail.com as well as the list? Thanks. I've been developing a site using nt4, Access, and the odbc plugin. Things work great - most of the time. I've noticed that occaisionally I get any error message that mentions tpc_begin. When I do a refresh, the problem is gone, and the site works fine again. I've also noticed that this normally occurs the first time a database query is executed after a reboot. Does anyone know why this would happen, or have any insights at all? I look forward to hearing from you. Tim.
